Asante Ashland Community Hospital

Let me comment on my experience with the Asante Ashland Community Hospital. Sometime late last year I ran into a medical issue where I needed to go to the hospital. Since I live in the surrounding neighborhood, Asante Ashland Community Hospital has been a blessing for me. My parents had taken me to Emergency. Since I have Oregon’s statewide medical plan, OHP+, this has saved me what cost all of this would be in the ambulance ride plus emergency room visit. Grateful for having universal medical I also enjoy the availability of the hospital for attending my monthly Mac meetings. Overall happy with the hospital.

This past week I reported at the time specified for a mammogram, furnished all
requested information to a pleasant lady in the beautiful waiting room on the second
floor, and walked down the hall to another specified waiting area, at the end of the hall.
Then I waited – and waited – and waited. No other patients were there, and no staff
person came through the inner door. After forty-​five minutes I opened that door and
asked the two women I could hear talking whether I was in the wrong place. One
asked who I was; the other said: «Please be patient; we are very busy.» It was clear,
however, that I was not expected. Almost immediately I was then ushered into the
room with the X-​ray equipment, and the mammography proceeded.
After it was completed, the technician said I should leave. I said I would be happy to
wait until the radiologist had looked at my X-​rays. «Oh,» she said. «He never looks at
them until the next day.» I explained that walking to the hospital, up their very steep hill, is a terrible trudge when the temperature is in the high 90s, and I do not own a
car. Would it not be possible for the doctor to read the X-​rays that day (as happens
at every other facility I’d visited in my 82 years)? But her answer was a definite «no.»
Two days ago I received a letter from Asante Women’s Imaging saying «our radiologist would like to. .. make a more definitive assessment» and «please call our office to schedule an appointment.»
I will not be making another appointment, for I have no faith in a facility with ONLY EIGHT BEDS whose radiologist cannot read X-​rays in a timely manner. I am willing to take my chances with breast cancer in the hope that this careless hospital and its
nameless radiologist (none is listed on the hospital’s Web site) will treat their future
patients better than they treated me.

Ashland Community Hospital is truly a community-​centered hospital. I hope the excellent care and service will continue as they merge with Asante. I’ve experienced giving birth here and being bedside with my father when he passed away here. As long term residents in Ashland, we’ve come to rely on having a full service medical center so close by. The emergency room physicians are thorough and, the nurses are amazing, the clerical staff are efficient and volunteers are friendly and helpful. The facility is clean, up-​to-​date and well maintained. If you have choice, choose Ashland Community Hospital.

Get my back injections here a few times a year. The staff is always friendly and professional! If ya gotta go to a hospital. this is a good one.

Very nicely decorated inside and easy to navigate, only 2 floors with an elevator and ramps for disabled! The staff are all very nice people and easy going! :) My one issue is the wait in the waiting room is a bit long! :/​I had a knee xray done, so was in radiology. The have great new looking equipment and technology! Better than what my podiatrist and VA have by far!!! ;)

Excellent. The staff were great (even all 3 doctors!). Very clean. A comfort room for family needs. All in all I’d say the best hospital experience in this valley.
