Minkus Family Medicine

Dr. Minkus has been my family doctor for years starting with my great Grandmother, and now is the family doctor for my husbands side of the family too. He is a great doctor and it’s sad to see negative reviews, not for him (because he and his wife are awesome) but because of his staff. I have to say that I must be a very understanding person because the staff can sometimes be short, but, if you pay attention they are always helping more than one person at a time and it almost seams like no one wants to wait their turn now a days. This doctor is so good that there is a long waiting period to see him, and everyone begins to get aggravated in the waiting room and then they take it out on his staff, and then they Unilocal about it. I have gotten to know his staff pretty well and I guess I’m just used to it, but if I felt that they were out of line I would let them know right there and then so they have a chance to explain themselves. The good definitely outweighs the bad in my book. The staff always provides me with all the information I need, they are aware of my conditions and know my circumstances with out me having to repeat myself. They know me and all my family by name and as I have observed all their other patients too. The doctor is attentive and both he and his staff is very well informed about your medical history as well as your immediate family history, so they are able to see red flags right away and take care of you before its too late, like when he told me to be careful when my A1C was elevated because I had a family history of diabetes. I highly recommend this Family Practice.

Dr. Minkus is an excellent doctor and he’s very thorough, but his front office staff is really rude, ghetto and unprofessional. One of the employees (short Hispanic lady) (she runs the office and has been there the longest) has an awful attitude. She not only is rude and rushes people off the phone, she has poor communication and people skills. I wish I got her name, but by the way she spoke to my fiancée (who was in horrible pain) and me. we just wanted to get the heck out and never come back again. He’s had it with her and her ghetto, uneducated ways of speaking to people. This is not the first time something has happened. He did keep going over to them because my fiancée loves Dr. Minkus. My mother-​in-​law also stopped going because she also experienced this as well. I asked to personally contact Dr. Minkus through email and she was very hostile, defensive and again… rude. We give up. Dr. Minkus will know of this because I’ll make sure of it. I just hope he gets rid of a lot of his staff. If not, at the very least send them to a class where they can learn how to be professional.

There are a few things one would expect from anybody in the field of helping another human being. Dr. Minkus, although I have only been examined by him once, immediately gained my utmost trust in his advice and care. The fifth star is missing. Indeed there is an office management problem that should be addressed. Tomorrow, I am going to make a call regarding office protocol, specifically patient notifications and laboratory results. My mom and I have both come here for different needs. I meet with the NP and my mom with the PA. No complaints whatsoever. They take their time with you, are thorough, and caring. Aileen attentively listened to me, answered every question I had, didn’t dismiss what I thought was going on, and quickly referred me to a specialist without a runaround while at the same time being compassionate. She even offered me free samples of a prescription to try it out. We’ve had Kaiser for a long time and struggled to find doctors as sincere and caring as these two ladies. So blessed to have found this office. The ladies at the front desk are also very helpful and have no issues to report. I plan on meeting Dr. Minkus as well. Definitely recommend.

Dr. Brian ROCKS,
he is a nice guy and smart and compassionate
listens to your opinion and then melds that with some top notch medical knowledge and clinical experience. The other PA’s are also well trained. The front and back office staff are busy but they always do what they say they are going to do and have treated me fairly and with respect. I have to switch groups for now, but hope i can get back next year.

Dr. Minkus and his staff have been a true blessing. I was seen by the nurse practitioner, Aileen, who was extremely patient and understanding. She reviewed all of my concerns, and she also completed my annual exam. Although I was nervous since I just met her, she put me at ease and took the time to explain to me everything she was doing. Aileenis a great practitioner, and I am lucky I found her. Her staff was pleasant when I made my appointment, and they were all very welcoming when I went to the office. I definitely recommend Aillen and her staff. Thank you!

Bad service with front office staff. If their front office staff has a personal emergency, it apparently puts patients needs on hold!!! Bad service.

The office staff that answer’s the phone are very rude and they don’t care at all about anyone! I was given a new medication and didn’t like it and how it made me feel. I called the week after I seen him to talk to him about it. I kept calling he didn’t call me back til over three weeks later just to tell me I abused the drug! Seriously they are the worst ever. My mom still goes but she feels the same way but she likes his adjustment. Never will I go there ever! If the office staff reads this. You lady’s are fake mean and I can’t stand your voices!

Worst front office staff on earth.

Dr. Minkus has the worst front office people working for him. Personally I have never seen Dr. Minkus and wonder if he actually exist at this facility. My wife and two of our kids have gone but they have all been seen by the Nurse Practitioner there. No one has seen an actual Dr. I set an appointment this morning to see Dr. Minkus at 3:40 pm today and I too was schedule see the Nurse Practioner. When I set the appointment this morning the lady at the front desk stated if I cancel the appointment I will be charged $ 35. She stated if I called and hour before the appointment I would not be charged. When I called an hour before to reschedule she stated she told me I had an hour after I made the appointment to reschedule and not be charged the $ 35. She stated if I don’t make the appointment the next time I will pay $ 35. I advised her what she told me and she proceeded to argue with me about what she said. I was like «wow lady are you nuts?» She said it’s up to you what you do. I said «BYE lady you have the worst customer service skills on the planet and I will NEVER go to your office again!»
Well guess who will never go to this QUACK Dr’s office ever again. (Raises Hand) Yup you Guess it! ME!
It’s not the money it’s the lack of customer service and pettiness at this establishment. Why would I patronize a business that treats their clients like this? There are a billion other doctors in the area to go to.
DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR’S OFFICE IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED FAIRLY OR WANT TO SEE A DOCTOR. I don’t think the doctor exist.

Very lousy
This clinic is very lousy. I had 2 – 3 visits with them and every time it was with an nurse practitioner/​assistant; never with the doctor. Lately I visited them and they decided to refer me to a specialist. It took them 2 weeks (2 weeks!!) to send the referral request. The office manager’s reason: the nursing staff was on vacation. Too disappointed.

It has taken me over a year to write this.
Dr Minkus was the worst thing that ever happened to me. I was referred to him because he was one of the few doctors that could prescribe a medication that could help with a opiate addiction.
Dr. Minkus prescribed me Suboxone. I was
Told this medication would eliminate the terrible sickness involved when you stop abusing opiates.
What I wasn’t ever told was that this medication was a synthetic opiate.
I wasn’t told that the manufacturers of this drug recommend a rehab setting when taking it.
I wasn’t told that the maximum time on this drug as advised by the manufacturers was 3 months. Dr. Minkus kept me on it for nearly 3 years.
I wasn’t told that this drug was addictive and the sickness involved when you try to stop taking it is WORSE than actual opiate withdrawal.
Dr. Minkus knew I was an addict in fact within the first 6 months of taking this drug I was abusing it. He called me out on it smacked my hand and said I needed to have someone dispense the medication to me. I submitted to that process for a few months. He quickly forgot and I was back to dispensing my own dose. I was no longer abusing it but really wanting to not take it.
I asked at every appointment in year 2 when can I stop taking it. A direct answer would never come. He would lower the dose every 6’months but I was on such a high dose from the start that titrating down would take forever.
This drug affected my cognitive skills and messed With my emotions severely. I had
To go to a inpatient treatment center for 4 months to be free of the Suboxone. Not once did hear from Dr. Minkus. I was his regular patient for several years and not even a call to see if I was ok. For all he knew I relapsed and was back on opiates. His
lack of concern of my absence just showed that it was never about me and what was right or best for me and my health.
Dr Minkus failed me. He
Should have recommended treatment from the start or a least when he knew I had abused it. He should have dealt with the medication the way the manufacturer intended it instead of being in bed with the companies promoting it. Instead of helping an addict who was incapable of making safe and smart choices he helped stacked the deck against me.
Since this drug entered my life and I received the treatment to get it out of my life I lost my husband, daughter, home, car and job.
Thanks Minkus for never noticing I stopped coming in for all you knew I overdosed and was dead. You care for your bottom line not your patients. I would have had a twinge of respect for you and given a pass
Towards ignorance for the Suboxone if you bothered to check to see if I was ok.

This review is for Dr. Brian’s care and bedside manner. I’ve seen Dr. Brian and his wife Dr. Roxana (see separate review for the Santa Ana office) since 1998 as my primary doctors. Through job, insurance, and location changes they have helped guide me through the paperwork. I’ve even fired an insurance company that stopped covering Dr. Brian. I go out of my way because I trust them with my life.
Dr. Brian is booked pretty far in advance, but his Physician’s Assistant and Nurse Practitioner are very friendly and capable, and you can usually get an appointment quickly to see them. If any judgement, or medical history questions arise they can confer with Dr. Brian and get the right answer quickly.
My only worry is that people will read my review and become new patients here making them even more popular. But that may be a necessary evil to make sure we still have great doctors like Dr. Brian after ACA starts in 2014.

So I’ve been having a few issues with pain in my knee. Finally decided to go in to get it checked out. When I called to make an appointment they asked what it was regarding and I stated that it was for knee pain. Went in for the appointment and the nurse practitioner whom I forget her name, was very nice but stated that there’s nothing they can do without an MRI or X-​ray. She didn’t touch my knee or even come near it. Then she gave me some advice for it, which realistically I can pull up from google in 5 minutes. And for that I got charged $ 75. I feel that if there is nothing they can do for knee pain without those scans, then WHY book the appointment in the first place? Or at the very least charge me less if you honestly didn’t do anything. Waste of money.

Both my wife and I are Dr. Brian’s patients. His office staff are first class and all are very knowledgable.
He has real R.N.‘s on staff who can take vitals and give injections, or draw blood.
Dr Brian is really ‘wired-​up.’ His staff all use lap-​tops and your data is shared in the office. When Dr Brian talks to you he has all your records in his hands. Test results and earlier visits are at his fingertips. He takes plenty of time to talk to you and explain everything.
He will write prescriptions on his laptop and you can pick them up at the drug store on your way home. — really convenient.
He accepts urgent walk-​ins if you are the first three or five in the morning. Appointment times tend to run a little late, because he spends more time with all the patients.

Dr Minkus and his staff are the best. I’m so sad I moved out of the area. He was my children’s pediatrician and when they grew up and no longer had insurance we paid cash to see him. My grown children even return (although not so much because we live further away) to have their back adjusted. We’ve tried several chiropractors and none, and I mean none, have come close to what Brian Minkus does for them. Definitely see this doc. I recommend whole heartedly.

Dr. Brian Minkus is an Angel! So incredibly skilled, compassionate and experienced he gives his patients a sense of security, hope and a true feeling that you are in the most caring medicine practice there is. Dr. Brian is a Doctor of Osteopathy so he treats your whole body as well as your soul. He sees the connection between the two, nothing escapes his awesomely bright mind. Add to this his trademark adjustments and you’ll understand why is he so unique and brilliant. Everyone who works in his office is super caring, very knowledgeable and just purely great. Dr. Minkus specializes in many, many areas of medicine like women’s health, natural hormone replacement, weight loss, fibromyalgia, minor surgery, blood pressure and diabetes management — just to name a few. I’ve been his patient for 7 years now and I trust him completely with my child’s life and mine
