The Kennels Of Springdale

I was a little uncertain of this place at first based on the reviews of customer service, but I was delightfully surprised.
When I called, Chris answered and was very helpful and informative of the procedures I’d have to follow to be registered as a new customer. After I asked, she was more than willing to allow me to come in to see the kennels before deciding and putting down a deposit. She even invited me to come outside of their usual office hours, so it wouldn’t be too hectic.
Unlike other kennels I’ve heard of, they allow you to bring your own food as well as any toy (with the warning that it might get lost, which is a reasonable risk).The floors are heated for them at night and everything looked very clean, from the kennels themselves, to the outside play yards.
Their prices were very reasonable and they offered a wide range of options to help you save money if you need to. They also only charge for how many nights you stay, so it’s nice not to have to pay for any half-​days.
My only complaint is how out of the way it is for me to get to from SLO. It’s a little out in the country of AG, so it’s a good 10 – 15 minutes back to the freeway. However, the distance was worth it for how relaxed and pooped out she is after returning home.

My dogs have never been boarded befor, a little bit worried, but not after the great experience we had with springdale. Loved the staff, the way my dogs came home spoke volumes.. Not stressed out, Happy … will be using this great place for sure.

Horrible first impression based on the phone call I had with the rude woman who answered the phone. Although they had availability to board our dogs, the woman seemed totally uninterested in welcoming our business or even taking the time to speak with me. Customer service goes a long way and I will not recommend this place nor will we be giving them our business. Highly recommend Thousand Hills Pet Resort over this place… They are super friendly, accommodating and welcome new business.

Love these folks and the awesome facility. Our boy can’t wait to get there when we turn onto Corbett Canyon Rd. We can tell he gets plenty of play time, which is super important as he is HIGH energy. Great grooming too!

So. This review is based on a single first impression phone call. We have never left our dog to stay here for the day or overnight, and we have never visited this place in person. BUT, we had initially planned on booking a day care stay for our dog this coming weekend while we plan to be in town ATV’ing at Pismo Beach. I literally just called about 30 minutes ago to inquire of their services and their availability. The woman who answered the phone, Chris, RUDELY brushed me off and I couldn’t help but hang up on her because of it. Here is basically how the phone call went:
Me: Hi, I was looking for day care centers for my dog in the area and I found you on Unilocal.I was wondering how I could go about making a reserv–
Chris: (cutting me off) You know what? We can’t take any more dogs in over the summer for daycare. We just don’t have any more space.
Me: (shocked) Umm… okay then.
I usually only leave reviews on places I love or places I hate. I would have to say this places falls under the latter. Even if they really DIDN’T have any space left, there are TOTALLY other ways of saying so. Like the wise proverb says, «its not what you say, it’s how you say it». Especially to potential customers who would possibly give them repeat business and referrals. Good customer service goes a long way. This place probably needs to take a second look at who they’re staffing at the front desk.

Great place if you have a double coated dog and you don’t want his body/​fur staying damp because of possible hot spots developing from a damp environment. I have a Keeshond and this is a concern since kennels usually get hosed down and then the dog lays on it. Keeshonds are double coated and need to be dried thoroughly as they don’t dry well down to the skin by themselves. For this reason I haven’t put mine in a kennel for quite some time. But this place is great because they don’t hose them down unless necessary which I also requested. I think that since they take the dogs out to play every 2 – 3 hrs there is much less chance of the dog messing in the kennel and therefore it stays cleaner and DRY. His fur looked the same as when I dropped him off and he didn’t smell either. He was in the regular outdoor with smaller indoor section 4×6 run. I also really liked that the dogs go out to meander on their own with the other dogs and aren’t just taken for a short walk around a parking lot as some vet kennels do.

Updated Review: I take my dog to the Kennels of Springdale for doggy daycare almost every week once a week. She loves it there. One of the owners Chris is really nice and helpful, and the other owner is just not a bubbly person. There is one person that is there that looks after the dogs that has been there since I went there that seems competent. The others are young adults that seem like they can handle the responsibility. I trust them for doggy daycare. I have not used them for boarding. I still think that they are the most decent of the kennels available around here. Not the standard that I was used to living in a larger area. I was going to leave her there over the weekend not so long ago, I booked one of the «luxury» suites, but right before I dropped her off they gave the suite to someone else boarding two dogs. I assumed it was because they were 2 dogs, perhaps larger than mine, & mostly staying for more than the weekend. We got bumped to one of those kennels that feels like it’s outdoor. I ended up canceling and making different plans. I still don’t feel comfortable leaving her there for boarding for anything longer than a day or two because I like her inside & pampered. My friend boards her dogs there when she goes out of town and she seems satisfied. I think that the dogs are safe and cared for while they are there. I don’t know of any incidents there.
Old Review: This is my impression based on the fact that I’m looking for a place to take my puppy to day care and boarding around AG. I stopped by and did a tour to see if it would be a fit for what I am looking for. The facilities are not bad per say, they are deep in AG though. Took me about 15 – 20 minutes from my house around Grand. They are open to the public from 9 – 12 and 4 – 6. They have kennels for different size and behavior type dogs. They have outdoor play areas also for the different types. Just regular wire kennels with cement flooring and a small run. They are technically indoor, but feels outdoor at the same time. The facility and grounds look very nice from the outside, but still reminded me of a nicer shelter. The suites are further inside, but still just a little cell block. There is three or four of them, a little larger than the other kennels, with heated cement floors, a small run, and cameras that work off and on depending on the connection. They have at least 5 – 6 play areas. There were about 10+ dogs of varied sizes and kinds in there in one. They were in the process of putting new turf in two of the areas, so the dogs. One group was in a gated dirt area, but it could have been because of the maintenance. The dogs are divided into different groups based on their temperament. They are not supervised, a staff person will go and check on them if need be. My understanding is that the dogs are outside from 9 – 12 and then inside in the afternoons, pick ups are from 4 – 6 PM. One of the co-​owners gave me the tour and she seemed a little cold, and not really too caring, but that was my first impression of her. We moved here from a location that offered several places with luxury boarding where there was no kennel feel even to the cheapest of kennels and supervised day care, so perhaps I’m being particular, but that is what I’m looking for, and I can’t say that I have found that here. The customer service was okay, and I had no concerns with the staff, and there was nothing at the facility that instilled concerns, it just might not be a fit for us for boarding, but I may try them for doggy day care.

SUCH a nice place! Deb always goes the extra mile to find space for us, even when we’re calling on short notice. The staff is so nice, and they always remember Sushi and will tell us how and what she did when we return to pick her up. It’s very clean, and the dogs always seem happy and playful! Highly recommended!

We loved our experience. Our pugs are like our children, and when we’re away we have to know they’re in a clean, comfortable place with attentive staff. I showed up unannounced before booking a reservation, and they happily gave me the full tour. Considering the number of dogs on the property, it was spotless. It’s great that there’s so much outdoor space, and lots of dogs were running around the grounds, or sunning themselves on little porches outside the «luxury» kennels (the high-​end option at $ 40/​night for the first pet). When we returned to pick them up, we saw our pugs playing outside, apparently enjoying themselves. The staff is friendly and clearly love animals. We’ll be back.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE– We live in Nipomo and travel the long haul regardless of where were headed to bring our dog Chevy for boarding– They treat her as if she were their own– Chevy has so much fun and enjoys her visits! I would refer them to anyone A++++++++
