Specialties

Experience Taos and the casual comfort of the Southwest at the Cottonwood Inn B&B. We are ideally located 10 minutes from the Historic Taos Plaza — allowing you to enjoy Taos without the hustle and bustle. We are convenient to such area activities as world-class skiing, hiking, fishing, climbing, biking, Taos Pueblo, museums, galleries, shopping, and much more.

We have spectacular gardens with many birds who gather around our courtyard fountain. We are nestled at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains with breath-taking mountain and mesa views. The spacious, elegant rooms will accommodate your every need as you relax and enjoy that special ambiance found only in Taos.

The building which is decorated with local art is a superlative example of the adobe style of architecture that defines New Mexico.

This is the perfect place to relax. Whether you’re here for romance, artistic inspiration, exploring the great outdoors, or simply quiet, we have what you are looking for!

History

Established in 1996.

This eight room b and b started as a modest home in 1947. In the 70’s the property was purchased and expanded by artist, author, and architect Wolfgang Pogzeba.

His design takes advantage of the site so most windows face the winter sun and decks and patios are shielded from the predominant winds. All rooms are positioned to take advantage of mountain and meadow views. The exterior of the front is two-story adobe with exterior buttresses similar to those used to reinforce the walls of old adobe churches. The design was influenced by Saint Francis de Asis Church in Taos, which he studied and wrote about.

In 1986 the house was purchased by Tal and Marilyn Luther who used it as residence, repository for his extensive collection of southwestern books, and her studio. Several of her works hang in the common areas.

The heating, plumbing, and electrical were redone and the house was opened as a B and B in 1996.

The Goodwins bought in 2007 after falling in love with the inn and Taos.

Meet the Business Owner

Shantal and Brantly G.

Business Owner

The Goodwins are avid outdoors people and enthusiastic students of the culinary arts. Shantal enjoys a variety of outdoor activities including skiing, fishing, biking, and roller skating along with knitting, sewing, card and parlor games, fixing up old cars, writing, soap making, reading, watching movies, and pottery making. Shantal comes to Taos from a life as a college teacher, prosecutor, crabber, and bar owner. Brantly returns to northern New Mexico after a career as an oil industry geologist. His love for this part of the world comes from growing up in Santa Fe.

Winston and Eva, two escapees from the SPCA, fill out the Goodwin household. They are allowed in the common areas, but are not allowed into the guest rooms.

Both are avid gardeners who keep irrigation, insecticide and fertilizer use to a minimum. Our gardens consist of native trees (cottonwood, aspen, piñon pine and western juniper), fruit trees and lush, colorful perennials. Most of our plants are drought tolerant.
