Cooperative Preschool of Loudoun

The Cooperative Preschool of Loudoun (CPL) may be Loudoun’s best kept secret.
My son enrolled in CPL after hearing glowing reviews from very close friends. Most of the classes fill up quickly so if you are able to get a spot, TAKE IT! We enrolled at the open house in February and don’t think we would have gotten a spot otherwise.
The teachers and the cooperative community are what make this school such a special place. I am very picky about who I leave my children with, and my son loves his teacher to pieces (and so do I!). The cooperative environment means I get a peek into my child’s education, something that I won’t get when he goes off to public school — so our time at CPL is very precious.
My son has developed and grown in so many ways since enrolling, thanks to his class and teacher. Yes, I would (and do!) recommend CPL to my closest friends.

The Cooperative Preschool of Loudoun is more than a preschool. It is a family and a community. We really have cherished the years with the parents, teachers, and children. Together we really are nurturing our children. I would highly recommend this preschool to any parent that wants to be involved in their child’s early education.

Very disappointed in the management and communication. We were new to the area and called to find out about enrollment, voicemail said to send an email. We communicated over email and set a date to visit. They canceled our first appointment and rescheduled us. I confirmed the morning of and we walked in and were greeted with «I filled that spot for your child this morning to someone else.»
Ok, why not call me back and tell me not to come? Just very disappointed with the management and communication since we didn’t proceed further I can not comment on the quality with the students (kids) or the teachers.

Our daughter was at Cooperative Preschool of Loudoun (CPL) for a year until Kindergarten. She suffered from separation anxiety until we discovered this was directly related to a dietary issue. Throughout the entire process — from the beginning when our daughter would scream and cry at drop-​off, through the discovery phase of «we think this is what the problem may be,» to «we know this is the problem… how can you all help» — the CPL staff and teachers were absolutely amazing. They were supportive, communicative, and showed our daughter unconditional care which was absolutely essential into her becoming a happy, healthy Kindergartner.
Couple the above with the fact that the curriculum, instruction by and attention of each teacher is superlative, and you get an easy five-​star review. Preschool is as much about learning as it is about growing into independence, and CPL’s cost was beyond reasonable when compared to the quality of both. Our daughter was very well prepared — academically — for Kindergarten when the time came. Further, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the fact that this school is indeed a cooperative; our involvement in the school’s functioning made the experience all the more authentic.
I really cannot say enough about CPL, and I would be doing her and the school a disservice if I did not specifically cite Nancy Geier as one of the most lovely, caring, and talented early childhood teachers we’ve ever known (my wife is a teacher, so we know a lot). Through the entire lifecycle of our daughter’s issues and ultimate successes, Ms. Geier displayed a constant quality of going above and beyond in helping US help our daughter. This is no better illustrated by the fact that on the first day of Kindergarten, our daughter excitedly ran to the bus, hopped on, and never looked back. One cannot ask for more than that. Ms. Geier and the CPL team are truly exceptional.

We love this school and the CPL Community! This is my son’s second year. I was initially concerned that because it was parent-​run, it might be difficult for me to manage it with my younger son. I end up helping in the classroom about once a month and volunteering for other tasks (that can usually be done at home in the evenings) as time allows. You can be as involved as you want to be. The school itself isn’t that impressive looking because the classrooms are quite small and I’ve heard people concerned about it being off a main road. But on the flip-​side, the classes are small! 10kids max with one teacher and a helping parent. The 10:2 ratio is stellar! Also, the teachers are the glue here at this school. They are phenomenal. They are incredibly knowledgable on education and the value of play. The fact that we are off a main road hasn’t bothered us. The kids go outside to the fenced in playground and aren’t anywhere near the main road– ever. Other things I love about the school… the no-​sugary foods policy and the amount of healthy snacks that are sent in. The tuition is very reasonable too! Monthly family nights and events! Looking forward to sending both of my children there next year :)
