While on a lunch break, a co worker of mine said since we are in Astoria, he had a great to get a quick bite to eat. Small place with delicious food. I was so torn between a sandwich(I hear it’s great) or a salad with lemon chicken. I tried to be healthy so I went with the chicken. So delicious and flavorful. For $ 9 I was very satisfied. They had a few tables so we sat down to eat. Everything looked fresh and smelled so good. I definitely need to try their sandwich. Very friendly and I def will be back.

Disappointed. Spent a lot of money on their catering only to recieve trays of burnt food. They should just stick to making sandwiches.

An NYC deli at its very best! Lots of variety with tons of heroes and Classic Italian dishes. Fast service, fresh ingredients, and huge portions — for less than $ 10 a person you can’t ask for much more. I ordered the homicide and it was the perfect cold sandwich, everything I wanted and more. Would recommend!

Seriously an Astoria gem! I have been searching for a decent deli ever since moving out here from Long Island which is littered with fantastic italian delis. I got what I wanted. This place makes really excellent sandwiches at reasonable prices. Plus they have a great hot food selection. I got the Fuggetaboutit sandwich and the balance between flavors was perfect, the bread was delicious, had a slightly crusty exterior and fluffy bread inside. The sandwich was perfect and I will be back, a lot!

They’re a fucking institution. That shit is clear from the moment you walk in the door. The room commands the neighborhood’s respect. They are mathematicians of sandwichry. They know more about what you want than you even do. And the pesto will make you cry. Sometimes I just go in and say, «hangover.» Sandwich + Gatorade is roughly $ 10. It will feed you for days. The sexual innuendos are free. Tasteful, respectful… they’re allowed. All day.

Awesome Heros! $ 8 each no matter what you get on them! I had a massive italian hero and they suggested adding eggplant which I never had on an italian but it was delicious! Also added prosciutto free of charge so of course I tipped graciously. My husband had the Sammy the bull which was equally fresh and delicious! Perfect place to grab and go either for the beach, a picnic or take home! My new favorite sandwich shop! Loved!

This is the best sandwich place! We stopped in here on the way to Laguardia. We ate half our sandwich and took the rest to go. But before we left, we got another sandwich each for the next day. We knew we wouldn’t get another chance for this tasty treat!

All I can say is, this is my favorite place on earth. John and Benny are amazing people and the sandwiches are the best I have had in my entire life. I suggest any chicken cutlet based sandwich, the 718, germ or the stone zone!

The«deli» must be short for«delicious». I tried the«718» sandwich due to the reviews on Unilocal, and it did not disappoint. The prices are so reasonable and you get a lot in your sandwich! I came here with a coworker who raved about their«The Cindy». She also got their cucumber salad which looked(and smelled) delicious. I don’t have any pictures because i had a quick lunch break, but this is a place I would definitely recommend to friends. I need to try their hot platters some time! Parking can be difficult and calling in during lunch may be hard to get through too, but if you go in, they don’t take long! I definitely need to come back soon!

Very disappointed with the meatballs, tasted like ground beef in a ball form, no seasoning and totally overcooked, in tomato soup for sauce, unacceptable for a place that prides itself on hot sandwiches.

One of the GREATESTPLACESINNYC! It is right next to my apartment and if I could I would eat every day from these guys! They are friendly and they have the best food! I was passing every day and never tried their food! Thank God I tried it! They don’t serve the same food every day and whenever I go there I want to try everything! Very cheap prices for GREAT food! I would suggest that everyone must try this place!

Such awesome sandwiches. Both hot and cold sandwiches are offered but I always go hot. 718 is where it’s at. Hot italian plates are great too. Extremely reasonable prices. Best kept secret are there breakfast sandwiches. Guys who work they are old school. It’s an amazing neighborhood gem. This is the true & original Astoria. Place has been family run for 50 years. Been going since I was 5 years old. I’m 28 now and quality has remained consistent.

I’ve lived in this neighborhood for four years. Do you understand how tragic it is that I went for the first time two days ago? I don’t think you understand what’s going on at this place. First off, their screen door reminds me of the south more than anything I’ve ever seen, but that’s neither here nor there. I’ve only been once, but their are two big draws to this place. 1) sandwiches 2) lunch specials. I mean, as a member of the hispanic dining community, that’s what we call the big steam trays on display. But yeah, you can point to the rice and noodles and meatballs and chicken(limone? piccata?) and ask for a few options on one plate. Want a small plate? 6. Want a large plate? 8. Want some bread? Sure! Want it buttered? Why not. Of course, that’s me observing others, because I ordered a hero and split it with a friend. Chicken cutlets are crispy outside, juicy inside. How many people do cutlets like that? Half the time you get an inedible, reheated, rubber cutlet, and the rest of the time you get a dried out, almost all breading, super thin cutlet. These guys do it right. Quality ingredients, masterful touches, quality control all around. 7.50 for chicken cutlet, fried eggplant, mozarella, red onion on a hero. Amazing. Then I couldn’t resist a meatball. So I ask, how much for two meatballs? He says…2 bucks. Who’s going to turn down a meatball for a dollar? WHO? He offers me bread, I say yes. No extra charge.(I took the bread home, made a sandwich later.) Honestly, this is a great place. Tables to sit, not the friendliest, smiliest guys working there, but it feels like they enjoy making the food and they’re very polite and efficient, so that’s good service no matter HOWYOUSLICEIT.

Best deli I’ve been to, hands down! The people there, johnny, andrew, and Benny, are fast and friendly when it comes to preparing your orders. And when you go often enough, they will know you by name :) The food quality? Delicious and wide variety every day. Portions? Super worth for what they charge you(I would split my food into 2 meals sometimes). They have many speciality sandwich posted on the wall to try! Needless to say, I would definitely drive to astoria just to visit these guys when I get the chance on the weekends!

Wow. A&F is fantastic. There are not many places in NYC that are well-priced, high-quality, and friendly — but this place hits all three. I stumbled across it one day, its not much from the outside, but on the inside lies delicious food! My personal favorite is the«718»(chicken cutlet, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, ranch, and hot sauce on a sub roll) it came to $ 7.50. It was big, did not skip on any ingredients, it was fresh, and delicious. The people behind the counter were friendly and as we left one of the owners(who was talking to another guest at a table) looked up and said«have a nice day, thank you for coming in» — which is always nice to feel welcomed in a business(although, that sounds like a joke, sometimes you can enter a business/restaurant and definitely feel ‘un-welcomed’ — this is not that kind of place.) A&F is about one thing — good food, especially the hot & cold sub’s(hero’s) — and it’s at that thing, they succeed. (Quick Note: They are CA$H ONLY — there is an ATM inside.)

Awesome sandwiches. I get the«718» — chicken cutlet, melted mozzarella, bacon, lettuce, ranch dressing and hot sauce. It is amazing. When you come in here it is very unassuming and a little outdated in décor, then you notice the crowd of police officers, firemen, con ed workers and other tradesman ordering food there and you ask yourself«what is going on here? This place must be good.» Well it’s better than good. Trust me. The staff is friendly and appear to know most of their customers by name, greeting them on the way in and out. They can make any sandwich you can think of and have names for each sandwich they make. It’s almost impossible to try them all. Great place. Get there if you are in Astoria at some point.

At A&F you can’t go wrong with any selection. Hero, hot food plate, salad of any kind are made fresh daily. Tuesday is meatloaf. We travel from all over the city on tues to get a few slices no matter where we are. This place has got it all. Great counter service, a selection of sandwiches(718, The Germ, Chatham 2 are the best out there) and they will make you anything you desire. There’s a sink so you can scrub your hands before you dive in. Nothing special about the décor, it’s usually hot with minimum AC on, but that means nothing when you start biting if you eat in.
