I originally made an appointment here because I lived two blocks away and my insurance was accepted. That was almost 4 years ago and I’ve had such a good experience that I’ve been coming back even though I no longer live in Astoria. The first time I came here, it was after not going to the dentist for 2+ years. The last time I went to a dentist(in upstate ny), the dentist had told me that I had a few teeth that felt«soft» and would need to be filled next time, and that I was a toothgrinder and would need a special fitted device to stop me from grinding at night. I put my appt. off because I was in grad school and didn’t have dental insurance. Two years later, I went to Dr. Dreksler and told him what the previous dentist had told me. He took a look and told me that 1– Since I floss regularly, my teeth were pretty clean and I probably could do yearly cleanings instead of every 6 months, 2– There was no evidence of tooth grinding and I wouldn’t need the expensive device, and 3– There was no indication that I had cavities. I appreciated his honestly, since my previous dentist was obviously trying to get extra money out of me. He could have just went ahead and did the extra work, but he didn’t. I have to disagree with the previous poster about Dr. Dreksler’s personality. I’ve found him to be friendly and chatty(and he seems to understand my muffled open-mouthed responses). I also think the staff is great – both front desk and dental assistant. I will definitely continue to go back.
