Moderne Barn

First, the space is warm and inviting, even if large and cavernous. The food is fantastic. I would classify their menu as expertly prepared comfort food. Great wine selection too.

Went to dinner last Friday and was very disappointed. The service was outstanding but the food was awful. We asked to speak to the chef and we were told he was not in. Our friend couldn’t eat the spinach salad and sent it back. Meatball appetizer was plain and nothing special. We shared the papardelle as an appetizer which was the only good thing we ate all night. Two of us had the tuna which was the worse I have ever had. It was cold, dried out and had no taste. Another person had the cod which he said was nothing special. My wife had the duck which wasn’t awful. We were so frustrated and disappointed that we didn’t say anything to the waiter. For the price of food here the food should be much better even if the chef was not there. We will not go here again.

Six of us dined in Moderne Barn three months ago and the food was excellent for all which is unusual and a wonderful thing. And that was the reason we visited again this past week. How disappointed we were the second time around. Our spinach salad was bland and extremely disappointing considering how great all of our salads were the first time we dined at this restaurant. I ordered the tuna again as my main course because it was simply exquisite last time we dined there. The tuna this time was not only bland and under flavored, but also very dry. The only saving grace was the tomato jam which comes along with it which was the only element adding flavor to the tuna. My husband’s cod was not at all great. The duck main course was very good as was the pasta dish. All in all, a very disappointing experience. We will not be returning.

6.30 reso on a sat nite. Big space 2 floors they tried to sit me next to the waiter station at a table for 2. What a disgrace. Almost walked out. Who hires these hostesses?? Food was ok, drinks were good service was fine…$ 300 for 2. If I’m going to spend the money which I have no problem doing I’m going to THE HOMESTEAD in greenwich which is way better food and you get treated like a customer…

Great décor and very good food. It gets busy around 7 pm and a little noisy, but we love to dine there. Excellent service. Highly rtecommended.

This place certainly has highs and lows. First off, it’s absolutely beautiful, one of the nicer interiors I’ve ever seen in a restaurant. After that, I’ve had some very good meals there. I’ve had the duck, some pastas, steaks and burgers. I’ve also had the gnocchi, which wasn’t up to par with the other food.
Only complaint is that I’ve had somewhat inconsistent meals. The duck has been great some times, and little dry and flavorless others. Same goes with the steak, sometimes is amazing, others is a little disappointing.
Still a great place, one of the best in the area.

Moderne Barn is one of those rare places that seems to never have an off day. Every time we have dined there, we are treated to great flavors and ample portions.
The Wait Staff are professional and attentive to your every need. The food quality is always fresh and mouth watering. I highly recommend the Sunday Brunch and either the «Hangover Piggie» (sausage stuffed pork loin wrapped in bacon, bell peppers, onion, provolone polenta, egg Sunnyside up) or «The Westchester» (breakfast sausage, house-​cured bacon, scrambled eggs, seven grain toast, tomatoes) My favorite off the dinner menu is the amazing Thick-​Cut Pork Chop (provolone polenta, roasted red bell peppers, Spanish onions, balsamic vinegar rosemary sauce) I once said to my wife after finishing the pork chops, that if we were the only ones in the restaurant, I would probably lick the plate to get every last drop of flavor. The place was packed, so I retained proper decorum through our delicious dessert.

I was there last night for dinner with 3 other friends and was disappointed in the service. I had to send my drink back because it was too sweet. Once it came back, it was good. We ordered appetizers and took a while to order entrees. Once we finally ordered them, 3 of the entrees came within about 10 minutes– way too quickly. We all assumed they were sitting around pre-​made. Mine came about 5 full minutes after everyone else was served. That was unacceptable. And although 3 of us ordered pasta, no one ever came by to ask if we wanted fresh pepper or cheese. Not sure what was going on last night, but I was unpleasantly surprised by the sub-​par service.

I don’t write these as you can tell from my 1 previous review but honestly I was annoyed by my experience here. The food is good but the service just did not deliver. I ordered a steak medium rare and it came rare. That was fine and you know what, mistakes happen. Then we ordered dessert and they forgot my order and brought the wrong order for my friend. That was where it got really annoying. I had to wait for my dessert while everyone else ate and it was awkward. Then mine came way after everyone else finished. That just stinks.
They did nothing to correct the error or even acknowledge the dessert error. No apology, nothing. It is sad that you spend this much and they don’t appreciate the business. I am very tolerant but very disappointed tonight. The bartenders were cute though!

Came here for dinner with a group for diner around xmas time. Place was decorated very nice. We had reservations and sat quickly when we walked in. This is the third time and the food is just as good as the first time just great. We also walked in and I held the door for a couple only to notice that the guy was Clark Griswald aka Chevy Chase. He was very polite and afterwards my sister got a pic with him. Made her night lol

I had the swordfish and it was excellent, great flavor in the dish– also was really excited to see a Sri Lankan stout on draft! Great choice. However considering the price point on the dishes, I would have expected more attentive and sociable service and more of a dining experience. It’s loud and big and impersonal and I felt like a modern barn animal– I think restaurants of this size should either be far more casual or have impressive service– this feels off. Good meal.

My fiancé and I recently celebrated our 3 year anniversary at Moderne Barn and were not impressed at all. Let me start by saying they have created a very nice ambiance and have plenty of space.
The service was below average. Our waitress was not very knowledgeable about the menu and had no personality whatsoever. She might have been having an off day, but don’t take that out on the patrons. She over poured my fiancé’s vodka martini and didn’t offer to wipe up the pool of vodka that formed under the martini glass. We had to ask her about 5 minutes later to bring an extra napkin to the table to clean it up.
The menu was OK, but overpriced based on the quality of the food. We ordered the Oyster appetizer which was average, not great. We then split two entrée’s, a scallop entrée that was absolutely awful, the scallops tasted like they had just been defrosted and thrown on the plate and they tried to mask the bad taste by over-​salting the dish. The second entrée was the pork chop, which was better but still not great and worth the $ 33 price tag.
We also ordered a bottle of wine that we later found out had been marked up 4x based on the average retail price on Vivino.
The meal cost $ 235 for 2 drinks, 1 bottle of wine which was the cheapest Cab on their wine list, 1 appetizer and 2 entrée’s.
I will never go back to this restaurant and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Had dinner here Saturday night with my husband. We had a 6PM reservation and were seated immediately.
The atmosphere and holiday décor were beautiful, service was great and the menu had a lot to offer.
We started off with the chicken wings and pretzel bites which were terrific and different from most restaurants we’ve been to…
My husband ordered the Filet that was cooked just right and I had the shrimp risotto.
Everything was great, until I found a small hair in my risotto which I mentioned to the server when they stopped in to check on us. She quickly took my dish back and asked if I wanted another and also advised the manager… Now everything would have been fine— I’m not one to complain as I know things happen… However, the manager came to our table and apologized but then added that he didn’t know «why» there would be hair in my food considering that the person in the back who was preparing it was bald… An added rude, last minute remark that was completely unnecessary that I did not bother to argue.
Restaurant ended up taking my meal off of our bill and the dessert I had as well. 3 stars for trying to do the right thing while simultaneously putting their foot in their mouth.

Moderne Barn is a great place to go for a night out or for a delectable meal with friends and family.
You wouldn’t know it from the outside, but this restaurant is HUGE inside and can house parties of any size. This restaurant does seem to get booked quickly on weekends, though, so book ahead – especially for large parties.
My family and I came here around 7:30 on a Saturday night and the place was hopping. The restaurant was dimly lit and Christmas lights were hanging everywhere – it was beautifully decorated. We were led upstairs to sit on the second floor, which was intimate and quieter with a window that looks down on the first floor.
Since my family likes to go all out, we ordered a lot of appetizers before our main courses. For appetizers, we ordered the mezze plate ($ 16), the mushroom pizza, and the Caesar salad. Out of the three, the best was by far the pizza, which was dominated by caramelized onions and sundries tomatoes. The worst appetizer was definitely the mezze plate, which had both disappointing portions and less-​than-​satisfactory dips. For $ 16, the plate had only 3 pieces of feta and about a tablespoon of hummus – a huge waste of money!
Everyone was extremely pleased with their main courses. To eat, I ordered the swordfish ($ 30) that came with acorn squash and asparagus. The swordfish was cooked well (not overdone) and the sauce didn’t overwhelm it. The acorn squash was a bit weird – it came in its shell and definitely didn’t excite me. Others at my table ordered the seafood risotto, the hangar steak, the ribeye, and a salad. Everyone left with a smile on their faces!
We were full from dinner come dessert, but we ordered beignets nonetheless. What a mistake! These were terrible – they were hard on the outside, as if they had been sitting outside for days. Even the chocolate sauce tasted like dark, bitter chocolate. We never leave desserts, but we left beignets for the waiter to bus.
All in all, this meal was close to 5 stars, save for a few overpriced dishes that didn’t justify their price tag. I will definitely be back.

First time here over the weekend. It was packed. The décor is really nice. For appetizers, we ordered the pumpkin soup which was good but not typical flavors I like and we ordered the popcorn shrimp was delectably served in a tipped over takeout container. It was crispy with a light sweet and sour sauce.
For mains, had the swordfish with acorn squash and broccolini and it was good. The other main was The double cut pork chop over polenta with veggies was an excellent dish. A lot of times restaurants will overcook the pork chop because it is so thick and it ends up too dry and this one was cooked perfectly. The waitress asked if we wanted a side for this dish which implied it was needed as we weren’t asked for the fish. We ordered the brussel sprouts which were a bit bland. But the dish was so big and had the polenta and veggies so not sure why we were asked to order a side dish. We overheard the table next to us and the same thing occurred. Seemed like upselling.
Their dessert menu sounded very delicious and we ordered assorted cannoli and the chocolate babka. The desserts looks pretty but were absolutely disappointing. They presented well but did not taste good.
I would come back and skip dessert.

Been here twice before, and Love it. I plan on coming back as soon as possible. The ambience is fun, and the food and drinks are very good.

On a quest to find a new brunch spot we decided on Moderne Barn as its reputation precedes itself in Westchester County.
My S/​O and I arrived earlier than our reservation of noon and were promptly seated. Fresh cornbread Madeline-​Esque pastries were offered along with water and coffee. We were early for a brunch cocktail but that was okay :) the special today was a blood orange mimosa, definitely going to have to try sometime.
Seeing as how we usually peruse the menu be lee deciding on a restaurant (I will admit I’m slightly picky) and I had been eyeing the waffle or the French toast. I selected the French toast and my date selected the biscuits and «ribs» based on the recommendation of the server. Both dishes were unbelievable.
The portion of French toast was enough to feed two people and his dish was perfectly sized and filled him up. I was unable to finish my dish and now have dessert for later :)
The décor is beautiful and the place is immaculate. A private dining room is available for special occasions as well as a balcony filled with tables for a more intimate dinner.
The waitstaff was attentive and we will more than likely go back for dinner.
A must try if you’re in the neighborhood.

For my parents’ 32^nd anniversary, my brothers and I decided to treat them to dinner at Moderne Barn.
Located right off I-​684, the restaurant is on the tail end of a strip of stores. Don’t let that fool you, though — Moderne Barn is a classy establishment, with the quality of food (and prices) to match. The restaurant itself is fairly large, and somewhat holds true to its name by being decorated as a modern-​esque barn. The ceilings are high with lovely chandeliers hanging, dark wood tones, low lighting, and an overall upscale feeling to it. There’s a large bar lining one of the walls of the restaurant and a second floor for dining as well. Because if its size, the restaurant can be somewhat loud but it comes with the territory.
The menu has a number of new and classic American dishes with a couple of twists thrown in. To start I went with the Vietnamese fried popcorn rock shrimp. It was presented beautifully and was full of flavor — easily the highlight of my meal. It came paired with red cabbage and roasted peanuts which really cinched it; I was also impressed with the generous portion. We also decided to share the black mission fig flatbread pizza which was pretty tasty — I would have liked to see more goat cheese but that’s just my personal preference. For my main I had the thick-​cut pork chop which was served with provolone polenta and topped with red bell peppers, onions, and a balsamic sauce. The pork chop was very tasty, very thick and the sauce complimented it well. The polenta was super creamy but was a little on the lukewarm side. For dessert I had the strawberry waffle shortcake, which was basically a strawberry shortcake with waffles subbing for the shortbread. The waffle and whipped cream tasted super fresh and was a nice finisher to the meal.
Overall a great experience at Moderne Barn; it’s upscale yet relaxed and they serve solid food. I would be interested in coming back to explore the menu more and to try their brunch. Happy anniversary mom & dad!

I’ve been torn since pulling out of the parking lot last night as to whether to give Moderne Barn a 3 or 4 star review. It feels almost cruel to give only 3 stars to a restaurant as beautiful as this, with it’s soaring, curved ceilings, beautiful glass-​blown chandeliers, and its overall warm and inviting atmosphere. If ambiance alone was the only variable I was measuring, Moderne Barn would take home 10 stars. It’s that gorgeous inside. In fact, it’s so gorgeous and classy inside, that it sets an incredibly high bar for all expectations to follow.
Unfortunately, things didn’t fully live up to those expectations on a number of accounts. For one, while waiting for our friends to arrive, I decided to forgo their fancy cocktail menu to evaluate them on a classic Rye Manhattan, served up. In a bar as fancy as theirs, with such an incredibly vast selection of bourbons and ryes, there would be no excuse for my drink to be anything but perfect. This is not about me being a purist, this about knowing your craft. And anyone who knows anything about bartending knows you never, ever, ever shake a Manhattan. So sure enough, when I heard the maraca-​like sound of my Manhattan being shaken to death, I knew there was going to be trouble ahead.
Here’s the deal: If you’re going to run a classy joint like this that spells «modern» with an «e» on the end, where every detail seems so well thought out, and you’re going to charge top dollar for cocktails, then at least make them correctly. Manhattans are always stirred. And no one wants to spoon ice chips out of a drink they requested «up.»
We then moved from the bar to a comfy booth on the first floor. We were a party of 5. And the girls decided they’d rather plow through a ton of small plates, rather than jump in on big entrees.
First, the highlights:
An heirloom tomato salad with fresh pesto and burrata was absolutely decadent and delicious. There are few dishes I love more than this one, and their version was executed flawlessly.
The fresh tuna tacquitos were also very popular among the girls, who finished them off before I could even get one.
And the Korean Pork Ribs were decent as well, though the homemade kimchi managed to steal the show in my opinion. I could have eaten that all night.
All of the other appetizers were just average. Dishes like the Crab Summer Rolls, Bourbon Wings, and Pretzel Bites didn’t really impress. And a Basil Pesto Flatbread Pizza was fairly pedestrian. By no means was anything bad. I would eat it all again — except the pretzels, which were a waste of money at $ 10 — but none of it inspires me to want to come back.
Being quite full at this point, two of our friends opted for Barn Salads for their entrees. A third went for the Lobster Cobb. I don’t eat lobster, but I will say they were very generous with the lobster, and it looked like some of the freshest I have seen in some time.
My wife and I split the Orecchiette with broccoli rabe, pork sausage, and parmesan. We’ve all seen this dish before. Everyone and their mother makes it. And that’s why it’s important to make yours stand out. Unfortunately, this was a fail. The pork sausage was so dry and mealy, whose flavor resembled Greek meze more than Italian sausage. The dish itself, overall, was dry and could have used a little broth to moisten up all of the other ingredients. I did, however, like that they chopped up the broccoli rabe, which didn’t overpower the dish like most tend to do.
For desert we split the Cast Iron Brownie à la Mode, served with a candle for our friend’s birthday. No one cared much for this one either. A little too crunchy and burnt on the edges. The vanilla ice cream on the side, however, was airy and delicious.
All in all, I can’t fault this place for trying. A lot of money has obviously been invested into the space, and the sheer number of servers and manager-​like people running around tending to people suggests they really want their patrons to have a great time dining here. They seem to have all the functioning parts needed to be a première destination, but they’ll need to tweak some of the smaller details that ultimately set a 5-​star restaurant apart from a 3-​star one.
All that said, we’ll be back for another try in the future.

Upscale restaurant serving a wide variety of American and fusion-​style dishes in mediocre quality but beautiful presentation.
Service was excellent, especially for a busy weekend night. I came here on a Saturday night with my boyfriend and his family, and we got seated under our 6:30 PM reservation immediately. As we deliberated over the menu, we were brought loaves of warm bread and sticks of butter on mini slabs of marble, which was a cute touch. Our waitresses was constantly coming by to check on us, and our food came promptly. I don’t think my water glass was ever more than half empty. The waitress even came by towards the end of the meal when we were out of bread and gave us more (dangerous for our waistlines, but well-​appreciated). 5 stars for the attentiveness of the staff!
For the food, we basically ordered a debatably unhealthy amount of it and shared between 4 people:
Lump crab summer rolls: So refreshing and light! Honestly, I didn’t taste a ton of crab, but the veggies inside were delicious! The jicama and cucumber provided a nice crunch amidst the delicate rice paper exterior and soft avocado. The mango coconut sauce was just subtle enough to complement the roll without overpowering it. 3.0÷5 stars.
Tuna taquitos: These were unique and an unlikely combination. Think crispy slices of jicama and thick chunks of tuna all wrapped up in a mini taquito with a dollop of guac on it. So good. 4.5÷5 stars.
Sugarcane beef skewers: These were gorgeous. Two iceberg lettuce wraps with a beef skewer and sweet, tangy papaya salad nestled inside, all sprinkled with toasted cashews. The beef was super tender, and slid right off the bone. 4.5÷5 stars.
Fried Vietnamese popcorn rock shrimp: YES. Easily the highlight of the evening. First of all, it’s presented in a cute way, with an upside-​down Chinese takeout box on a plate and the shrimp spilling out of it onto a bed of pickled red cabbage slaw. The shrimp was SO perfectly done. Super crispy on the outside (almost like it had been double fried) and bathed in this sweet, mildly spicy sauce (I think it was a soy-​sauce base). 5.0÷5 stars.
Red wine charred octopus: I really wanted to like this dish, but the sauce slightly ruined the otherwise high-​quality octopus. The red wine sauce overpowered the entire dish — In fact, I thought it was just some sort of berry sauce at first before I remembered it was based off of red wine. The flat, wine aftertaste did NOT pair well with the octopus. 2.4÷5 stars.
Black mission fig pizza: I’d really describe this as more of a flatbread than a pizza. The ingredients by themselves were excellent — Sweet, juicy pieces of fig, fresh arugula, creamy goat cheese, and generous sheets of prosciutto. However, the pizza — I mean flatbread — seemed a bit sloppily assembled. The pizza ingredients just fell apart in my hands, and basically every single slice had either too much of one ingredient (mostly arugula) and not enough of another (cheese or prosciutto). Don’t get me wrong, the pizza was still delicious, but my boyfriend claims the spicy sausage pizza blows the black mission fig out of the waters. 3.5÷5 stars.
Provolone polenta: Oh man, this was comfort food at its finest. So creamy, so cheesy, so warm, so perfect. For a side dish, this was a HUGE portion (like a small skillet size). Definitely shareable. 4.5÷5 stars.
The two-​story building used to be a furniture store, with high, wooden ceilings, tall wine cellars, and an overall sleek, sophisticated feel to it. As the evening wore on, the place got more and more crowded, and because there’s no sound dampening, I’d imagine it would be beyond noisy when the place is completely packed.
Overall, an enjoyable experience! Lots of fun dishes to try, great ambiance, and phenomenal service. A few dishes could use some tweaking, but overall, a very satisfactory meal.
