«Home Comforts Bed & Bath» was established in 1990 with retail stores in New York City, USA and Athens, Greece. We offer high quality name brand linens (including Lenox, Mohawk, Crossill among others) at prices that are hard to beat. With 20 years of experience we are dedicated to help you make the right choices when dressing up your home… the first time around. And as your home evolves over time we hope to be there to help guide you through the changes.

Since its inception, Home Comforts Bed and Bath has always been committed to offering customers quality products at low prices. It is the local destination for all things home goods and décor in Astoria, Queens.

Athena T.

Business Owner

Athena was born on a small idyllic Greek island in the eastern Aegean called Samos. The birthplace of the Goddess Hera, the philosopher Pythagoras and the producer of the world famous sweet muscat wine. Despite the austerity of those times her mom maintained a clean and respectable home based on the traditional home making standards passed down through the generations. After getting married and moving to NYC in 1970 she, along with her husband Thal, raised 3 children and kept her home according to those same old world standards. Since the mid-70’s Thal and Athens they have had a successful 45 career as retail entrepreneurs in Astoria. They founded Homecomforts in the mid 90’s to share their passion and experience of the domestic arts with the people of Astoria and via internet throughout the North America.

If you live in Astoria and need something for your home fast, from small kitchen appliances to sheets to pillows, this is a great resource. Products generally are nowhere near top of the line, but honestly, prices reflect that so I don’t really care.

I love this place. Their store is clean and organized unlike a lot of home stores in the area. Read the signs and pay attention and you’ll be fine with their policies. They’re helpful, nice and usually have the stuff you need. I always see if this store has what I need before I hit up amazon. They also have a ton of assorted jars, including Ball brand and will sell to you by the case!

Cute, modest sized home goods store that consistently has solicitous, friendly service when I go. They have a very impressive selection especially considering the size– and many items you’d see at the more expensive BB&B. I got a large 3 drawer plastic storage unit, a faux leather (very nice looking and comfortable) ottoman with hidden storage, a Martha Stewart style cloth storage drawer and a really deluxe and pretty small pooch bed (for my kitty actually) and 2 storage baskets for about $ 100-​hard to beat that. I’d always much rather shop local and family owned so glad this great little place is around. Be aware they give store credit only and not cash refunds. This has never been an issue for me– I just buy thoughtfully and if I need to return there is inevitably something else I need at some point for the house.

If you need something for your home and don’t have the time to go to BB&B or such, this place will do. Great prices, but they really match the quality of what’s on the shelves. Staff are helpful sometimes. I’ve had to wait at the counter for a while more than once before someone rang me up.

I purchased some sheets and I got the wrong size as they were shelved incorrectly and I didn’t look closely.
I went to exchange (they do not do refunds) and when I went, the woman at the counter berated me for my lack of folding skills in front of about half a dozen people. After insulting me, I said I’d never shop there again and she said she’d give me the exchange.
Lady, I don’t need you to do me any ‘favors’ if the cost is standing around and being insulted. Its your job to manage your inventory; I’m sure you can find someone in your employ to fold your product to your exacting standards.
I got on the train to Century 21 and for $ 15 more, I got 2 sets of higher thread count sheets than my original purchase here.
To paraphrase the Bronx Tale, it cost me $ 39 bucks, but its worth it to never have to deal with these people again.

Shopping here has always been a good experience! Ever since my husband and I moved to Astoria, this has been our go to place for any odds and ends that we need in the apartment. The attendants are so helpful and know their products inside and out. We will continue to go there.

I just moved to Astoria and needed a full length mirror for my apartment (gf request), I originally searched Unilocal for full length mirror and this store popped up, called to see if they had any first in stock before I took the 1 mile drive to pick it up. The woman working was very very helpful and the prices were very cheap per NYC standards, example full length mirror $ 12.99′ Target is double that and 4 + miles away, I also got wash clothes for 99cents each, shower caddy and a kitchen garbage can for $ 10, can’t beat that. I will be shopping here in the future for the odds and ends for my apt. The only thing they didn’t have was a toothbrush holder in stock under $ 10′ she said she will order some. Easy to get too and street parking was ample. Nice store and great customer service!

I just moved here 2 months ago and have found most things that I needed at Home Comforts. It is close-​by and convenient. I saw the return policy says credit only so was a little hesitant, so I measured and came back to make sure everything I got would fit in my apartment. The stuff is good quality. I got the right amount of help, not to clingy, not to evasive. I found some Bamboo items, I would like to see more eco-​freindly items, maybe organic cotton. There is a little of everything which is just right for a neighborhood store — at reasonable price.

I recently made the mistake of purchasing a bed in a bag that only had a duvet cover without a blanket to go in it. (Am I the only person who does stuff like this?) I was bummed, so I walked over this store and found everything I needed. I got a comforter, a really nice tempurpedic pillow and a pitcher for making iced tea.
I think this store is wonderful. They have a great selection of bedding and kitchenware and their prices are great. It’s a family-​owned, local store, so I feel good supporting them. Make sure to go downstairs if you don’t see what you’re looking for on the main floor.

I agree with one of the other reviewers that the shopping experience is awkward. When I went there were about 4 young women working and they we’re like insects to light as I walked around. But I guess you wouldn’t mind this if you need a spatula in an emergency and don’t have the time to just peruse on your own. It’s part of that really misguided trend towards doting on your customers by asking them if they need help every 45 seconds.
They have stuff you’d pay a bit more for at the Container Store or even Amazon so if you need a shower caddy or a basket for magazines you’d be wise to stop in here first. Their selection of towels and sheets is pretty lame but if you’re nearby it’s worth checking out, I wouldn’t come here if I didn’t live so close by though.

Home Comforts is your basic, no-​frills home furnishings shop that is obviously family run and owned. My husband and I decided to check it out as we were preparing our newly shared home for the holidays. They have a decent selection of many home items, mostly for the kitchen and bathroom, and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of their merchandise. They carry a lot of stuff that you’d find at Bed, Bath & Beyond, and sell it at comparable prices. We found some mason jars in different sizes for only $ 2 – 3, so we bought a few for our kitchen, and we also bought a really nice European designed pitcher for about $ 10. A second trip here garnered a full-​length mirror for only $ 10 and a quality shower caddy for $ 25.
They sell everything from shopping carts to Hanes underwear, although the selection is not as extensive as a big box store. The women who work here (a mother and daughter team?) are also nice and helpful, but never pushy. They also offer to hold your items at the register while you shop so you’re not lugging it all over the store (helpful for the bigger items). We’re happy to support a local business like this, and we’re glad that it’s so conveniently located to our apartment so we can run down and see if they have whatever random item we might need.

I really like how attentive the ladies that run this shop are. Unlike other small shop owners they don’t watch you like a hawk giving you the feeling that they’re watching you like a potential shoplifter.
Instead they do watch you enough to intuitively know what you’re looking for. «Are you looking for a hand towel or face towel?»

You certainly can’t complain about the pricing here and the quality of the products they carry is certainly up there. Plus purchasing here gives you the satisfaction you’re helping one of the little guys instead of a big box retailer.

Pretend this is Bed, Bath, and Beyond but take it down a slightly lower notch and you’ll see a store with a lot to offer. Home Comforts may not have a bustling staff or a huge store, but with prices this excellent, a selection so abundant, and impeccable service, what’s the need to complain? They also have a basement where there are more things to choose from and it seems they have a little bit of everything.
Downsides are there are no true returns and only store credit. Its also very difficult to find things calling in as they only have 2 – 3 people working at any given time and occasionally they may not be able to answer the phone right away. Having them search around for any particular item can take a while, but if its a common item (like pillowcase covers) they can probably tell you immediately over the phone. Sometimes on the weekends when its extremely busy, they may have a couple more folks on staff, but I’ve hardly ever seen the place packed. Bottom line is they are a simple business with a lot of choices for all home décor themes.
