I bought an Alan Paine cashmere sweater in linen on line. Jim, the owner, and Amanda were very helpful to me in selecting and then correcting the proper size.(I originally bought a size 46, but then returned it for a 44, which is perfect and equivalent to the large I wear in other sweaters.) They sent out the initial and replacement sweaters immediately, the latter the same day they received my return. Their price for Alan Paine cashmere(2-ply) sweaters is reasonable, and lower than the same sweater I saw on a UK Web site. I susequently bought another Alan Paine sweater in denim. Both the linen and denim colors are beautiful. Their prices for other items, e.g., Gitman shirts, are also quite competitive with other stores.

When I moved to North Carolina in 2005, after 14 years in the midwest, I had to remake my wardrobe. Goodbye heavy wool suits, hello light weight poplins. Back then, I sought out the famous Haspel poplin and seersucker suits — think Gregory Peck in To Kill a Mockingbird. Awesome suit and economically priced between $ 200 and $ 300. Fast forward 10 years and I need to replace those suits, so I go on line to try to find who is selling Haspel suits, since our Belk stores no longer are. I find Hunter & Coggins. Turns out, they aren’t carrying the Haspel anymore since Haspel is trying to go more high end. I was disappointed until Jim, the owner, started to show me the $ 250 poplin suits they carry now. I was replacing oyster and olive suits, and he found both in my size. On Sale. For less than $ 200 each. Got some seer sucker pants for 50% off. A white leather belt. A bow tie. Great selection, great prices, great service. They also sell Peter Millar, Gitman Bros. shirts, Pantherella socks. Will definitely make time to swing by any time I am in Asheville.
