Aladdin’s is a gift and custom framing art gallery. We have been a locally owned, family run business in Ashland, Kentucky since 1965, and we’re now into a third generation. We carry local artists’ work and art that depicts local scenes such as the Paramount Arts Center and Central Park. We also provide a wide array of gifts from around the world. And if you want personal service, just ask owner Mary Johnson for a home visit to find the perfect art for your home. She can also help you design the perfect custom framing for your family portraits, diplomas, vacation photos or a special print. The Aladdin’s name conjures up images of the genie providing magic. We have that magic for you.
History
Established in 1965.
Aladdin’s Art Gallery has been a locally-owned and operated business in Ashland, Kentucky since 1965. Joe and Jackie Mock started «Aladdin’s Gift Shop» in October of 1965 and added custom framing and the selling of art prints in 1976. Their daughter Mary joined the business after she graduated from college and now runs it, with the occasional help of her daughter, Ginny and husband Rob Johnson. Mary started showcasing local artists’ work a few years ago and now carries more than a dozen local and regional artists’ creations, including wooden boxes, kaleidoscopes, jewelry, upcycled leather journals, and stained glass.
Meet the Business Owner
Mary J.
Business Owner
Mary grew up around Aladdin’s Art Gallery, since her parents opened it in 1965. She always had a love of art and studied art and art history at Centre College and Indiana University. After graduation, she joined the family business, helping with the custom framing of artwork. After her mother’s death in 1997, she took over the day-to-day running of the gallery, while her father did the books and cut and joined frames. Upon his death in 2009, Mary assumed her father’s responsibilities as well. She now runs Aladdin’s Art Gallery with the help of Libby Varner, a talented artist herself.
