Ive been here a few times before when traveling through Asheville. It’s not too bad, certainly lots of choices so if you make a mistake the first time around you can still have something you like. The staff works hard and is pleasant. The interior is clean and maintained. I would recommend that if you like sushi don’t try that here, but the hibachi is good so have that instead!

The squirt was spicy good. You have plenty of sushi to choose. But the rest were not so good to me. Most of the good were taste plain. I would recommend go some where else.

Visited with family after trip to Zen Tubing. Sushi, hibachi, and buffet available. Great sushi bar! Good value with lots of choices. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our experience and left with full stomachs.

This inexpensive buffet combines a sushi bar, hibachi grill, Chinese food, and southern classics. This is also a hidden vegan gem! If you look past all the fried chicken and egg dishes, there’s a fresh fruit bar, vegan noodles, tons of vegan sushi, a good salad bar, and the hibachi grill can make fried rice and noodles to order without eggs. Most reliable place to go when you’re trying to please everyone in the family at once, all at a bargain.

A fantastic buffet. My second time here, and I am so impressed. The hibachi grill man is friendly, there are options of broccoli, mushrooms, onions, lo mein noodles, jasmine rice, and imitation crab. The sauces are great, the food is cooked thoroughly. The buffet itself is replaced consistently, even on a slow day, and more so on busier days. Excellent sea food soup, and the egg tarts are sweet and crispy and soft, all at the same time. The people are hard workers and all kind. The place is low key but looks authentically like something brought from China and the I recommend it because it’s about $ 7.00 a plate.

They have a wide variety of foods definitely something for everybody. From fried catfish to sushi. This is our first visit and definitely won’t be our last.

Food poisoning is not fun. Restaurant offered to cover medical bills with their insurance but would not refund our money. Contacted the health department.

I really liked the variety offered at this buffet. They had several items my kids liked such as steamed broccoli and cauliflower and the mac n. Cheese. My favs were the chicken sticks, fried Zucchini and the rangoons… oh and the coffee icecream. I also enjoyed the cheesey spinach and Garlic green beans. My hubby said the sushi was awesome he really liked the Octopus roll. He had lots of seafood to choose from including Crab legs, shrimp, mussells, Salmon and clams. They have a nice dessert bar with scoop your own icecream and a few toppings. cakes and plated desserts. Hibatchi bar and salad bar. Our server was nice but never came back to fill our drinks and only removed dirty dishes once. I would say its pretty typical for an asian buffet but did have some new items that I havent seen before. They also continually brought out fresh food as well as changed some things out for others.

Haven’t been here in a few years, and won’t be coming back anytime soon. I arrived at about 1130 to get a Togo box of food. I took the food to the other side of the parking lot where I could sit in the shade and listen to music while on break. The hibachi chicken has no flavor, my broccoli and chicken was cold and tasted like it was from last night. The lo mein was room temperature and also tasted like leftovers. The spring rolls were okay, but I stopped eating halfway through them because I had this feeling that I might not feel so good later on. My Togo box looks like I didn’t even touch any of the food because I won’t continue to eat nasty food. Very disappointed, one star is even to much.

I had dinner last evening with a friend at this restaurant because it was close to the hotel we are staying in. We did not have hibachi food. The only three food items either of us are that were hot, or even warm were the hot tea which was very good and it was hot. I had egg drop soup which was hot also. I waited for vegetable lo mean to be placed on the steam table; it was hot, but very greasy. The seafood items I tried were all tasty, but moderately warm. My companion tried one of the chicken stir fry dishes and said it seemed under-cooked. I had the same experience with a pork stir fry. Service was adequate, but nothing special. Very over-priced for what was received. We would definitely not return to this restaurant. —Disappointed Asian/Thai Food Lover from Dallas/Fort Worth, TX

Very pleased with Shogun ! For the price you can’t go wrong here. The food isn’t «Fantastic» like at a high dollar steakhouse but nevertheless its dang Good ! I Love their hibachi grill. Its ahout like going to Kyoto’s at a quarter of the cost. Great place to eat and a friendly staff !

Our family just visited this restaurant. This has been the worst service I have ever received. Especially the hibachi chef. The guy was super rude n was speaking chinese like we couldnt understand him. The food wasn’t fresh. I would not recommend eating here ever to anyone. Last time I will ever come to this place. Don’t waste ur money guys.

I don’t know if we came on a bad night… everything did not taste like what I was expecting based on the majority of the reviews! The food from the hibachi grill was unseasoned, didn’t taste fresh and the steak was so tough you couldn’t even cut it. I felt pretty sick after eating here. The service was good and the waiters were nice, so that was a plus.
They were good. There was a variety of food and the staff very friendly! I would definitely be going back when I am in town again!

Found this place on the way to Charlotte and was expecting an average Asian buffet, but this place was far more impressive! And being an Asian myself, I have high expectations for Asian food. If you’re driving on the highway hungry you should definitely try this place out. The waiters are all very nice too and some even know how to speak Chinese! Very reasonable price, good quality food, and especially clean for a buffet. Best Asian buffet I’ve been to!

The food I had was great, and the others in my party were far more impressed, but the selection just didn’t do it for me. Most of the items on the buffet weren’t even Asian(Italian chicken, beef pie, prime rib), and what was just didn’t have the variety that I’ve come to love about Asiana. The sushi, likewise, was good, but limited in variety. Only about 7 different kinds to choose from. At first glacé, the dessert bar looked amazing, but most of the things on it were very dry, although they do have several buckets of ice cream that you can scoop yourself. I didn’t try the hibachi service, but I’m told it was great. Looked pretty impressive, and I’m told the cook was very skilled and friendly. Overall, it’s alright. If it was the only buffet in town, I’d go every now and then, but it’s going to take a lot to persuade me to go here over Asiana.

Just returned from our first visit to Shogun and what a most enjoyable experience it was. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgable and the food excellent. Often in these chinese/japanese buffet places the chicken dishes/kebabs etc tend to be a bit on the dry side. The chicken dishes here were tasty and very moist, never over cooked. Sushi bar was great. Chose your own meat/fish and veggies for a stir fry. A lot more desserts than you would normally find in a chinese buffet and about 6 flavours of ice cream. We will definitely be back and recommend it to our friends.

The old China Garden Buffet has upgraded. A total redo — both in the dining room and in the kitchen — has made Shogun Buffet Hibachi Grill a contender for best Chinese in Asheville. The dining room is beautifully redone featuring a simple color palette and traditional Asian woodwork. The design is tasteful and appealing. The buffet is bigger and better than ever, with more options and hotter, fresher, tastier food. The sushi bar is a feast for the eyes as well as the tummy. And the teppanyaki grill offers a variety of made-to-order meals — all included in the buffet price. The changes are remarkable and welcome. We’ll be back again and again.
