New York Dog House

This place is sooo good! With all the places to go in NYC I usually never go to the same place twice but this is definitely the exception!

Food here is pretty great. The décor is great, there’s a great patio out back. I had the Cowboy Dog – caramelized onions, bacon and chipotle BBQ sauce on a cheddar bratwurst. I tried the Cajun fries– so good!
Checking in on Unilocal saves you 10%. Definitely want to come back and enjoy some of their great looking drinks.

I am very confused with all the positive reviews. Maybe they’re mostly for the bar? The wings were crispy on the outside but one of the legs was raw near the bone and sauces were not good. Harissa honey was too sweet and the bbq sauce was cold and gross. The mac and cheese was DEFINITELY nothing gourmet or special. tasted like microwave frozen mac and cheese; BUT, the chilli was good. Tasted crock pot homemade.

Nice vibe, cool décor and great food! I really enjoyed this place. I came for Sunday brunch. I started with the avocado toast which was delicious. I had the California dog which was amazing and the meat was delicious! It came with Cajun fries which were good but had a little too much seasoning on them.
They had music playing and the vibe inside was very trendy. They also have a nice little outside space out back. I will definitely be back soon!

About a year back I would come here at least 3x a week, if not more. Due to health concerns I was unable to return but all is well now and I will be coming back yet again. New York Dog House is amazing and the food is flavorful and delicious. The mac n cheese is super creamy and the bite that one gets from the cheese is right on point. You pair that with their ever so yummy Psycho Balls and you and a one-​way ticket to heaven. The crispy rolls are crunchy on the outside and pillowy creamy potato in the inside. I like to dip this in their BBQ sauce. My favorite dog is the classic on a non-​toasted bun… they always toast is but I love my buns soft. lol…with ketchup, mustard and their delicious BBQ Sauce… yes, I love their BBQ sauce. Drinks are awesome. Sweet Baby Izabel will change your life. I’m not going to go into what’s in this drink… u will have to come here for urself and order one… or two… or five I’ve been promising Vlad (owner and is amazing and super nice) a review for the longest but I have been so busy with work that I could not find the time. But here I am sitting at Starbucks, chillin’ with coffee and find myself thinking about this place… and there u have it… Karla

I would eat the veggie dog with Brussel sprouts and drink a chihuahua every day.
No joke.
I love this joint.

I came here on a Saturday afternoon. I made a reservation because it was during brunch and didn’t feel like waiting, but it wasn’t necessary. We were seated right away. The brunch menu has a lot of options and is in a make your own type thing. The prices seem reasonable and they have a bottomless option for an extra $ 27.
We came with my brother in law, who won an eating contest there, so he gets 7 free dogs every week for a year (awesome!). We were able to try different flavors and ended up ordering the Mac and cheese balls, wings and Mac and cheese with psycho balls (meatballs in BBQ sauce). Out of the dogs, our favorites were the veggie dog (falafel type balls with veggies on top) and the pineapple dog. The Mac and cheese balls were yummy, especially with the sauce that comes with it. The Mac and cheese with the psycho balls was the biggest disappointment. The combination didn’t go well together. The BBQ sauce was too sweet for the dish. Also, I tried the «morning screw» which is their version of a screwdriver. It tasted like grapefruit juice with vodka. Yum!
The only thing I didn’t like was the fact there was only one waitress at the time and it got busy while we were there. It slowed our meal down a lot. Other than that, I can’t wait to come back again and try more things.

Unique restaurant with all types of made up hot dogs. All of the ones i’ve had were very good. If you love hot dogs definitely check out this place.

I love the New York Dog House :) They have great sausages and drinks! The food and drinks menus change by the season so there’s always something new and great :)
They have sausages on a bun about $ 8/​$ 9 and you can get a combo with fries or salad for $ 11. They also have meals (sausage not on a bun) as well as chicken sandwiches, mac and cheese and a slew of other items so you don’t need to get a sausage. They also do have a veggie sausage if you don’t eat meat.
Meal:
This time I had the PineApple express which is kielbasa topped with chopped pineapples, and a cilantro sauce. Very yummy! I got the combo with a salad which was spinach leaves, red onion, I believe lemon, oil, pepper /​vinaigrette? I could have done without the salad. I’m not a fan of red onion unless in an israeli or greek salad. I also wasn’t a fan of them just using the straight up whole spinach leaf and not cutting it. I don’t like cutting into my salad.
Drink:
They have great cocktails and everything is made fresh — not using flavorings. They definitely make drinks with substance and they are great. I had a lemonade (non alcoholic) with lavender, fresh muddled mint leaves, honey and lemon. delicious!
Very nice décor, there is also an outdoor space in the back — I will check it out in the summer.
I definitely want to try to some of the appetizers such as the wings, mac attack fritters and psycho balls. Next time :)

I actually went to NYDH during the weekend it opened in 2013 and had a pretty decent meal (fish & chips + I shared a hot dog with a friend). The experience was fine but I ultimately never went back because the menu seemed limited at the time (understandably) and I’m generally not in the mood for hot dogs if I’m having dinner.
I randomly decided to give NYDH a shot for delivery today and I was surprised at the expanded menu and the quality of the food. I ordered A LOT and it was all good:
— The chicken wings I ordered were huge and well seasoned. It came with three sauces but I thought the wings were fine plain.
— The crispy rolls seemed like an odd appetizer and I had to order it. It’s basically seasoned mashed potatoes wrapped in pastry and fried. It was definitely the highlight for me!
— Their classic cheeseburger was pretty legit!
— The Mac & Cheese had a great mix of cheeses that worked well together.
There were a few minor cons that took down a star. Delivery was a little late and the fries were over salted. I would definitely give this place a try again.

Came on Friday night with my friends that are regulars here. I was interested to see what the hype was about. Well folks, this def is not a Greys Papaya. lol… veryyy cute spot w/​brick walls, bar along the one side, and tables (high& low set up).
Met the owner Vlad, while he was talking to my friend’s about the baby shower they plan on throwing there in a few months. Super nice guy! Waiter was friendly as well. We started off w/​the mac& cheese and psycho balls. Mac & cheese was okay (not bad at all but I’ve had better) but the balls were BOMB! So delish. I think the meat was lamb? Served w/​slices of toasted olive bread. The meat was super tender, and the heat kicked in at the end of your bite. Really enjoyed this!
We were there in time for the specials, some type of combo meal for $ 11 I believe? Any hotdog w/​any side.
I decided to go w/​«The Beaner» and parsnip mashed potatoes. Soooo good! I wished there were a little more beans on there but it was still good. I’m more than positive if I asked, they would’ve accommodated me. It was delish! Grilled perfectly and all the toppings went together great. Everyone else’s at my table looked bangin too! The mashed potatoes were pretty good as well. They sent over (on the house) some philo dough pastry triangles w/​some sort of fruit compote inside that were sooooooo good. lol… we ordered the dog bites, which were good but I enjoyed the previous little pastry more.
Overall, I would def recommend coming here! Sometimes the more simple concepts are the best! I def want to come back for brunch because all of the pictures make my mouth water. Solid place w/​good service. Oh, and check in on Unilocal for 10% off your bill. I didn’t give 5 stars because I’m a snob and like to frequent a place for consistency. I’ll def see you guys again!

Here’s a clue: it’s generally not the best idea for you, as the manager, to get on the phone when we’re calling about a delivery order that hasn’t arrived after AN HOUR AND A HALF, and then proceed to YELL at us and HANG UP the phone. F*ck you sir.
As you can see from my original review, I genuinely liked Dog House. We used to come here on the regular before getting super busy with work. However, after tonight’s episode, we will never come back and I will badmouth this place after the way we were treated.
Long story short, my wife called the restaurant as we were trying to figure out where on earth our food was (we’d ordered 2 of the signature dogs and 1 order of the crispy rolls). After being told that it had already been sent out, she tried to figure out how long ago. She then asked why it took an hour and a half (so far) for such a small order, and the manager began to yell at her, saying «it’s a process» and «I don’t appreciate your tone.» After that she tried to cancel the order, and he just went «fine, BYE» without even figuring out which order to cancel. I heard her say «do you even know my name?» but the line was already dead.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is exhibit A on 1) how to lose regular customers forever, and 2) how to destroy your credibility and reputation in the «service» industry.
We will take our hard-​earned dollars elsewhere to establishments with managers that don’t act like jackasses to their customers.

I was expecting the below response after perusing all of the below-​three star reviews and seeing that this guy responds to, belittles, and attacks every reviewer who posts a less than stellar review.
His need to do so speaks for itself. In his mind, he’s always in the right and everyone who criticizes his abhorrent behavior is wrong. That’s all that needs to be said.
As for the refund, you hung up before we got to that part. We had to contact the online ordering service to initiate the refund. But you «didn’t read» that part of the review, remember?

I planned my husbands surprise 30^th birthday party here and I couldn’t have been happier. We don’t live in the area and were only passing through visiting friends, so I made the reservations site-​unseen but was not disappointed. Vlad, the owner, made planning the party and working out all of the details completely stress-​free. We had about 16 people come and they set us up at a big long table in their bar area. We opted to do a family-​style tasting menu and there was SO MUCH FOOD! Our menu looked like this:
Apps: Nachos, Psycho Balls, Crispy Rolls, ‘MAC Attack’ Fritters, and Chicken Wings
Main: [21] Signature Dogs served halved for easy sharing. It comes out to 42 servings where everyone can try each different Signature Dog. Assortment of Sides [Hand-​Cut Fries, Seasoned Brown Rice, Bacon Baked Beans, Seasonal Vegetables]
Dessert: Our house-​made ‘Dog Bites’. Cinnamon and powder sugared Donut holes served with Vanilla Crème dipping sauce.
All of that came out to $ 29 per guest. Not including gratuity, taxes, or drinks. Not being from the city that seemed like a lot to me, but it was totally worth it. The food was incredible as was the service. The staff made sure everyone had what they needed at all times. We all left very happy and very stuffed!
The only negatives I would say were that the table was also near the open kitchen, so it was a little warm. Also, they couldn’t split the bill more than 4 ways so it made figuring out $ 1000 bill a little tricky. I did know that ahead of time though so I just asked the guests to bring cash and we were able to work it out without any major issues!
Overall this is a great place to host a little party or even just have dinner. I highly recommend it!

I’ve eaten here before and had a great experience but I recently had an encounter where I used the restroom before ordering a drink and the bartender was a complete asshole about it. Completely rude and continued to question even after I said I was buying a drink so I left without ordering a thing. From the looks of it by how empty it was Im sure you needed the business. Suggestion don’t be a dick to your costumers.

I’m a server and probably deal with more bull on a daily basis than someone coming in and using the restroom before they order. If this is how your service is handled so be it I wont return but the fact that an employee is responding this way on a customers complaint says a lot about your business.

Had the awesome pleasure of dining at New York Dog House this brisk Monday morning. My cousin and I had originally planned to eat at another nearby restaurant, but upon arriving we realized it was closed for the day. We were deliberating outside for about 15 minutes; freezing our butts off, but unsure of which other Astoria restaurant to pick. Alas, in the midst of what seemed like a breeze coming straight from the Arctic, we stumbled upon New York Dog House. First thing I noticed when I walked in was how comfortably warm it was in the restaurant. The next thing I noticed was how clean, cute, and cozy it felt.
We were greeted by a lovely and friendly waitress, who promptly brought us water and our menus. The restaurant features a «Build Your Own Brunch» (BYOB) special in which you pick an entrée, a side, and a drink for one reasonable price. I opted for the NYDH wrap (tortilla wrap filled with avocado, cheese, and veggie balls), and the Seasonal Veggies (Brussel Sprouts, onions, and mushrooms) as my side. For my drink, I ordered the Autumn Lemonade (lavender essence, mint, and honey).
I can honestly say that the NYDH wrap, although a bit small, was probably the best breakfast wrap I’ve had in the last couple of years. The veggie balls inside the wrap were deliciously crunchy and had the texture of a falafel. The Avocado also tasted very fresh. The side of seasonal veggies came out as a warm salad. I was pleased to taste the savory side dish. It had a sweet/​tangy dressing that paired perfectly with the warm Autumn veggie selection. The Autumn Lemonade was also divine. I’ve never tried a lemonade with lavender essence, and after one sip, I promised myself it wouldn’t be the last.
After eating my dish and feeling satisfied with the food, I expressed to my cousin that I was craving something sweet but I didn’t notice any desserts on the menu. Well, about 5 minutes later a friendly man (who seemed to be the owner of the establishment) came to our table and brought us Dog Bites. This dessert is comprised of round dough balls that are deep fried, dusted in cinnamon sugar, and presented alongside a vanilla custard for dipping. These little fried balls of glory were so delicious that after receiving our first serving on the house, we decided to order another! I would say these bites are comparable to the dough balls I fell in love with at Stanton Social a couple of years ago.
The verdict; So satisfied with our visit, I’ll be back in no time.

Peace, Love and Psycho Balls: NYDH really prepared a fantastic Psycho Ball platter for a fancy catered event I was hosting — and on a tight schedule with a packed house on a Saturday morning. Everyone was talking about the lovely brunch etc.
The staff was very courteous and professional, the food amazing. The owner took care of the order himself a few weeks before, called to follow up on the order a day or two before the event to make sure we had an accurate count of the attendees etc., and event delivered it to the venue. A HOLLAR TO VLAD FOR BEING SO AWESOME AND HELPING OUT ON SUCH A BUSY DAY! Many thanks!

Had the best time at the hot dog house!!! Jen and Juan made us feel special!!! Jen was our bartender and Juan was our server… now you gotta call to see if Jen is bartending!!! But I must warn you her drinks and special shots will leave you on her your ass!!!
We tried the master margarita the JD’sHoney lemonade plus the chocolate labs!!! Lawd! Have mercy!!! Jen will have you submitting on your knees!!! (LOL)
Pedro and Alfred cooked our food! To perfection, chili cheese dog knack wurst and the cowboy with Cajun fries. Yum!
The crispy wings were to die for with 3 different sauces!!!

The hot dogs on the menu sounded a lot better than it looked. The several we ordered failed to deliver whether it was due to lack of toppings or flavor. In fact I would come here for their extensive cocktail selection instead.
California Dog ($ 8.00) — Burnt all over with a small amount of avocado. I was hoping it would be covered with slices of avocado but it was just a spread of guacamole instead. Nothing special. (⁵⁄₁₀)
Philly Cheez Dog ($ 9.00) — This was far from resembling anything like a Philly cheese steak. Instead of thin slices of beef, it was dried cubes of tough meat. Also not much flavor due to lack of onions and mediocre cheese. (⁶⁄₁₀)
They might as well name the place to New York Cocktail House cause I enjoyed the drinks more than the hot dogs. Also the hot dogs are way overpriced for what you get.

My date and I aren’t exactly «hot dog people,» but every now and then we get a hankering for one of New York’s finest dogs. Today was one of those days and it led us right to New York Dog House.
I chose The Beaner. This dog put Mom’s classic beans and franks to shame. It was juicy and had a summery kick to it. The bun was toasted to perfection and the toasted hominy added a dimension of texture.
My accomplice had The Far East Dog, which he described as «far out.» The bitterness of the pickled daikon complimented the sweet chili paste on the brioche bun very nicely, while also adding another layer of texture.
We shared a basket of spicy Cajun fries served with a Harissa mayo. These fries were delicious! If you’re a fan of spicy– these are a must. While my mouth was consumed with the tastiness, my fingers were already reaching for the next fry. They may have been a bit overdressed, but needless to say, we finished the basket and licked our fingers clean.
Basically, try this place for yourself. I can’t wait until the weather is nice and the back patio opens up! Their signature cocktails will be that much more refreshing :)
Three stars because the cocktails were very weak, and hotdogs cost $ 8 and up.

The hot dogs are larger than your normal New York hot dogs and loaded with innovative toppings. They also have different specials depending on the day of the week you are there and happy hour special deals.
The beer selection was decent with some craft, some locals, and other standbys.
We started with some lamb meatballs (Psycho Balls) smothered in a tasty tangy tomato based BBQ sauce. It was served very hot in temperature in a mini cast iron skillet. The crusty bread that accompanied it was good but not enough for the dish.
The Far East dog had a good flavor and was well composed. However, I wasn’t sure if the Num Pang sausage was beef or pork. I had it on a classic bun and liked how the spices work with the pickled radishes topping. Although, it wasn’t that spicy and was more mild tasting.
The Under the Sea dog was lightly battered and fried. This one was spicy with the harissa and fresh jalapeño slices. It was a very good twist to a hot dog and the fish worked well in this combination.
We also shared a side order of Cajun spiced fries that were nice and crispy. I really liked the Harissa mayo dip that it comes with.
The only little thing that was an issue was that there were little flies everywhere. They kept hovering around my face and one even took a nosedive into my beer. I took it out with a knife and the bartender noticed me doing that so he quickly and silently cleaned it up and poured me a new glass and gave me a new knife. Didn’t say anything about it though. My boyfriend who works in restaurants mentioned that the cause is probably a dirty spot/​container or hidden spill that wasn’t cleaned out or missed when cleaning somewhere in the restaurant and is a fairly common pest that is sometimes hard to deal with.
Would not come back until they fix their little infestation problem. Still leery when I pass by the place…
