They never seem to have anything you want. Just do yourself of favor and call in advance and ask if they have the item you’re looking for. Also the bicycle lock I bought from here was crap.

Love the Modells on Steinway Street in Astoria. I almost always find what I’m looking for there. The sales folks are down to earth! They’re straight forward. I was just there this afternoon, found a pair of running/gym shoes I’d been looking for for weeks. Found the Thera Bands I’d been looking for for weeks. I just do not understand the single stars. I’ve always been treated well. I live in Astoria. Great to have such a friendly business here!!!

Friendly and speedy cashier! I didn’t give it 5 stars only because I didn’t get a greeting but it was fully stocked and had everything I needed. Not sure why this gets bad reviews but clearly they have made a change. I have awesome toys and running gear all fairly priced and am happy they had all I needed. Thank you :)

Decent selection of clothing. Some sporting goods. Consistently terrible customer service, however. Every time I come here, everybody(from the manager, to the floor staff, to the cashiers) is just impolite and not tremendously interested in assisting customers. I come only because it’s conveniently located. I wouldn’t recommend if you have other options.

This is the worst Modell’s — if not retail store — I’ve ever been to. I went in to buy some general workout gear and noticed all the prices were blacked out. I could make out the previous number($ 25.99) and thought it probably is on discount so I went to check out, thinking nothing of it. The line spanned well beyond the informal line they established and only 1 register was open. Multiple employees were standing around doing nothing and talking. After I stood in line for 15 minutes, the cashier scans my item and it comes up $ 29.99. I tell her that the price on the item was only $ 25.99 and she says they have a different pricing scheme. If I wasnt desperate, I would have left but i grudgingly paid. It’s not a lot of money but it is the principle of extorting customers. I will never go back there and hope anyone considering this place, takes their business elsewhere.

I must say, I understand why others give one and two stars, but you need to understand the business model of Modell’s Sporting Goods. It sells low end, discontinue sports wear, equipment, shoe wear, etc. Still, I am a fan of saving some money on hoodies, sweats, tee shirts, shorts, etc. Their price point for sports wear is very inexpensive. While the latest arrivals and high end sports goods is not available. Quality is decent with 2nd and 3rd tier sports wear. I like their shoe department. Sneakers on the low end of the scale, but if your looking for basic sneaks for everyday use Modell’s has a good selection for both men and women. They always have a decent sandal selection for summer fun. Service I found to be fair. Some really nice and friendly service staff on the floor, always helpful. Then the cashiers could be hit or miss. Overall, this location of Modell’s is very well stocked. Always a deal for various items. While it might not have the latest or trendiest sports wear or shoe wear around; it has basics at good price points.

I went to this place 2 times already, the first one was yesterday afternoon, I asked the employee to show me, if they had one pair of shoes that i found online, he replied to me with boredom that they didn’t have, so I left. The second one was 6 – 7 months ago, this place was and is unorganised, the employees talked each other, I tried to ask them something and they never replied to me, in general, the costumer service is sucks.

Came here the other day with my 2 daughters(both below 13 yrs old). There were 3 people waiting in line to pay. There were 5 female staff at the register but only 1 was working. The other 4 were gossiping. One girl even said«whore» during the conversation. That’ll be my first and last visit to this store.

They must have had a staff overhaul recently as the guy actually went in the back and checked for my size instead of just standing around like the usual model’s employee. They have wide width Nike’s(4E) which are EXTREMELYRARE. I can only wear generally a 122E or 13 D in New Balance and I have NEVER been able to wear Nike’s at all since I was about 12. So today was truly a miracle day. I got 2 pairs(one running, one walking) for $ 90 bucks which is a steal. Usually styles available in wide width are ugly as hell and look deformed so I was pleasantly surprised at what I was able to get here. They also have a good array of home exercise equipment. Lots of free weights and Kettle Bells.

In Modell’s efforts to maximize their security measures they’ve made it a pain in the ass for their customers to shop. How so? Wanna try on some batting gloves? Sorry, They’re locked up. You have to fetch an employee to unlock the rack so you can check em out. Wanna try on sneakers? You can open the box. But the shoes themselves are attached with a plastic security tie. Go fetch an employee and have them cut the plastic tie(they attach a new one when you’re done btw). Awesome! And sooooo easy to shop! So, I get it, theft is a concern. But I’d be willing to bet the money you’re saving on theft is being canceled by the two extra employees you had to hire to walk the floor with«keys» to all the products? Meanwhile the actual honest customer experience is aggravation/frustration. I am not going back. Gonna check out Sports Authority on Northern Blvd. Maybe I’ll be able to actually take a pair of $ 15 batting gloves off the rack and try them on.

A no-frills place for decently price sports clothes. Something’s always on sale, and the employees aren’t too pushy. I dig.

TJ W. hit the nail right on the head. Don’t come here expecting to buy slick threads; unless you’re a fan of U.S. Polo Association and Champion sweatshirts your grandpa probably wears. You can find your typical sporting goods here and a pretty solid footwear selection. Aside from that, you’re better off going to Sports Authority on Northern.

This place needs to be turned upside down. The shoe department needs to come upstairs and the dreadful clothing selection should be relegated to the basement. Trying to navigate the shoe department is a nightmare. There is approximately 2 feet of space between the display wall and the boxes of shoes that no one wants to buy in the first place. Who orders for this location? Did they really think having 30 boxes of size 11 Adidas Commander basketball shoes was necessary? Do you need racks of poorly made cargo shorts in December? The weights department is also downstairs which defies logic. If you want to purchase a few weights, you need to drag them up a flight of stairs. This location is hopeless.

I walked in here one night and I wasn’t even greeted. I saw a couple of employees just standing there or folding clothes. It seems like they didn’t even acknowledge that they had a customer in the store. Not the best experience i’ve had at Modell’s. The ones in Manhattan are WAYBETTER!!!

There’s always something on sale because there’s always a reason for that particular thing to be on sale: No one wants to walk around in South Pole clothing. No one wears Karl Kani jeans anymore. This place has become more of a clothing & sneaker store than an actual sporting goods store. Especially this particular location. For a «sporting goods» store this place is a joke. Softball bats, basketballs, soccer equipment and whatever else you may need for actual sports is in limited supply. No the most professional modell’s I’ve been to either.
