Admiral Lock&Key is one of the few mom&pop shops left in Astoria. My mom and dad started this business in 1952. I wasn’t even born then. We lived in Astoria for 16 years. I saw how hard my parents worked. My mom ran the shop while my dad did the outside work. As the business grew, they were able to hire more locksmiths. In 1986, I started working in the store. Between 2007 and 2010, Ben and Esther passed away. I’ve been able to keep the shop open and running with expert locksmiths working for me. Now children of the customers from way back are coming into the store and calling us to do work in their residences and businesses. They remember coming into the store with their parents. The store pretty much looks the same. We pride ourselves on our honesty and integrity and we firmly believe that you’ll see the difference when you choose our company. We have the skills and experience. You’ve tried the rest, now try the best.

Old school lock smith been there done it all, I’m sure. They have hard to find blanks for roll down gates and other sometimes difficult to find key blanks, or can order hard to find blanks. Most keys cut here have been fine. A few Medico keys I’ve had to return to have redone cause the owner wasn’t careful and didn’t notice one of the shoulders on a key had been ground down and in another instance didn’t do it right. They can sometimes be a little gruff or act like a mis-​cut key was the customer’s mistake. Generally they do a fine job.

Was just locked out of my own apartment today. Called them to help me open my door and they said they would be here in half an hour. Since I had an important dinner to attend to later, I also had my brother come all the way from Jersey with a spare key in case the locksmith could not open the door. After an hour and fifteen minutes, my brother who came ALL THE WAY FROM JERSEY, arrived with the spare and opened the door. Locksmith gets here 5 minutes after my brother comes and demands that I pay $ 95 for the service. Since he did drive here, I thought I would just have to pay him a tip of around $ 20. He then kept arguing that I should pay him a lot more. In the end I paid him the $ 20 and he left unhappily. Most unpleasant experience ever.
TL:DR Go with another locksmith.

It’s a Friday night at 7:30pm and I’ve been having an issue with a lock for over an hour now. This place popped on Google as a nearby Astoria locksmith with 24 hour service… well, that’s a lie because I’ve called 3 times now and been greeted with eternal ringing. No one has picked up. No words for how disappointed I am right now.
I’m giving them 2 stars because I did receive good service because they copied my new apartment keys and the woman who helped me was super sweet.
But 24 hours they are not.

Almost two weeks ago, I had one of the worst mornings of my life, which was resolved by Admiral Lock and Key Company. I woke up on Friday morning only to be locked inside of my apartment. I had heard of such stories before, but I always thought that it was a myth. After panicking and trying everything imaginable, I climbed out of my window to try unlocking my door from the outside, using a screwdriver, using fluid, getting my super; etc… After climbing back inside via my window, I was able to call the nearest locksmith which happened to be this business.
They responded calmly despite my panicked tone and assured me that this situation was common and it was a good thing that I didn’t call the fire department, which is what most panicked residents do. Within twenty minutes, my locksmith was there and began asking me a couple of questions before drilling through my door and replacing everything. It turned out that my building had purchased a cylinder that wasn’t the appropriate size for my frame, which would work temporarily but eventually, it wouldn’t align properly. Hence, my situation.
After asking a few more questions, the job was done. They gave me a new knob, lock; etc…, and I was ready to get on with my day. As to be expected, it was a bit costly; however, my building reimbursed me. If I ever have a similar situation again, I will be sure to call them. Lets hope not though…

Old school mom and pop locksmith in Astoria. Are there any better kind of locksmiths?
I’ve been here multiple times to have extra keys made, and always done professionally, with no problems. I think that the current owner was featured as one of the «Astoria Characters» on Huffington Post, which makes me love this place even more.
Never had a bad experience — they seem to take their work seriously — and definitely recommended!

Read this, and read it well. I am not joking or exaggerating. This is only my 2nd five star rating since I have been on Unilocal.
The key that was made at this place actually works better than the original car key that I have. Got it? Read the above sentence again, and let it sink in. *Reads again*
Now go make a copy of that key you have been wanting to make. Cheap prices too.
The gentleman behind the register was also very friendly and supportive throughout the whole process. Who the hell would have known that getting a copy of a key can come with such a friendly service?

I needed 30 keys made. Took the 2 people ~10 mins. I was very impressed. Coming from dallas i never see these mom/​pop type of shops for keysmiths. Mich better than the bog box stores.
The lady was very friendly and seemed very knowledgable about the craft. They said i can come back tomorrow if i have any issues.

Great service for lock installation. Roz suggested various lock options over the phone, then we set up a time for lock installation, and the locksmith arrived ready to put in a new lock and with all of the tools needed to deal with potential issues with the door frame. I highly recommend Admiral Lock & Key.

I miss businesses like this. I’m not even old enough to remember businesses like this.
I needed a copy of my Honda motorcycle key and all the big name places (Home Depot mainly) didn’t carry it. How frustrating! You’d think that large retailers would be your go-​to source for everything, but in actuality, the more variety of product they offer, the more limited they are for a specific product.
This family owned lock and key shop has pretty much every key you could ask for. The woman working clearly knows her stuff and can easily look at a key and pick the right blank off her wall of hundreds of different kinds. At Home Depot, the newb had to test the key in about 40 different locks to see where it fit. That’s fine and all, but it’s nice when you go to a business that is clearly proficient in what they do.
The actual key copying took no time at all, and the copies worked perfectly on my motorcycle. However, if ever they make a copy that doesn’t work, they are more than happy to fix it until it does. It’s one of those things they can’t be sure works until you try it; it’s just the nature of the business.
I can’t attest to their other services, but they do offer locksmithing and whatnot. I also have no idea what the normal charge is for that type of service, but if they approach that kind of job with the same expertise and professionalism they do for their key copying, then I’d be happy to suggest them.

Lucky me, I got locked out of my room in my apartment on Christmas Eve. To make it even better, we had no extra keys and neither did our building super. Tsk tsk.
Thanks to google, I found this place, called them up and in 20 minutes a guy came, opened my door faster than a blink of an eye. It took me longer to look for a place than for him to open the door.
So this mishap cost me $ 75 plus tax and tip. So it was more or less $ 85. Not sure if it was overpriced or cheap, just glad I got in!

Used Admiral when I was unable to open up a Kryptonite U-​lock bike lock. Very easy, timely company to work with: called in the morning & left message, they called back & said they could send someone that afternoon. Gentleman showed up, tried to unlock it, wasn’t able to (lock was defective), used some fancy tool to just cut through the metal u-​lock portion. Best part: I was able to pay him using my credit card since he had some fancy «Pay-​Me» app on his cell phone… even got my receipt emailed to me! Quick. Fast. Effective. I’d definitely use these guys again. (FYI: the entire process probably took about a half our, charge was $ 95 before tax).
