History

Established in 1997.

Upon moving to Aspen, Colorado in 1997, Albert Sanford opened Galerie Maximillian. Sanford had a clear vision for the gallery, one which would feature historic works on paper by master artists like Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, while simultaneously showing contemporary artwork with a focus on young British artists like Damien Hirst, Anish Kapoor, and Julian Opie. The guiding principle of the gallery is to only exhibit work that they would hang in their own homes.
