Woolworth Walk features more than 160 local artists offering jewelry, fine art, decorative art and crafts in it’s nearly 20,000 square feet of air-​conditioned, quality display space.

The Historic F.W. Woolworth Building in the heart of downtown Asheville, is home to a uniquely «Asheville» experience; a place where you can browse the best local art while sipping a milkshake from the Old Fashioned Soda Fountain.

Our artists range from casual crafter to professionally trained artisans, from retired art hobbiests to Southern Highland Guild Craft members. The diversity of art displayed is vast, and guaranteed to provide you plenty to fall in love with for yourself and for any gift occasion.

Woolworth Walk’s goal is to provide a venue for local artists to connect with art lovers, to share their passion to create art and to enhance your surroundings when you take something home.

History

Established in 2002.

Found in the historic F.W. Woolworth building, Woolworth Walk features the works of local artists exclusively.

A clever and resourceful use of a relic. They’ve kept the soda fountain, but the rest would be unrecognizable to our forebears.
Like an antique mall, each stall is a separate vendor. Scope it out. If there are things you need assistance with, ask at the front desk. They have access.
The art is a cross between street fair, at the low end, and gallery at the high. Artists are juried in. Stalls are rented by the month for as long as the artist wants (or can afford). The primo spots are more expensive, of course.
I bought earrings that were the perfect souvenir. Happy!

A nice selection of local wares. However, the smell from the in store restaurant was overpowering and not pleasant. We cut our shopping short. Since there were textiles available I was surprised that such a strong odor was allowed, the textiles would be contaminated by the odor.

Super fun place when you have an hour to kill and/​or have people in town and are walking the streets. It is a great art gallery with tons of fun, local art.
The booths are classy and the layout like a well organized maze. The art is diverse and fun. Even when it is full there is space to spread out.
The diner looks adorable, but I have yet to try it. I do want a milkshake there one day!
During the summers there is a wine walk that I adore every first Friday at the art galleries. Search it.

In time, the Woolworth Walk of the future will be inside Sears, JcPenney and Macy’s stores. But until then, you can relive the retail glory that is Woolworth.
I can’t say I was around when this establishment was in it’s hey day, but I certainly got the feeling of the ol’ gal even with the variety of art displays throughout. If you like unique local art, this is the place to go. Or, if you prefer old soda fountain type food and drink, the Woolworth Walk has that for your enjoyment as well.
While I didn’t purchase anything, I sure did learn how an iconic space can be made anew while still holding the tradition that made Woolworth what is was (or what I think it was). It’s worth a look.

This was a fun and unexpected stop. Very eclectic art of all kinds, and most at available prices. Next time I’m going to revisit my childhood and have a hot dog and chocolate shake at the counter. Found countless number of pieces to go back and spend my money on, looking forward to next trip already.

Spent the weekend in Asheville mostly hunting for beautiful handmade crafts and enjoying the scenery. Woolworth Walk had a great layout for each artist, and of course, a wonderful range of media and craft – fantastic to look at and rewarding to purchase! I bought prints from artists Erik Leif and Melissa Moss – Woolworth Walk is the perfect venue for appreciating the local art and in my case, buying it for my home’s walls. I look forward to returning.

This is one of my favorite spots to stop and shop when visiting Asheville. It’s a group of small galleries in an old Woolworths building, hence the name. They even kept the soda fountain although it’s been upgraded a bit.
There are galleries of every type of art imaginable… photography, pottery, scupture, clothing, woodwork, glassware, and so much more.
On my previous visit, I came out of here with photograph of a tree. It’s definitely worth checking out when you are in town. And you are supporting local artists if you buy something.

This place is so much fun! Like a bunch of mini-​galleries all placed into two rooms. I’ve never gotten food here but have heard only good things. I stop in here every time I’m just walking around downtown, and I never get bored with it.
A great hub for local artistic culture. There’s often even a talented little Americana band playing outside.

I love, love, love this place. I was so impressed with what Asheville did with an old store like Woolworth. Instead of converting it into another chain or high-​end store, it was divided up so local artists can sell their stuff. I took my girlfriend and her friend here during our stay in the city and we all left with things in hand. There are two stories of artwork that is worth checking out. Some stuff is pretty expensive, but most is actually affordable, and if we didn’t have to fly back, I would have bought a lot more.

what a great gallery for local artists and what a great place to stroll and get some awesome gifts for yourself or loved ones!
the building itself is very big and has a whole downstairs also, there are restrooms and a little diner in the building also.
i go here frequently and made the experience that i can buy cards of asheville and the surrounding areas nowhere cheaper then here.
there are many different artists that rent spaces here, paper, wood, metal, fabric, glass, wax, wool and many more other materials are used in just as many different techniques to create very individual and special art you might not have seen elsewhere.
a lot of the artists really show you the area around here through their own eyes and with their own ideas.
i like the place a lot!

This is the best place in Asheville to get a taste of the local style. The old building is a landmark and I love that it has been repurposed to be a gallery for local artists. You get a really good cross-​section of the type of people who live here and their talent. Asheville is a wonderful art community and tourists and locals alike should come here as often as possible.

What a fabulous concept! If you are like me where you like to sort of look at art, but not museum art, and like to sort of aimlessly wander while looking at the art– then this is your place. There are lots of little booths and out-​coves featuring local artists. Everything from photography to pottery, paintings and terrariums, you name it. And the artists aren’t always there so you don’t feel pressured to buy something or sound artsy, you can just look. Especially good on those cold dreary days!

LOVED this place! Such a cool environment to check out many local Asheville artists under one roof. They’ve got everything from arts and crafts to painting to jewelry, pottery and everything in between. But best of all… the classic soda fountain! I seriously had the best chocolate milkshake I’ve ever had in my life. YUM! And an added bonus is that there is parking very close by.

Want to peruse varied artists’ (two floors worth!) paintings/​sculptures/​wood craft and maybe even buy a thing or two with no pressure (no artist standing around making you feel guilty)? Come in!
My favorite indoor place in all of Asheville! Come get a sense of the city’s arty scene before you grab a blueberry float or a lime phosphate and spend some time sitting at a soda fountain counter in the 1950s/​oh, sorry, I mean — spend some time sitting at a soda fountain in the coolest site in downtown!

The soda shop is a throwback to the mid-​century. It’s cute and I’m glad it’s open again. The food is simple, like tuna sandwich-​type things, and they have old school root beer floats.
The artwork is fantastic of course. I love walking around upstairs. There’s some weird art and a lot of nature organized in an easy-​to-​follow way. I get a jolt of inspiration whenever I go.
