The Palm

My daughter attends SOU so the proximity couldn’t be better during my visit. The Palms is so quiet, comfortable, clean, and pretty. The staff is gracious and friendly. It’s my Ashland GO-​TO.

I loved the…
* pre-​ground coffee and decaf in the tins
* The oatmeal soap and two other options
* That they had shampoo and lotion in a container that stays there (instead of one-​use containers)
* options for more or different pillows (my daughter got a body pillow)
* The pool was open in the middle of October. It was cold outside, but warm enough in the pool to swim.
* ample parking
* quiet at night
* The garden was extremely relaxing even in the rain.
* The woman on duty was fantastic and accommodating.
* fact that they let me park there after I had already checked out so I could eat breakfast at Morning Glory.
It was Cool that you had electric charging stations for electric cars

What a hidden gem… refurbished little cottages circa 1940’s. Beautiful grounds full of flowers with a pool & cabana. It felt old world Hollywood. It’s not fancy but it’s clean & so charming. It’s a bit small but worth it. You’re a bit removed from the main drag of Ashland but still near. In the morning walk a few doors down to Morning Glory & have breakfast.

Our stay here was terrible. It’s definitively not suited for an extended stay, maybe one night, one person but not a couple. It was very expensive and their cancellation policy is two weeks out or you pay up to the two weeks. So be sure no one dies or falls ill or you are stuck for the $ for your stay. The sheets didn’t fit the bed, nor did the mattress cover so it was a fight all night to manage the bedding. No coffee, tea options in the room and coffee service in the lobby doesn’t start until 7:30, forget early rising. I agree with others that the grounds are beautiful but I will say that the interior of the rooms are shabby with peeling paint and limited storage. The «classic» rooms are very, very small again fine for one night one person but not longer.
I had hoped this would be a good place for us since our conference was at SOU but it wasn’t and as far as I saw there were no amenities and the owner, staff were not accommodating. This will be off my list for the conference next year.

For $ 250 (average) per night (we stayed 6 nights) I would have expected a dresser, or a small closet rod or something. We got 2 hooks and 4 hangers. We stayed at the sunrise suite and the room was very nice. But really, I am going home now, staying at a $ 89 motel in Eugene that has both a dresser and a closet rod.
The maid service was great, the grounds are amazing but the pool (which we didnt use) had cabanas YOU COULD RENT so, for $ 250 (or more) per night you can add $ 40 more onto your bill if you want to use the cabanas.
No, I have to say, this was not worth the stay. There are so many fun, quirky places to stay that even though we go down a few times a year for the plays, I will never stay there again. The tiny TImbers motel next door seemed more fun. Especially since we are not in the room much.
Oh, I highly suggest the Morning Glory for breakfast and Omars for dinner. Even though Omars looks right out of the 60’s, it has an amazing chef and he is winner of the Oregon Iron Chef competition.

After a sad attempt to stay at the Ashland Springs Hotel, we landed at the Palm for the first night of our honeymoon (and several nights after). I’d admired their beautiful gardens before, and they really benefit the luxury cabana feel of the place. They were in full bloom, with honeysuckle and lavender scenting our doorway. Lovely! The rooms themselves are beautifully restored, with a mind toward keeping the nostalgia alive. Clearly done with a personal touch and a loving hand, which my husband and I both appreciate. The housekeeping staff has been unobtrusive, and done all the little things, like wash our water glasses, replace fresh flowers, and refold towels every morning. The pool is small, but well done. The rooms are well-​sized and very comfortable. We will certainly be back.
The small criticisms I have is that our mattress is beginning to sag a bit in the center (more noticeable because my husband is a large guy, and I «fall» toward him if the mattress is not firm). You can hear the traffic from the road (not terribly annoying). Also, charging for the cabanas at the pool just seems a little tacky. Perhaps the pool is hopping in summer, but if not, then a $ 40 charge seems a bit ridiculous, as is advertising «drinks service» for soda and water. This is not Vegas, and unless you’ve got an alcohol license, I would just state you have soda for sale.
Overall, a great find!

Quick and easy check in, the room was our own private bungalo. The salt water pool is awesome. Amenities were as promised. Slight ding on the parking, had to drive around the block, but hey, can’t fight geography. Will totally stay here again and soon.

Loved the quaintness of The Palm. The staff was so helpful and accommodating. Can’t say enough. The rooms were a bit dated, but that added to the charm. Loved the pool area. The cottage looked awesome but we stayed in a suite one night and a single the next. Both were fine. Would definitely stay there again when in Ashland.

The grounds are beautiful, reception staff friendly, tiny rooms are quaint but dated, linens too, location is okay if SOU is your focal point, for the $ there are other spots with charm, personality and more amenities. Also be ware to read the change/​cancellation policy carefully its not as flexible as you may be used to, so probably best for those times your plans are set in stone.

We stayed for one night visiting Ashland.
We were fortunate enough to book the cottage suite. It was fabulous! We enjoyed the pool and optional cabana.
We will certainly stay when we return!
Service and hospitality was unmatched as well.

Stayed for two nights. The exterior is a very pleasant cottage style. The staff who greeted me were cheerful and efficient. The room was ready, light on and air conditioning set to a comfortable temperature. Although smallish, there was a nice chair to sit in, and plugs near the bed were accessible (unlike so many more expensive hotels I have stayed at). Everything was spotlessly clean although some of the paint was a little worn. The bed and bedding were very comfortable. It is close to SOU (literally across the street) and about 20 minutes walk from the Shakespeare festival. Most of the time I left my car parked.
4 stars is on an absolute scale, I feel the Palm is a great stay for the price. Only more luxury would rate another star. I would definitely stay again.

A delightful place. Rooms — at least our room — not large or luxurious but clean and comfortable, with some nice little extra touches. Very friendly reception, and available charging for electric vehicle — they even put out a classic orange cone to reserve the parking spot next to the outdoor outlet. What sets this pleasant place apart is the wonderful landscaping; it’s like living in the middle of a beautifully designed garden, carefully planned and well maintained — an absolute oasis. We enjoyed our stay and plan to stay again when next we visit Ashland.

God, I love this place.
My husband and I spent 4 blissful years living in Ashland, and we’ve stayed at The Palm three times since we moved away. The Deluxe Queen is our favorite room to stay in, as it feels like a home away from home. Sure, it’s a little further away from downtown than some of the other hotels, but it’s well-​worth the bit of added distance, and the staff is always delightful.
We’ll be returning in April and we can’t wait to check in!

Came here for a two night stay while in Ashland. This place has great winter discounts and the rooms are amazingly cozy and warm. The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms are roomy, the furniture and décor is very ‘comforts of home’. Double queen room has a great fridge and little microwave. The beds are set up so y have some privacy from one another. Just a really clean, friendly, comfortable place to stay.

I wish I could give this place a higher rating. The staff has, to a person, been sweet and helpful. When the shower broke on our second day, they dealt with the problem quickly, even though they had to hire a plumber because their regular maintenance person was in Portland, and they left us some chocolate and wine as an apology gift (we don’t drink so we gave them back the wine). The grounds are lovely. And to top it off, Morning Glory restaurant, one of the best brunch places in Ashland, is just two doors down the street.
Unfortunately, the room we stayed in was substandard in too many ways. It was tiny for $ 130+ per night. You could smell the bathroom throughout the room, a combo of cleaning fluid and soggy toilet paper. The industrial grade carpeting was stained and worn. The laundry room was right next door and the buzzing and vibration of the machines came right through the walls.
The real problem was that management did too many things in a cheeseparing way to make extra money: Our room, «Room 0,» really shouldn’t have been a room; it was carved out of a tiny space next to the laundry room. They hired a plumber who did a half-​ass job fixing the shower, leaving inadequate water pressure and only moderately hot water. They promised us that a «substantial» discount would be applied at checkout when we complained about all the room’s problems but the discount worked out to less than 6.5% of our total bill.
I’m guessing that the other rooms are nicer, real rooms. But we’ll never know because their false economy has cost them our business. We won’t be staying here again.

Oh, my goodness. Oh, David. I can assure you that it was not in that tiny bed. Not only do I not wash my face in bed, nor use expensive eye cream as a lubricant, but the clincher is that not only was the replacement eye cream actually not identical to the one that was lost (Jonathan came so close, and was so sweet about replacing it, that I didn’t think it was worth mentioning), but mine comes in a tube, not a bottle, as you say you found. So it’s a world of curiosity how you found a bottle of eye cream in our bed.
Regardless, even had I found the eye cream myself, Linda’s appalling customer service would certainly have sent me elsewhere in future.

Every time I come into Ashland I try to stay at the Palm. Forget all of those overpriced faux Edwardian B and B’s or Shakespearean themed hotels, this little refurbished motel is a gem. The saltwater pool is perfect for stretching out road weary muscles. The units are clean and quiet at nighttime and the beds are comfortable. Hurrah for that!
The staff are very helpful and friendly; the fact that they have I Pad’s with Netflix on them for customers is amazing.
You will be very happy here if you are the type who appreciates «real».

This place rules! My husband surprised me a cottage room here for my birthday because as locals, we always pass The Palm and remark on how cute it is, so it was quite a surprise to actually get to go inside! Squeal! So fun!
First off, this place is adorable. Our cottage was very tiny, but perfect. It is impeccably clean and had a small little kitchen with sink, hot plate (!), microwave, dishes, mini fridge. Super cute and quaint, yet also had modern touches like granite countertops.
The bathroom sadly has no tub, just a walk-​in shower, but they offer fabulous toiletry products like local soaps and lotion.
The grounds are gorgeous– lush garden space in the back with ample seating to enjoy a glass of wine. It feels remarkably isolated despite being on Siskiyou next to Morning Glory! The pool area is outstanding– it truly resembles a Pottery Barn catalog or some fancy hotel in Beverly Hills with it’s magnificent waterfall features and stunning cream cabanas, high end luxury chaises, etc. They even have a menu of drinks to order! All this at a little cutesy motel! Crazy, but super awesome! We are going back to swim this summer as you can just swim there too without staying in a cottage (you have to pay).
I am saving the best for last: the bed. Now, when we walked in, the bed looked basic. There isn’t even a headboard, so it felt more «college dorm» almost? However, I think I had the single greatest night of sleep there, I was SO comfortable. The linens are soft, cool, and wonderful. There is a featherbed underneath that is divine, and the pillows were perfect (for me). They offer a sleep menu to upgrade your pillows and linens for a price but we were beyond happy with the «defaults.» Perfect bed! And my husband loved the towels– thought they were soft and good quality for a motel.
The next morning, they offered us complimentary Nobel coffee in to-​go cups with lids. Nice touch! This place is quirky, clean and cute and we will definitely be back. The innkeepers were very professional and friendly as well.

This is an absolutely fantastic place to stay in Ashland! Make reservations early though as this place is usually sold out (I’ve found out the times we tried to take impromptu trips to this magical city).
Service is great and the owner is incredibly friendly and genuine (She also owns the Columbia on Main Street, another nice place to stay). The rooms are comfortable, not anything fancy schmantzy, but good quality rooms and beds. They got random games and stuff in the main office if you’re traveling with the little ones and need something to keep them occupied.
We had some bugs flying about in the room and let her know and she quickly vanquished all of them and left the room smelling fresh as a daisy. The kitchen nook is great too if you are looking to cook up something yourself.
The entire property is cute and it’s right next to Morning Glory (Do yourself a favor and go there for breakfast!).
Love this place!

We’ve stayed several places in and around Ashland. This is by far my favorite.
And you’ll need to plan ahead if you want to stay here. Like REALLLY ahead. 6 months is probably not far enough ahead. And not hyperbole.
Why?
1. Service. They are friendly on the phone. Friendly at the desk. Friendly when you need information… Just Johnny-​on-​the-​spot.
2. They get the details. There’s a card on the bureau with instructions for using their free WiFi. There’s a card on the bed describing the 5 (five!) different kinds of pillows they keep in the office that you can request so you get a good night’s sleep. The bathroom has 3 little hand cut guest soaps in light fragrances that even I am not allergic to. Large refillable bottles of shampoo and lotion on the counter so there’s not so much waste and accumulation of tiny plastic bottles of landfill. They have ice and ice buckets in the office. The ceiling fan has lights and the air conditioner works… Details are important.
3. Fresh paint. Fresh linens. Good mattresses. Toilets that flush. This is an older property — but the upkeep is stellar. Real wood furniture. Real hangers in the closet area. Real blow dryer in the bathroom. They have evidently just added a pool and cabanas to the original motel.
4. It’s a beautifully kept property. The landscaping will roll your socks down. It’s like being in a tiny rain forest. And in spite of being right on the main drag in Ashland — our room was quiet and our sleep — undisturbed.
The décor is spare and the rooms are on the small side — two things that go hand in hand with being an old fashioned «Motor court» — but as a quiet and comfortable home base to enjoy Ashland and the OSF — it can’t be beat.
