Beach Bum Tanning Astoria 2

Manager called me and worked with me. I love good customer service. but you can tell the managers who don’t want to work with you to GO TO HELL. But now i can go back to this place n get my tan on. Thanks to whoever called and settled this with me :)

Owner called me, took care of the billing issue, the problems were due to an employee, not the owner’s fault. Completely revising my review because until this billing issue things were pretty great.
Don’t trust these guys, I cancelled my membership on March 17^th 2016 and the guy at the counter said he needed a manager to take care of it. Then he said he’d add it to the log books to cancel it. Turns out, they never cancelled my membership and I got charged for May. I was fine getting charged for April, since I think there’s a 30 day fee, but getting charged twice for something that I cancelled is too much. It’s only like $ 20, but now I have to change my debit card number because I won’t go back into there to do something that should have already been done. This guy is a PoS and shouldn’t be allowed to be in business.

Clean facility and knowledgable staff. Attendant was friendly and recommended which bed would best suit my needs considering it’s been a while since I last tanned.

The location is convenient and the staff is friendly and great! There is barely ever a wait and everything is so clean. I am always happy with my results!

My fave place in NYC. There is NEVER a wait, and the staff is so helpful, friendly, but never «hard-​sell-​y» — you always feel so comfortable and private. The location couldn’t be more convenient, the building itself super clean and fantastically managed. It’s my go-​to spot for sun!

Great space. Clean. Staff is pretty helpful and efficient when it comes to getting you into a booth. Awesome experience overall.

I like this place, I don’t LOVE IT.
I was really scared the first time I went because of all the horror movies I’ve seen and awful things that happened, but the gentleman at the front just told me I wouldn’t have to close the bed all the way. I was still hyperventilating for about 8 minutes, longest 8 minutes of my freaking life.
The place was decently clean, clean towel, the bed was okay clean.
The only thing I didn’t like was how I wasn’t explain enough about tanning or how it work or the packages, the gentleman who assisted me was very monotoned and had no emotion lol made it seemed like he didn’t care, I basically filled papers out and then paid for my 4 tans with one free which totaled to 90 $ with tax and everything.
I just wish they would have told me about student discounts and all these cool sales and stuff. I feel like I had payed a little to much but what can we do. I like the concept of free tan Sunday’s with purchase of lotion and only if you have existing package.
I just wish the people working there would act like they cared and were more informative it would make me feel a lot more safe and happy to actually be a customer.
–I feel like this place deserves 3 stars it wasn’t a horrible experience it was decent, I guess they just have a lot of space for improvement.

Beach Bum is pretty much the only tanning place in Astoria, which is such a shame because this place is awful. The staff did not address my questions or give me appropriate answers. I was also told no matter what bed I go in, I will not get ANY color my first time tanning there. I’ve been tanning at various locations and this was never the case. The staff were rude and inconsiderate. This place is also overpriced.

I’ve been a member of beach bum for years and I especially like this location! :) Rafael is always helpful, I love him! They often offer spring discounts, free Sunday tans, and student discounts.
Cons. Couple girls who work there, need to loose the attitude though. Also, the website and Google too says they’re open until midnight but sometimes they close earlier.

This place is disgusting. They overcharge enough as it is. But I come in to use my package that I paid over 100 dollars for and they are telling me I have a balance of .71c from 2010 because the front desk person charged me wrong. The fact that beach bum needs to collect 71 cents from people who buy packages just shows how ridiculous this place is.

I’m not sure why this place has such bad reviews. I have been 4 times so far, each time with a different person at the desk & I have never been given an attitude or anything close to it. When I first started coming, it was my first time using a salon & the girl was very patient in explaining what the best option would be for me & she never pushed me to upgrade or anything of the sort. I am pleased so far.

holy &*%^^. how is this place still open? they gave me the worst spray tan of my life. i am orange, blotchy and my face looks like the tan mom. i specifically said THE LIGHTEST COLOR POSSIBLE because I am super pale, and now I am orange and I look like I have stripes. UGH
DO NOT GET A SPRAY TAN HERE. This place should be closed up. Beach Bum corporate: please fire your air brush girl!!!

I made an appointment to have an airbrush tan done before my cousin’s wedding, but when I arrived they had no record of it. The attendant found me a last minute appointment… in Forest Hills, which I had to take.

I agree with all of these other reviews– the staff is disengaged and not helpful.
Every time I come to tan, the staff is hanging out with a friend & talking about what they are going to have to eat or where they need to go after work. When you walk in or ask a question, it’s as if you are an interruption to their life… oh I’m sorry, I thought you were actually an employee that is supposed to provide a service that I pay for?!
I also usually have to wait an average of 10 minutes on top of the normal waiting time of someone in a bed because the room is empty but it has simply «slipped their mind» to clean the bed for me. I always have to remind them (even though I’m THE ONLY person waiting in the waiting room-you’d think it’d cross their mind after a few minutes?). It’s ridiculous.
The prices, hours, & location however, are the reason I keep coming back – it’s the best in the area.
Wish I could have written a nicer review because their area manager is one of the best I’ve seen/​met.

Clean environment. Great place as long as the machines work. It would be great if they had a few more of the s class machine. Having only one prolongs the wait!

I’ve been a Beach Bum customer for the past ten years, going to locations on Long Island and in the city. I was excited to see that there were locations near my new place in Astoria.
Unfortunately, every single time I’ve been to this location I’ve been given a problem, a bad attitude, and have experienced unprofessional behavior. The problems varied from being unable to «find» my sessions, being unable to take a coupon because it wasn’t in the system (but had somehow been mailed to my house), and not allowing me in at 11:30, when they close at 12.
I hate that this place has the same name as some other wonderful establishments, because it is tainting the reputation of other Beach Bums.

It doesn’t take a lot to have a service like this run well, unfortunately the customer service is awful. Rude and don’t make eye contact, almost like you are bothering them by coming in.
With a nice and friendly staff this place could be really nice but I’ve been going for year because there’s no other place and it’s been terrible. They can’t be happy either!

The customer service here sucks. Or maybe it’s just one girl. I walked in two weeks prior and scheduled an Airbrush tan for a Saturday. She said she could arrange to work on Saturday to do my tan. I called the Wednesday before my appointment to confirm and the same girl (Victoria) told me I wasn’t on the schedule and nobody would be there to do it. She told me she would be there until 4pm Sunday, so I rescheduled for 2pm on Sunday. Friday I got a call informing me she was unavailable Sunday! The party I’m attending is Monday, so there were no other options. I asked to speak to a manager, who wasn’t available of course.
I then called the other location down Steinway. I asked about the booth, then asked if the manager was the same for both locations. He said yes, and told me HE was the manager. I explained the situation and he told me that Victoria doesn’t usually work weekends, but she comes in to do the airbrushing for clients. He didn’t really care.
My conclusion, Victoria wasn’t honest with me in the first place about her schedule. When her personal life interfered with my appointment she just cancelled.
