St Moritz Lodge & Condominiums

We stayed at this lodge this past weekend and would definitely recommend it to others. This place was affordable, clean, and the staff were very friendly. The pictures online are accurate, what you see online is what you get. Tom welcomed us to the lodge, he helped orient us to the town, recommended places to eat, and sights to see, he gave us directions when needed… he was extremely helpful. Jay was a life saver, we left our cell phone at the Belly Up Aspen… Once we got home (4 hours away) we called the lodge to ask for help. Jay coordinated a pick up time and sent us the cell phone the next day. Jay went above and beyond his job description to continue great customer service.

If you’re coming to Aspen for a short ski or exploration trip I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s situated right at the base of Aspen Mountain, Ajax as locals call it, you can walk 2 or 3 blocks and you’re there. For those who prefer ski Snowmass or Highlands there’s a free ski shuttle within short walking from the lodge which is great!
I travelled solo to Aspen for a three day ski trip and couldn’t imagine a better place to stay and meet like-​minded skiers/​travelers. Since I’ve spent most of my time up in the mountains or exploring the town attraction I’ve chosen to stay in the dorm room. It was small but cozy, there’s great comfortable bed, heater and clean spacious women’s bathroom down the hall. They serve breakfast every morning which includes hot coffee/​tea, pastry, fresh fruits, bagels and hard boiled eggs. My favorite part was their lounge area with a fireplace, couches and chairs where you can enjoy couple glasses of wine and popcorn after long day at the slopes. If you crave a spa-​like experience you should jump in their hot outdoor pool you muscles will thank you later:)
If you’re looking for a local tips where to go and what to see, helpful people at the front desk are the one I’m so thankful for.

Great place that’s close to everything in Aspen. It’s an older property but clean with an attentive staff and nice amenities (hot tub/​pool, free breakfast, wine in the afternoon.) We’ve stayed here several times. Price is great.

The staff was super helpful and kind. The bed was extremely comfortable, with a quaint, rustic quiet room and even temperature all night. One of the best nights sleep I’ve had in a long time. Great shower. Breakfast was great — something for everyone. Within walking distance to everything, but a couple blocks off Main Street so it’s quieter. Free parking. It needs updating, but I’d rather pay lower rates and have it stay the way it is. Great for people playing hockey in the area also — it’s a block from the rink!

You get what you pay for and in Aspen, you will find a lot of people doing as little as possible for a lot of money so here, don’t be surprised to be absolutely disgusted by the cheap dorm rooms. The St. Moritz is doing as little as possible for as little as possible. The dorm rooms are on the top floor so in June it was wretchedly HOT! with only a loud fan for marginal relief. The noise from the constant 24hr on-​going party at the pool is amplified on the pool side. Sharing a room with someone you don’t know is a crap shoot. There is no place to lock your stuff so hope you can trust another person who could not afford Aspen hotel rooms. My roommate farted all night, turned the light on at 3am to pack all morning until she left after sunrise. So after a night of no sleep I tried to sleep in on a Sunday morning but housekeeping barged in at 9am! Even though I was naked and in bed and loudly protesting they actually asked me if they could change the other bed! Getouttahere! Seriously bad hospitality, as if I only deserve half the dignity and respect for half a room. The sheets they wanted to change are dirty and crusty and smell moldy, like the towels. How they can use these sheets and towels and let things mold in such a dry climate is unacceptable. The cheap bulk wine happy hour and koolaid cookie offerings do not make up for the gross, uncomfortable rooms and grumpy staff. I know it is expensive in Aspen and this is the cheapest option but we all deserve better! Life is too short to subject yourself to this Hellhole!

I didnt give this hotel 5 stars because of the noise. I was in the first floor room and I could hear everything upstairs. But I would stay there again but would book only upstairs. The room is very nice and clean and the bed is comfortable. They have an awesome heated outdoor pool. And everything is within walking distance. I had a great trip and management was very friendly.

I stayed at this hotel in July, 2014, and I would not recommend it. The staff was very friendly, the front of the building was attractive, and there was a free wine happy hour. Those were the good points. However, there were several negatives: My room had a mouse, a cricket, and some kind of flying bug. There was no AC, and the windows had no screens. This means you had to open the windows and let bugs in to keep cool. The carpet looked like it was about 20 years old, and the décor was about 40 years old. There was a long hair in the shower, and next to the sink. The toilet was very difficult to flush, and almost didn’t work. The temperature control in the shower was hard to use: it was either way too cold, or way too hot. The interior hallway between the rooms was so dark that you couldn’t see anything until you managed to stumble across the light switch (even during the middle of the day.) The towels were very old. Anyway, I think this could be a nice place if they did some major upgrades, because the staff is good. However, I would stay away for now.

My friends and I stayed in a regular room — not the dorm. We’d just come back from 4 days backpacking, and I was thrilled to see complimentary cookies and fruit punch in the lobby, and also wine that you could take by the pool.
Our room was very clean and cute (nothing like those typical frumpy hotel blankets), and close to the center of Aspen. The pool was heated — I didn’t try it, but it was pretty warm, which is nice for cool summer nights.
I guess prices are really high in Aspen, but for 3 of us we got a really good deal. I would definitely come back here again. All the staff we talked to were really helpful and friendly.

I’m so surprised by some of these reviews! We stayed at St Moritz in the most cheap accommodation option for the Fourth of July (visiting from Denver) and everything was impeccable. The staff was helpful, funny, gave great tips about our hikes, the rooms were pristine, room service/​cleaning spot on. Ample towels, clean bedding. It’s in a beautiful, quiet location that’s a straight shot, four block walk into the shops and restaurants. The pool is beautiful, heated, and surrounding by flowers, sun, and shade all at once. Compared to every single other place to stay in aspen its a complete steal! They serve complimentary wine all afternoon on top of the breakfast. I will tell all of my friends to check out this gem!

This is such an affordable gem of a place! It was far better than I expected, I would love to go back and stay here. The staff was friendly, it was clean and a beautiful location, while being within walking distance to everything. Thank you St Moritz for being a lovely and affordable place for all those out there who don’t have deep pockets!

Clean and quaint. Great price. Hiking trail across the street and about 5 block walk to downtown. Friendly service.

My two friends and I rented a 1-​bedroom condo at St. Moritz this past weekend. It was reasonably priced ($ 230/​nt. including tax) for being conveniently located in downtown Aspen.
Pros:
1) Complimentary continental breakfast served in the morning. Coffee, OJ, cereal, yogurt, fruit and hard boiled eggs!
2) Working gas fireplace in the condo.
3) Porch area outside our sliding glass door where we set up a BBQ one night.
4) Free parking,
5) Full kitchen in the condo.
Cons:
1) The 3^rd person slept on the pullout couch which was in poor shape and not comfortable to sleep on.
2) There were giant ants in our bathroom.
3) Hot tub (aka the pool) was not that hot and officially closes at 8:00 p.m., though the staff turns a blind eye if you pull back a corner of the pool cover to soak after hours.
All in all, I would give St. Moritz Lodge a solid four star rating. The front desk staff were very friendly and we were happy with our stay… err, except for the 3^rd person who had to sleep on the pullout couch ;)
I would definitely recommend St. Moritiz Lodge for those looking for affordable places near Aspen/​Snowmass!

My friend and I headed into Aspen for the X-​Games. I found out about St. Moritz Lodge online. We stayed in a small room with two double beds and a shared bathroom down the hall. The room was exceptionally clean and the shared bathroom very clean. The only slight downside was there was only one shower, but I only had to wait once.
They have a good, free breakfast in the morning, and the location is excellent. It’s only a few blocks walk to anything in Aspen (bars, restaurants) and a block and a half to the bus stop to Buttermilk. The staff is exceptionally friendly — I called once or twice before my stay and they answered all my questions. I got a flat tire and didn’t make it in Thursday night as planned, and Tom from the front desk emailed me to check on us. We also had a great time at their happy hour… everyone is very friendly. Would highly recommend to anyone that is trying to stay right in Aspen on a budget.

Meh. Not great, but given the price, it is suitable. I’m here only for two nights and thankfully, the room was all mine! Paid for the shared room, but because it’s off season, no one else is here. Score! But it was a damn popsicle. The heat didn’t work and the room was 52 degrees (said the temp. gauge). I asked the front desk guy how to fix it and he said he would switch boilers and get it warmed up. Great. I was heading out, and just trusted it would be fixed. Nope. When I came back the front desk was boarded up (closed) and my room? Still freezing. At this time is was 50 degrees. The guy just left and the solution was, oh well, can’t fix it. C’mon. I know this isn’t the Hilton, but, really? Unacceptable.
There is no double lock on the door, which, in a hostel, I would like. There is a remnant of a deadbolt, but it’s broken. No «lock» part, so it’s useless.
Otherwise:
— awesome location
— clean bathrooms (I like that there are separate womens and mens restrooms)
— refrigerator in the rooms. Nice for travelers
— free wifi
— free long distance U.S. calls
— only a few parking spots, but for me it wasn’t a problem (it’s off season)
— no idea about breakfast (it was never offered/​mentioned)

Ok, I’m typically a little spoiled when I stay at hotels. However, lately I’ve been on a budget and squeezing in my stomach to tighten my belt.
After staying at The Grand Vista in Grand Junction, CO, where I stayed at twice the usual rate, UGH!
I decided I would stay in Aspen after my daughters recital and avoid the 2 hour drive back down the mountains. Hotels are typically expensive in aspen, even during the off season so I was worried I’d burn my spending money on a half ass room.
After searching the web and reading reviews I choose to chance my stay at a hotel/​hostel named St. Mortiz. I called and spoke to the coolest sounding gal with a great attitude. She gave me the run down of the place and cost and didn’t sound offended when I said, «okay, thanks, I’m still checking around and I’ll call back».
…And I did call back. Heck the price was ½ of the next lowest, it was only a few extra blocks from the bars and everyone seemed dry or bored.
I called back and booked the room, not a hostel type, a regular room.
I arrived a little early to Ms nice gal as the host. Still just as cool and friendly in person as over the phone. ((sorry I don’t remember your name. I’m terrible with names))
So checking in was quick and easy, the room warm and clean with a great shower, the ground nice and the building, though older, still well kept. Skiers, hikers, rafters, adventures dream on a low budget.
Gal was also kind enough to get me a map and mark where the local watering holes were and find out who was open. Hence the review below for Red Onion… it was open.

I stayed here for 2 nights (room with two queen beds). It’s billed as a suite because of the kitchenette (small sink and 2 electric plates) however I’m calling that a stretch.
Joel, is the manager and proprietor (?). He is a very nice and helpful gentleman. Breakfast is downstairs and nothing special. I would expect more for establishment in Aspen (and more because of the price per night).
Our room had dirt/​smudge/​bootprint on the sheet and a hole near the top. Not worth complaining about to Joel, but fits in with the rest of the place. An ok place to crash but hardly a «get away». Oh and the hot tub (100f pool) closes at 8p, WTF.

Awesome people, awesome pool and steam room and great beds. Tom at the front desk is really friendly and helpful. The breakfast is pretty good and has fresh fruit. Also, Tom breaks out the wine around 4pm every day.

I thought it would be an interesting experience doing the dormitory/​hostel experience. Unfortunately, I ended up with a random creepy roommate who loved to stalk my other friends (like a pedophile) staying in this lodge.
The guy at the reception desk assured me that my roommate was not going to «bite.» I have to say that he was really creepy older person. He was probably the worst roommate you could have with a CPAP machine (a breathing apparatus that sounds like darth vader), obnoxious grunting noises throughout, loved to leave the window open, very inconsiderate about my space, and would lay stake to the communal bathroom and kitchen by stalking the people in it because it was obvious he didn’t have any friends.
To add injury to insult, I wrote an email to management about this situation but they never bothered to respond. I would not want someone to room with this person and they obviously don’t care about what I think. I’d rather pay more for a room elsewhere. This stay essentially ruined my first and last hostel/​dormitory experience.

This is a reasonably clean and totally safe hostel. No frills whatsoever, but the price can’t be beat. I stayed in one of their shared rooms with 5 beds for $ 42/​night in 2011. There is no confusing this place with even a 1* hotel, but if you’re in town looking for a cheap place that’s close to downtown Aspen, you can’t beat this place.
I wish they had more than 1 shower on the floor (though I rarely had to wait), I wish that the toilet stalls were a bit wider, I wish the mattresses were slightly less musty. But for ¹⁄₇^th the price of a mid-​ranged hotel, you get what you can take.

This hotel is solid, a great value for Aspen. It is clean and quiet, and about a 10 minute walk from the downtown core. The rooms are very basic, though it did have a flat screen TV. The bathroom was remodeled with nice tiles, countertops, and shower. If you are looking to impress your girlfriend or wife, this might not be the place, but if you are looking for a basic, clean, and good value in Aspen you can’t beat the St. Moritz.
