Description

Specialties

Outstanding, locally-roasted coffee by an independent coffee house. Single-origin coffee, nitro cold brew, house blends & delicious espresso-based drinks in a friendly neighborhood setting.

History

Established in 1996.

Known as «Arlington’s Original Coffee House,» Java Shack has become a community fixture in the Courthouse area. Long-time owner Dale Roberts, intending to honor the culture of fine «java» that he experienced while traveling in Taiwan, opened «the Shack» at the end of a residential street in Arlington, aiming to serve outstanding coffee at a place «where everybody knows your name.»

The Shack inspires a loyal following, but also has enjoyed regional recognition. Ranked in 2006 by local experts as the «Best Café» in and around Washington, D.C., Java Shack has been featured consistently in The Washington Post, The Washington Times, and Washingtonian Magazine as a cozy, independent coffee shop that values community, sustainability, and great coffee.

In January 2015, ownership transitioned to Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters, the Shack’s principal local coffee supplier. By uniting roasting and retail, the Commonwealth Joe team is taking Java Shack’s coffee game to the next level!
