Thompson’s Appliance Parts & Service

I was contact by Thompson Appliance after a purchase of a Sub Zero refrigerator. I was told by a very pleasant woman, the fee to install was $ 290.00. I thought this was expensive but understandable for a Sub Zero. Then I was told that the «trip charge» was approximately $ 300.00. So I recoiled and said why not just say the install fee is $ 590.00. I said I was not comfortable with the costs and she offered to have the owner call me. I promptly received a call from Steve Thompson, He had obviously had this feedback before because he engaged me with a very polished and rehearsed speech to overcome my objections.
He explained the time and risk to install and that his team was the best. He went on to say he owns several businesses to include a general contracting business. So I said if we could combine the trip charge with other work for which I could hire his company, I would feel better about the fees. He said he would come to my home and look at the general contracting work that needed to be completed and provide a quote. I agreed and we scheduled the time.
The date he was able to come to my home was the same day the movers were to deliver the household goods so I did not see him arrive but apparently he spoke to my wife and said he would have his assistant send me a quote for the work. I was surprised he did not engage me and I was surprised that I did not receive the quote. I called several days later and inquired with Steve as to the progress on the quote. He said he thought his assistant sent it. I assured him I had not receive it and the quote only needed to be for the install as I had hired another contractor to do the other work. he said he would have the quote sent right away. Three days later I still had no quote. So I called again and reminded him that he said his team was «the best» but as of yet I had not seen the quote or «the best» of anything form his team. He told me I could choose another outfit to install my refrigerator. I hung up, as only an arrogant and inept business man would tell a potential client to go elsewhere when he clearly had not followed up effectively or timely.

I called Thompson’s to ask for an estimate on a repair for my Cooktop. Over the phone, I told them exactly what was happening in exact detail. They sent someone out and took 2 min. to determine exactly what I had told them over the phone. The charge was $ 85 dollars and the tech was quite rude. Later I received an estimate for $ 750 for repairs. These folks were recommended by Electrolux. The tech never told or offered me a rebate on the service call if they did the repairs.

Well, we just had Thompson’s come out yesterday to assess what caused our refrigerator to quit working. It was only nine years old and new when we bought it. The repairman was on time and fairly nice. He found that a starter for the compressor had shorted out and burned. He explained that it had burned the posts on the compressor as well and we needed to buy a new refrigerator as there was no way to fix the problem. My son, who is an electrician asked him if we could buy a new starter and repair the posts and see if the compressor was still good, saving us the cost of a new frig. He said, no. The compressor would cost about $ 700-​$ 900 and we might as well buy a new frig. We thanked him and paid the $ 86.00 for the service call and he left. My husband and son went down and bought a new starter part for $ 35.00 at ABCO appliance parts here in Arlington and the nice man told us these parts burn out all the time and most likely the compressor was still good. My son filed off the burned posts, put in the new starter and we found the compressor was just fine. The frig is working like a champ 24 hours later, freezer is now 10 degrees and the frig is 38 – 40 degrees. What a difference in price to fix the frig! We couldn’t believe this guy’s insistance that we needed to buy a whole new refrigerator. Never use Thompson’s again for any thing!

I just called this place today (7÷2÷12) and they are NOT friendly over the phone! DO NOT do business with them! It is $ 79.50 service fee just to look at your appliance

DO NOT… I repeat… DO NOT take your appliances here to be repaired, unless you like it when appliance repairs take twice as long and cost twice as much as you were originally quoted. My husband took our dryer to them to have two screws reset. He was told it would take about 24 hours and his credit card was charged a little over 40 dollars. Over 48 hours later, we had not heard from anyone at Thompson’s regarding the status of our dryer so he called them to see if the repairs had been completed. At that time, he was notified that they had gone ahead and done another $ 43 dollars worth of work on the dryer without calling to notify us or obtain our approval for the additional work and charges. I called this morning to find out exactly why we were not notified that the repairs would take twice as long and cost twice as much as we were intially told. The first Thompson brother I spoke with was rather unapologetic, telling me that we «were being treated no differently than any of their other customers.» I told him if that was the case, that certainly didn’t bode well for their business practices. He admitted he told my husband that the repair would most likely be completed within 24 hrs and had no acceptable explanation why they did not call us to let us know why it would take longer or notify us they was a need for additional work and additional charges BEFORE proceeding. He chalked it up to being some type of «miscommunication» to which I responded that part of their JOB is communicating with the customer. While I was was speaking with the first Thompson brother, his brother picked up the phone, interuptted the conversation and proceeded to SCREAM at me. I told him several times that as customer, I didn’t appreciate the way he was speaking to me, however he refused to stop screaming, so I finally hung up and sent my husband up there to pay their additional «ransom fee» so we could get our dryer back. I’d hate to see anyone else go through what we just went through or get treated the way we just got treated… so PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE for your own good and the good of your pocketbook, STAY AWAY FROM THOMPSON’S APPLIANCE REPAIR!!!
