I very nearly cried when I saw that this place closed. If the economy picks back up I home they will come back!

This WAS my preferred go to tex-mex style restaurant in Ashburn. I say WAS as this location Closed as of 01/02/2009! I do not understand the rhyme or reason as to why this location closed and the other in Vienna but they had the best Mexican style food in Ashburn… it was fast and quick and even my son enjoyed it… a rare thing! I’ll miss you Tijuana Flats!

My kids love this place and always ask to go back, but I think that’s just because of the Pez dispensers that come with the kids’ meals. This is the type of place where you order at the counter then go sit down and they’ll call you when your food is ready or bring it out to your table. The food is only so-so. There are other places you can find much better Mexican food around. They do have a nice variety of hot sauces.

I love this place! Not only is it not that expensive but the food is fantastic. Their chimis make my stomach happy and so do their burritos. Be sure to try all the sauces that they have, I have found that they are best on pretty much anything that they have on the menu! One of the sauces mysteriously tastes like the sauce that Pei Wei uses for their crab wontons, which leads me to believe they are owned by the same company. Oh well, I love this place!

The chips and salsa are first rate, and the service is amazingly fast. If you’re in the mood for some tex-mex, this is the spot to be. Their chimichangas are definitely top o the line.

This place has kind of unofficially become the food sponsor of the Wednesday night Station 23 medic crew. Over the course of the past few months, I think we’ve been here at least three of four times. Partly because of its proximity to the hospital, and partly because of how solidly dependable the food here is. Mindblowing? Not so much. Wholly acceptable? Most def. My typical default here used to be the Dos Tacos — sub whole wheat tortilla, low fat sour cream, and a small tub of salsa… for free! It seems like all of their meals are served with great crispy tortilla chips, perfect for scooping up the mild, fresh salsa. A couple weeks back, however, the medic I’ve been running with ordered the special of the day — a Rice Bowl. A monstrosity of rice, fajita-style bell peppers and onions, beans, and meat served in a giant taco shell bowl. When I saw it that first time, I realized that I had to come back another time to get one for myself. So when the opportunity arose, we came back and discovered that it wasn’t on the regular menu, but the manager informed us that they had the peppers and onions on hand that day for another special, so they could still make us Rice Bowls. It was definitely worth the trip! Great flavors, hugely filling, and it makes for great mixing with any(or all) of the sauces from their extensive self-serve hot sauce bar that everyone else has Unilocaled about. The other amazing thing is that I’ve never been able to finish the whole thing in one sitting — it’s that big. And most folks know how much food I can pound down! I don’t think I could go back to ordering anything else here. As always, an extra star awarded for supporting the local fire and rescue personnel. Most times I’ve been here, the manager’s been nice enough to offer a discount on the food when I’m in uniform. The prices are already quite reasonable, but it’s nice to be recognized all the same!

I really like this place. My wife and I go pretty often. There’s a number of different dishes and it all tastes pretty good. It’s not too heavy but definitely fills you up. The atmosphere is great, kids like it, and if you’re into spicy food, the hot sauce bar is a must. Definitely give it a try. It’s a great alternative to the long waits around here on Friday or Saturday night.

Hmm … past three reviews have been about the chimichangas, the tacos and the salad. Time to throw the burritos into the mix! When I’m thinking fast food«mexican» it usually boils down to Tijuana, Baja Fresh or Chipotle. California Tortilla if I’m DESPERATE and on the verge of hypoglycemic shock or something, and maybe Taco Bell if I’m completely drunk off my ass and I decide to walk through their drive thru, which hasn’t happened in quite some time. Anyway — back to TF. Yes, the décor of this place is pure kitsch, signed autographed pictures from various celebs they probably got off Ebay and forged, who knows. Their big thing is pushing fresh ingredients and hot sauces. As for the burrito, you can combo it in various ways — I like the beef and black bean myself, but if you’re a refried kind of person, they got that too. Now — they actually«toast» the burrito. Weird, I know … but surprisingly good. Also note — the fresh jalapeos they throw in there got some kick. And of course the burritos comes with a handful of corn chips. Nothing to write home about, but they’ll do. They’ve also got a bunch of hot sauces to choose from — I like the Smack My Ass the best(and no, not just because of the name). It’s a sweeter milder sauce … and they go all the way up to sauces that you have to sign a waiver for — think Blair’s Death sauce and similar ilk. The only gripe I have is that you have to put the sauces in these TINYASS paper cups. If I find the one customer that was filling empty coke bottles with hot sauce for the road that caused this — I’ll beat him with a burrito.

okay ‘mexican’ food. super fast service. i had a chimichanga that was a little bland but they have the hot bar with ~15 different hot sauces to complement the flavor.

Yuck. I’ve ‘patronized’ the place three times and each time I leave, saying, I’ll never be back!!! You may wonder why I’ve gone there 3 times if it doesn’t fall into my category of good eats… well, it’s for the hubby of course. He kept saying, give it one more try. Well, ha, on his third visit, he agreed, it just didn’t cut it. It’s dark and creepy looking inside even in the midafternoon. Perhaps to disguise the meals??? My steak salad had three tiny pieces of steak in it. Thanks for the extra order of leafy greens!

Not quite the same feel as the ones in Florida —(due to lack of humid hot weather) but I was so glad to find this place!!! Of the two new VA locations — this one is a l’il farther from me but definitely worth the drive. You would think that a franchise would taste the same, but it really doesn’t taste the same. Again, worth the extra drive to eat here. I can honestly say that this is my FAVORITE tex mex chain because I LOVE hardshell beef tacos and this Florida chain has the bestest. The meat taste deliciouso and they have the same(altho from my memory i think slightly smaller) hot bar with range of different sauces from temperate to scorching. I prefer the sweeter sweet chili sauces than anythign else, but i’m not a good judge of spicy stuff since i can’t take it — — — at all.
