Visual Health Doctors of Optometry

The doctor gave my son the wrong prescription (and it wasn’t even close) and I had to go back today to get a new exam and return the glasses we bought. Today I am giving them one star because I can’t give them zero but since I see the owner Ashish reads and responds to these reviews, he has the chance for me to revise to 4 or maybe even 5 stars.
The visit was so my son could get new glasses and contacts for sports. We bought glasses from them even though the are about three times the cost of other places because they seemed nice and did the exam for use. After getting adjusted to contacts we went ahead and purchased a years supply (90 pairs) from an online service, of course not realizing it was not the correct prescription and his vision was not near ²⁰⁄₂₀ corrected. Because we open the two boxes containing 90 lenses each, we can only return them for a 50% credit. We have 88 pairs left… again that are the wrong prescription because of the doctors error.
So Ashish, I am going to ask you here on Unilocal,will you take back the 88 pairs we purchased and replace them with 88 pairs of the correct ones? I realize we did not purchase them from you but had your doctor given us the correct prescription we would not be in this situation. Please speak to the people at your Clarendon location and you can gather all the facts. My sons name is Sam and my name is Chris. I look forward to speaking to you and being able to revise this review to include your willingness to help us out and make us happy repeat customers.

I am very happy I came here. Friendly and knowledgeable staff taught me how to put in contacts and were always available. Definitely a 5 star

I was not impressed with my visit and the prescription was not good. But I have not been inspired to write a review until I received yet another harassment this morning chasing me to make another appointment. They literally email, call, and text you to death. I have asked on multiple occasions to be removed and they can’t seem to do it. So now I am not just going away, I am going away mad. Stay away from this place. Nothing special.

I felt ripped off by this place. It was the first time that I went to Visual Health Doctors. I made the assumption that it would be similar to past places and did not inquire about the amount that my insurance covered. With past places, I was told BEFOREHAND how much my insurance covered. After my exam, it turned out that I owed over $ 300.00. Why they couldn’t review my insurance coverage beforehand is beyond me.

Best optometrist in Arlington. Great selection of glasses in store and accepts majority of insurance companies.

Fantastic place to go if you need glasses. I needed new glasses since my prescription changed too include a new pair of sunglasses. First off, they are very friendly and extremely helpful. They have average prices for both glasses and sunglasses. They may be slacking on the big name brands you are looking for, but they do care some. I wasn’t pressured to buy the most expensive thing in the store nor was I given the cheap option either. My only gripe would be the size of the room. It is a little on the small side. They have 2 areas where they can help customers so there might be some wait time if you are not being helped. Overall, still a great place to go.

I just had my exam this morning and I was pleasantly surprised. I don’t currently have glasses/​contacts, but I like to get my eyes checked every year just for general health. Additionally, I have a desk job that causes me to be on the computer 8+ hours a day and I was considering some computer glasses to reduce eye strain.
I chose this optometrist because it was covered by my vision insurance provider, was close to my office, and the reviews seemed overall positive. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted by the employees who made me feel very welcome and comfortable. The doctor (Sara) was very friendly, thorough, and explained the entire process/​results. You could really tell that she was taking the time to conduct an accurate exam and not simply trying to rush you out.
Last year I had my eye exam done at MyEyeDr and my experience today at Visual Health was far more enjoyable and less stressful. At MyEyeDr, the treatment felt cold and impersonal, and I felt pressured to make a purchase immediately after my appointment. When I turned down making a purchase on the spot, their reaction made me feel uncomfortable and they did not offer to give me my prescription at all even though I had paid for the exam.
At Visual Health, the treatment was much more personal and comprehensive. Best of all, I was not pressured into making a purchase (although the salesman was busy with a customer when my appointment ended so maybe I won’t be so lucky the next time). At the end of the appointment Sara asked me if I would like to shop around for frames, but I had to get back to work and I like to take my time to shop around for options. No problem! The assistant checked me out and handed me my prescription and I was on my way. Phew.
I would definitely come again next year for my annual checkup. The only complaint I have is that I was not seen immediately at the time my appointment was scheduled and had to wait 10 minutes or so. However, once I was seen by Sara I could understand how she ran slightly over with some of the exams. She likes to be thorough with her patients and address any/​all concerns. This was just a minor issue and would not keep me from returning again. I think I found my go-​to office for my eye issues!

I have to start by saying, the optometrist is friendly, approachable and knowledgable. However, the salesman (male) was extremely pushy and rude. I understand you want to sell your products, but instead you’re pushing your customers away by constantly nagging them to buy something. He didn’t even try to sell the products in a positive manner. I wasn’t even in the store to buy anything or for an appointment, I was there with my boyfriend so he could pick out glasses. Just from hearing the salesman from the waiting area, I got annoyed. When you’re expecting to pay $ 200 max and the salesman gets frustrated when you don’t want the most expensive frames in the store, is a turn off. All in all, not a good salesman and I wouldn’t recommend going there to buy anything.

I want to first say that the optometrist was absolutely fantastic, Sara was very thorough, professional, and explained everything to me. She confirmed my previous prescription, I was given samples and I thought I was ready to get some glasses for a great deal (49 $ groupon for eye exam and $ 225 for glasses). Not quite. I’ll note that I had actually been in the office the prior week for a contact fitting which went very well, but the sales experience was equally awful.
Both times, by the time I sit in the sales chair the salesman has a price upwards of $ 500 with very little explanation. I understand adding a coating to glasses, but for $ 99, explain to me what I’m getting, don’t scoff when I question it. Instead when I was hesitant, he seemed frustrated and just asked me how much I thought I was going to spend. Sorry, I thought the $ 225 credit for glasses wouldn’t mean you add 8 boxes of contacts I didn’t ask for. I lost all confidence at this point and purchased frames and contacts elsewhere. When mentioning their prices seemed high on contacts, I was told «There’s no way» from the salesman. I then purchased the $ 75 per box contacts I was quoted in store that night for $ 40 online. I’d love to purchase in store but the experience was rough.
I will definitely be back for my next eye exam but I won’t be purchasing anything from the sales staff.

This was my first visit to an eye doctor since having moved to Arlington in February. I was nervous because it wasn’t going to be my usual optometrist back in Florida. The eye doc who took care of me was really sweet and answered all of my questions. It was an overall happy experience with her.
So why the 3 star and not 5? This has to do with the check out. I wasn’t even quite sure I had solid vision insurance so I was going to use their $ 99 promotion which covered the glasses and contacts exam. Sweet right? Well the girl at the desk suggested I check my insurance anyway to see what they offered. I ended up paying $ 116 and that included a 15% discount offered by the insurance. That’s strange… So when I got home I looked over the bill and then called another location to ask about the promotion vs the insurance. She told me flat out that I should use the promotion because it’s a better deal.
Why is this annoying? Well I definitely showed some apprehension at check out because I couldn’t understand why paying more made sense — it doesn’t.
I promptly called the location back and explained my concern and recalled the conversation I had with their other location. The girl was noticeably agitated on the other end of the phone. The bubbly demeanor that she had given off at the office was now gone and it was clear that she wasn’t happy with me.
Compensation. I only wanted to get charged what I was intending to. She was nice enough to offer me a 3 month supply of the contacts I was going to order for free to make up for, which I was more than grateful for. I only wish she hadn’t sounded so annoyed about it.
This is an isolated incident and I don’t want anyone to stray away from visiting them because the optometrist was a delight. I just don’t want anyone paying more than they should is all. :)

The staff was super welcoming and friendly. I’ve been a patient for a couple of years and it’s always a good experience with Dr. Blankenship. He even has a good sense of humor as I ask him a bunch of (silly) questions– like «Does pot really have medicinal properties for glaucoma?» To which he laughingly answered: «Yes, but the person really needs to have glaucoma.»

Truly are the best! I no longer live in Arlington, but I use them whenever I visit. Their staff is friendly, helpful and extremely professional. I found them during a search for optometrists-​I had some pretty unpleasant experiences before finding them. They ordered my contact lenses after one optometrist dropped the ball, and even gave me trials because my order took longer than expected. When I walked in, they knew me right away from just a phone call. I can’t say enough about them and will definitely use in the future. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I have nothing but nice things to say about these doctors and the office. Everyone is very nice to work with and makes scheduling an appointment easy with the later hours they have. I was having an issue with my change in prescription and they easily fit me in and made some suggestions to decrease my contacts prescription rather than my having to purchase a pair of glasses, which I appreciate.

This is a phenomenal practice that really takes care of their patients. Their office manager Kat excels at customer service and taking care of patients. They do their best to maximize your insurance benefits and do follow-​up appointments within a timeframe free of charge to ensure your new Rx works for you. Plus you can get appointments relatively quickly, even ones after 5.

Staff and services are great. I recently changed vision insurance and I’m glad this place takes a lot of providers. I would give 4 stars but they don’t have the best selection of frames. I got the prescription from Dr. Koshbin and bought frames down the street at MyEyeDr.

Dr. Khoshbin is awesome! They are clean, efficient, and honest! My last optometrist gave me a prescription that was completely too strong and tried to push several medicines for dry eye which I did not find necessary. So glad I found this place!
Their staff is very competent and friendly and the location is great! Highly recommended!

Came in here for an eye exam mid-​summer and found the experience to be very smooth and the folks to be very professional. I was especially impressed with the front desk gal who did my pre-​work up. She very obviously knew what she was doing and was also super spunky. The doctor who saw me was very gentle and calming, seemed like a genuinely nice person who listened to all my issues. He gave me a trial pair of contacts that didn’t work out to well for me so I called back a month later, spoke to that same spunky assistant and she got me all squared away. Between her and the doctor, they obviously have things in order.
Glad that I now have a reliable place for my contact/​vision needs!

I was referred to this spot by a friend, and I have to say — it was worth every minute and every penny!
Conveniently located steps from the Clarendon metro (with convenient Saturday 9−5pm hours too), this eye care spot has got everything. It is clean, modern, sleek, convenient, and oh so friendly! The welcoming smile and friendly words of Kat — the woman behind the front door — is like none other. She is an absolute pro!
I had anticipated that picking out my new frames would take about an hour, but she had me in a pair that I absolutely LOVED in less than 10 minutes! And she did the entire thing with a smile and a great personality. I have to say, I didn’t quite know what to do with myself for the next 50 minutes before my dinner reservations around the corner!
She was also so helpful with my insurance, explanation of benefits/​expenses, and overall questions and concerns. I haven’t had a go-​to vision place ever before, but I think I just found it!

Visual Health Doctors is super convenient and located where I frequent. I needed a place where I can depend on for instant, accurate and no nonsense service. I needed to get my eyes checked and another years worth of contacts. Upon stepping into the door, I was greeted with warm smiles and a great facility.
Dr. John Du was the optometrist on shift that day and started my check up. He was effective, efficient and a great «people» person. After my check up, I told him I wanted to order my contacts online because I wanted to save some money. (I had a bad experience with my previous optometrist really overcharging me for contacts.) Dr. Du, was fully supportive and even gave me a few samples to hold me over till my order of contacts came in.
When I put in my order with the website later on that day, they contacted Dr. Dr and he promptly approved my order within 15 minutes. I was surprised at how quick it was! Within 4 days, my contacts were in.
Im glad I went to Visual Health Doctors and visited Dr. Du. My experience with them went without a hitch and it definitely saved me money on contacts.
