Southeastern Sports Medicine

This place is awesome. They are some of the most professional, caring people I have ever met and I work in the healthcare field. Following a failed knee surgery somewhere else, several friends and co-​workers recommended Dr. Motley and Southeastern. He was honest with me and I expected to have one surgery and a long rehab. When he did the surgery, he did not have to do as much as he thought. If it was all about the money, he could have done the surgery he originally thought he would have to do, but after consulting with another surgeon, he was able to do another procedure that saved me a lot of pain and recovery time.
The PT staff is amazing. I was in so much pain before the surgery and could barely walk. Doing PT here, I am 1000% better and back to hiking and all the other activities I used to do. They consulted with Dr. Motley and pushed me in a positive way to get better. They were encouraging and gave me a lot of hope and guidance. It was expensive but it would have been much more expensive not to have gone here as I would have wound up with permanent damage. The PT staff and Dr Motley spend much more time making sure the care I got was the best it could be. The front desk staff was very helpful and nice even through the transition to Pardee. I had to be patient but it paid off. I was glad to wait at times because I knew they were spending quality time with patients and they did with me as well.
I would recommend them to anyone who is serious about getting well and willing to do everything they can to recover. I am so grateful that I found this place and these people!!!

Staff is nice, the desk staff and trainer were trying. I got here 30 minutes early to do paperwork. New office opened on Hendersonville Rd yesterday, new office with new partnership with Pardee Hospital. Waiting 45 min past appt time to see a PA!?! And still waiting. Not sure I’ll do this again. Finally called back after an hour and a half. Waiting in a COLD room for 30 + minutes. Their heating isn’t working. They really should have gotten things together before opening this office. Back to Blue Ridge Bone and Joint I guess.

I bought a groupon for that place, upon my arrival to the front desk there were 3 receptionists, I stood right in front of the desk waiting for one to call me. The two never made eye contact with me although you cannot miss the only person standing right in front of you, the other one was sitting there flirting with a co-​worker and complete ignored me for 3 minutes. I know they were flirting because I was close enough to hear the conversation; very unprofessional!
The guy was apparently an ex Army guy rambling about how great he was in the Army and such, and the girl was just about ready to pull her panties down to bent over; she was drooling, that poor desperate low self esteem of a thing she made herself out to be. I waited patiently to see how long they were going to ignore me. One of them finally said «you can come up if you want» with a sour attitude. I politely approached her, I was only 2 steps away from them…
The place is older, run down, mildew everywhere in the women’s locker room, steaming room doesn’t work, it had been ripped apart and not repaired, it is also full of mildew (GROSS), stuff aren’t clean AT ALL!
I am glad I did not pay full price and that it was a groupon! I am going to try another location to see if the customer service and the facility is Better. I definitely won’t do anymore business with that nasty, filthy place after my groupon deal expires…

Terrible practice! It has been impossible to even see a physician. They overuse physician assistants, making the patient pay for one visit after another, promising every time that «you will see the doctor next time.» The PA ordered tests and I told them I wanted the tests done at a specific place. They convinced me to use Park Ridge Hospital for the testing. A day later, I got a call from my insurance company that the test was $ 2000 MORE at Park Ridge than at Asheville Imaging and we would be paying about double to have it done there, so I called back and told them the situation and asked them to let me have it done through Asheville Imaging. The girl got very frustrated and said she didn’t know when I could have it done because she would have to start all over. This is an extremely unprofessionally run business and patients get poor customer service which affects their health and their pocketbooks!

I went in with back pain and scheduled an appointment. I showed up 15 minutes before and the receptionist goes, «oh…we like new patients to be here 30 minutes before.» Um ok? I would have gladly done that if the person scheduling told me to be there 30 minutes before. What should I do now, turn back time? Filled out all the paperwork and was done 1 minute before my appointment time. Waited probably an additional 15 minutes. The person taking me back wasn’t the friendliest but whatever I am sure they are busy. I get an exam done and x rays and was told I have ligament inflammation and needed physical therapy. She didn’t even explain what the x rays looked like or showed or even showed me one. I said «what did the x rays show?» to which she said «it looks fine.» A week later I can barely walk and get a second opinion who recommends an MRI. Turns out I had a bulging disc and herniated disc. I can’t help but think if this was caught the first time at Southeastern I could have had a better outcome instead of being bedridden and in extreme pain. I got the vibe they were shoveling people in and out as quickly as possible.

I went in for an appointment because my knee was bothering me after an accident. I sat in a waiting room for over 30 minutes beyond my appointment time and when I was taken back to my room I again waited for about an hour before anyone came to see me. During this time period it was clear that outside of my door there was plenty of socializing going on between the employees as they were loud and chatting about all things not related to patients. Finally when someone came in to see me they did a short examination and told me that my knee was just swollen and that it would come down within a couple of week. Possibility that I had torn my meniscus. He asked if I wanted a shot of cortisone which I declined and then he prescribed me a ibuprofen. He also told me that it would be getting a little bit worse before getting better. A couple of months went by and the pain continued to get worse and I assumed that it was worst case and that my meniscus was indeed torn which he told me would heal on its own it would just take time. I spoke with a friend about this and they said I really think you should get a second opinion. At this point in time I went to Asheville ortho, who immediately when I described the pain and the event that had caused it said «oh you may have a torn meniscus but it is far more likely that you have a micro-​fracture and that you will need surgery.» I was in the Asheville Ortho office in total for an hour, including an MRI. They were consummate professionals at all times and did not act anything like the staff at Southeastern Sports Med. I would not at all recommend Southeastern to anyone who wants to get the correct treatment in a timely fashion and feel well cared for.

I am scheduled for a full hip replacement in two weeks. My Doc recently left his old practice and is now affiliated with Southeastern Sports Med. I am having nothing but trouble with this new practice and I have not even set foot in their office yet.
I have spent the last week trying to get confirmation of my surgery date, a process that ought to be dead simple. Six calls and five working days later, I still have nothing — they promise to call me «as soon as I finish with this client» then 24 hours passes and we start all over again. Mind, I am not even dealing with my Doc, only the practice at this point.
As the clock is fast ticking, today I left a voice mail for the practice manager to see if we could get things moving. After all, their on-​hold messaging says that «If you don’t have a return call within one hour, contact the management.» OK, good enough.
This afternoon, I had the practice manager on the phone, conveyed my concerns in a very polite manner and followed up with a single pointed question. «Since I am already having problems with your practice, and since you are part of the medical team, what are you going to do to raise my confidence in your ability to perform going forward?»
The answer I got was that she was going to «Check with somebody about my scheduling and get right back to me.» I pressed the point and again I got the same answer, not «Sorry you are having issues, I will deal with it» or «Give me some details so that I can work with my staff to improve performance» or something similar.
As promised, I did hear back later from the practice manager. Apparently there had been a mis-​communication between the various parties as to the proper order of events to schedule a surgery, which is understandable given the fact that my Doc just affiliated with this new office. What does not wash is why I was not told by the scheduler on the first phone call and why I never received a return call from the 3x voice mails that got left. Instead I was just left hanging in the ether and had to raise a stink before anything got done.
I have had enough experience with the Medical Establishment to know that there are good doctors and some not so good, good practices and some that need work. I love my Doc, but the jury is still out on Southeastern Sports Med.

Good but extremely expensive. I was charged $ 150 for just one PT session (know other places just as good where I was only charged $ 75). When I called to dispute they said I would have paid less if I did not file insurance.
After talking to a few others who had been here I found that yes their prices are exorbitant. They bill though Park Ridge hospital which also makes costs go up. Great therapists but you can save a ton of money by going elsewhere and get the same quality.

Excellent practice, sports med

One of the poorest medical services I have ever recieved. From the Doctor who cannot remember your name. Asheville front office staff that are rude and walk away from you when you have a question. Hendersonville office staff that promises to check with the Dr. when it is 30 min. past your appointment time and never does.
To the billing dept that offers lip service only and never corrects the bill. To the practice coordnator who calls with more lip service in response to your many complaints.
If you are in need of Orthopedic services, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else

Great place to train. Chris Marler is a great trainer. He helped me gain the endurance and strength to be a competitive runner. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to achieve a new level of physicial fitness. He is willing to give a free training session.
