Smart Phone Repair

Well, I was pretty skeptical to go to this place per other ratings and commend but I have nothing bad to say about the service I received. This place is just a small kiosk in the middle of Ballston mall, they’re also an authorized AT&T dealer so at times they may be busy to get a prompt service. Today however, I simply went after looking them up when I was in the area. My iPhone 5 had a cracked screen and I needed to have it repaired. They were running a special on their website so after I told them what I needed, a simple registration was done and my screen was fixed with in 30 minutes with NO HASSLES and the best pricing around, (because of the holiday specials, but still). Not only that, it comes with 3 months no questions asked replacement warranty! All in all, extremely glad I went to this place, nothing but great things to say about the people who helped me, and the guy who fixed my phone promptly. If you need any screen fixing/​replacement, I would recommend this place with no hesitation. Happy Holidays all!

I called multiple times to set up an appointment with this place, and failed to every receive a telephone call back. When I finally ventured out to this place to get my phone fixed, their voicemail said nothing about where they were located in the mall. I had to ask three cellphone places before I found out they were actually the AT&T UNIQ MOBILE kisok. So already I’m not happy.
When I dropped off my phone, they warned me that about 5% of the population, the LCD screen breaks and would reveal that is is broken upon the removal of the touch screen. I decided to proceed. Luckily my phone was done on time.
HOWEVER, when I picked it up, the touch feature was delayed an on the entire screen, and the touch buttons near the bottom of the screen did not work at all. Additionall, there were scratches in the MIDDLE of my screen (extremely far away from the original damage) and the worker claimed that the scratches were on the LCD screen from the original damage. Then he changed his story and said the scratches appeared when he took the original glass off. I had to leave my phone for a second 1.5 hours for a repair from the original repair. I’m not hopeful. Will update after I pick up my phone.

These guys were great! They really go the extra mile on service and phone knowledge — plus they got me a great deal on my new iPhone. I will definitely use them again. In fact, I’ve already recommended them to my friends and family members who are interested in selling their old iPhones and upgrading.

Despite my earlier review, the screen stopped working about 10 days later, adn they refused to fix it. Horrible experience, in the end. Wasted money on the Groupon and a ton of time taking it back again and again, and waiting for it to NOT be fixed!

I read some of the negative reviews and I will say that my experience was excellent. I bought a Living Social Deal for a cracked iPhone 4S screen repair this past week. Immediately upon purchasing I called to make an appointment, hoping they could take me that day. I was in training for work that day right down the street from Ballston Commons so I ideally wanted to drop off my phone with them during lunch and pick it up newly repaired after the training. When I explained to the gentlemen who answered the phone (Luigi), he was extremely accommodating and squeezed me in for a lunch drop off time as I wanted. When I dropped off my phone with Luigi, he said it would be done by 5. Well when I ended up getting done with training early at 3:30 and called afterward to check the status, Luigi answered and said it was already repaired and ready to be picked up ahead of schedule…(even better) :)! Upon arriving there and checking out my good-​as-​new phone, Luigi asked me to check a few functions (volume button, camera, vibration to ringer switch, etc) to make sure that it was working properly. Needless to say, everything worked just as it did prior to dropping it off and the screen looked great… the technician did an awesome job! I would definitely use SPR Inc. again for cosmetic iPhone repairs again, as the whole process was seamless from the customer service to the actual repair. Just as a minor heads up though for those who also bought a Living Social deal, taxes are not included in the deal (which is clearly stated in the fine print of the deal) but they were only $ 2.50. I didn’t notice it when I bought the deal so I was surprised when I was asked to pay it upon pick up, but it is written there… no biggie!

I saw a groupon and figured I’d try this place out. I was able to get my iphone’s screen replaced within half an hour! The person behind the counter was super nice and professional. My phone has been working perfectly so far. I am very happy with the customer service and recommend this place!

I needed my screen fixed and fast. I can’t live a solid day without my phone and most places told me at least a day; that’s like saying live without the sun for the day (maybe a little over exaggeration with the whole sun equaling phone thing but you get the gist). I got in the store and was welcomed in. I showed them the problem, they then gave me some paper to fill out and told me they would give me call within a few hours. For $ 60 dollars I got my screen fixed and cleaned. They were great. I’m a clutz, so i’m sure I’ll be back — crosses finger.

UPDATE: I’ve added a star to this review as they did finally fix my iPad (the LCD screen was unavailable due to being back ordered, not entirely unavailable) and it looks and works as anticipated. They also were helpful trying to help me with two old iPhone 3GS phones that were broken and got one of them running again.
Because my experience was during their move, and their manager was out of town for a few weeks, I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. They are nice people and have done good work at a fair price… just in my instance they dropped the ball with several other things going on and were not as responsive as I would have liked.

I took my iPad 1 in to get an LCD screen replacement. I was told that they didn’t have the part they needed in stock and that they could order it if I paid for the part first. I was happy to pay the $ 80 to get the tablet fixed, but was told it would take a week to arrive.
A week later I called the store and nobody picked up. I called a second and third time the next day, nobody home. I was planning on stopping by the next afternoon, and finally got a hold of someone that morning who apologized and said they are in the process of changing locations and that they are a little backlogged, but assured me they had made the order and it should be arriving shortly.
Another week went by and I hadn’t heard from them. Over the next three weeks I called and intermittently reached someone who told me they’d have one of the techs call me. Not once did I get a return call. I decided turning up out of the blue was the only way to get this figured out.
When I arrived at the address (in a strip mall/​shopping center) the store name was nowhere to be found. I eventually discovered the shop in the back of an AT&T store they were now working out of. They told me the part was scheduled to arrive that day, but that the delivery person was still taking their shipments to the old location. «I’ll pick it up personally and you can pick it up tomorrow.»
Called the next day and nobody answered. The new store is far out the way of my normal commute and, due to the inconvenience, I continued to call over the next few days before deciding I’d give it one last shot and just appear at the store again. Today I got through on the phone…
The lady who picked up notified me that their vendor NO LONGER MAKES LCD SCREENS FOR THE iPAD 1. Are. You. Kidding. Me.
I don’t know that I’ve ever written a Unilocal review before… obviously I’ve made an exception for this one. Up to you to decide whether to give them your business.

My experience with Smart Phone Repair was horrible. My boss needed her iPad screen replaced and used the Groupon Smart Phone Repair offered. An appointment wasn’t necessary and I dropped the iPad off on a Tuesday, and was told it would be ready the next day. I was informed on Wednesday that they didn’t have the needed parts, but once they got them in it would be a one-​minute fix. Fast forward a week (!) and they still don’t have the parts in. I asked if my boss could have the iPad with the broken screen back and we could bring it back in when the parts arrived, but they had already taken the screen off and it wasn’t possible.
All told it took TWO WEEKS for my boss to get her repaired iPad back. The manager had no business taking the iPad when they didn’t have the parts to fix it and didn’t know when they would be coming in. It would have been perfectly acceptable to let me know they didn’t have the capacity to fix it now and I would have brought it in whenever they got the parts in. I understand a small business may get overrun by Groupon customers, but that is no reason to let your service suffer so badly.

I am really surprised by the negative reviews on here. I cracked my iPad screen about two weeks ago and called Apple to ask how much it would cost to replace and was told they didn’t give out price information over the phone (?). Then by chance yesterday I saw Smartphone was offering a deal on Groupon for screen repair. I called and spoke to a really nice guy who said he would be happy to do it that day. I brought it over, dropped it off, and was told it would be ready in an hour or two and they would call me. They called me in less than two hours and I picked up my iPad– it looks brand new. They did a great job for a FRACTION of what I would have paid at Apple (I did some research) and were able to see me much quicker than the genius bar. They could not have been a better service!!! I would recommend them to everyone!

In contrast to majority of the other reviews, I had an incredible experience using Smart Phone Repair, Inc.
I called at 5:30pm on a Friday (7÷27÷12) and was told it would only take an hour to perform my repair, however, a technician would only be available until 6pm so I would have to wait until Monday to pickup. I went ahead, dropped of at 6:15pm and, to my surprise, was told the technician had waited around for me and would be able to do the repair that same night. 30 Minutes later, my phone was fixed and back in pristine condition for a very reasonable cost.
For anyone looking to avoid the astronomical costs of going through the manufacturer directly, I’d recommend giving these guys a shot. Perhaps the Groupon overload caused some initial backlog but it appears they have everything in good shape now. Highly recommend!

Like other reviewers, I wish there were a negative-​star possibility. This is quite possibly the worst experience I have ever had with any business anywhere. Ever.
Like other reviewers, I purchased the Groupon for «iPhone 3G or 3GS repair.» Thinking that my son’s Touch 3G was basically the same, I brought it into the shop — to use with or without the Groupon. I was just so happy someone could help out a sad 10-​yr-​old with a cracked screen on his Touch.
What ensued was a 6-​week saga that included the following:
1) An appointment for drop off and repair that was «transferred» by them (whatever that means) and delay of repair on my son’s Touch. (No big deal. I’ll wait another week or so.)
2) At least 5 promises that they would call me – they never did.
3) At least 5 promises that I would have a repaired Touch returned to me as soon as the ordered part was received — it never was repaired.
4) Weekly phone messages that went unreturned.
5) Being hung up on when I asked why they couldn’t get the part and when I could have the Touch back.
6) 3 trips to the shop where, during POSTED business hours, they were locked and dark with no notice of when they would reopen. Details: This was on a Saturday at 3:20 pm. There were two other parties waiting with small children. One gentleman said he called before leaving Woodbridge with two young children and was told they were open until 8:00 pm. He arrived at 2:30 and the doors were locked. The other gentleman said he was physically pushed out of the door by the owner and told «go away. We’re closed.» I arrived at 3:20 and left at 4:30. There were 6 other people during that time who attempted to get into SMR and were turned away, shaking their heads. Even the security guard on duty told us that «he does this all the time.»
7) A voice message from the owner saying that they couldn’t «get the part» for my «iPad 1» so I should retrieve it. Note, I do not, nor have I ever owned an «iPad 1.»
8) Finally, this last Monday, I arrived when they were opened, retrieved the still-​broken Touch and was told they «don’t do those.» I asked why it was ever accepted in the first place and why nobody called and told me. The owner said «that’s a good question.» Hardly satisfying. I also conveyed my list of complaints and received nothing in return but a blank stare. No apology. No acknowledgement of responsibility.
Don’t reward this kind of poor business acumen and disrespect. Go somewhere that you can be treated with basic courtesy and the owner at least attempts to portray honesty and integrity.

I dropped my phone off yesterday for Groupon screen replacement and then sat down to read these reviews. You all scared me. But it went smoothly. Maybe cause the Groupon mad rush was over and them are not overwhelmed anymore?
Few things though:
–Took them 20 minutes to acknowledge me in the store patiently waiting…2 minutes to fill out a form and drop the phone off.
–She said she would call when it was done, she didn’t, no biggie. I called her.
–The main button is sunken in a little, the original felt flush with the glass screen cover. I have had many replaced and most of the aftermarket replacements screen do that, still works perfect so whatever.
Overall a decent experience and if the cost is only $ 60, I can live with that. A college kid charged me like $ 120 once (I am good at breaking shit) and did it in his basement… this feels safer.

I won’t get bogged down in the difficulty in getting an appointment or the day long delay in getting my iPad screen replaced, the attempts to drop off the iPad on days when they’re supposed to be open and simply aren’t, the patently obnoxious front desk help or the unreturned phone calls to the manager/​owner, what really drives this review is that they managed to scratch the digitizer on my iPad while replacing the screen and refuse to fix it. Thanks for irreperably damaging my iPad, Smart Phone Repair!

I would give this place negative stars if I could. I was SO disappointed with the poor customer service I received from this cell phone repair shop. This review is long, but thorough! If you want the short version, it’s: This place sucks, go to WiGo.
I purchased the Groupon to fix my cracked cell phone screen. As noted on the Groupon, an appointment needed to be made. I called the day before the Groupon became active and asked if I could come in on the first day the Groupon became active (a Sunday). The woman on the phone said that would not be a problem, and that I could come in at noon, when the store opened [Please note, on the doors and their Facebook page, it says they open at 11 on Sundays]. She then said I would be able to pick up my phone on Monday if I dropped it off at noon on Sunday. I arrived there right at noon, and the location was closed (there was also no sign on the location). I thought someone might be out grabbing lunch so I then waited for a half an hour and no one came. I was definitely frustrated, but I couldn’t wait longer so I left.
I called the store the next day as soon as they opened and I explained what had happened. I was offered no apology, but the woman on the phone (Lisa) said I could come in that day. I asked if because I was told I could get the phone on Monday if I had dropped it off on Sunday, if I could pick it up that same day. She stated that they did not have the part, but that I could drop it off any time on Monday and pick it up on Tuesday. I asked if I needed an appointment and she said I could come in any time that day. I reiterated, «So I could come in any time today?» and she said yes. And I asked, «And then I will be able to pick it up on Tuesday?» and she said yes. I said that was great, and that I would leave work during the day to come and drop it off.
When I got there, I was asked to wait while they checked on the part. I said that I had already spoken with someone on the phone and had been informed that the part was to come in on Tuesday. They asked me to still wait so they could double-​check. While I was waiting the THIRTY MINUTES, I saw two other people come in and ask for quotes on their phones. The prices are not posted anywhere, and the first girl who asked was able to negotiate down. The second guy had the same phone as me and was quoted a price of $ 70. I pointed out to him that my Groupon said it was a $ 60 value for that phone type, and he mentioned this to the woman who then said, «Ok I could do it for $ 60.» I don’t think a place should be charging different people different prices for the same service, and making up prices on the spot.
Finally 30 minutes later, I was told that they could make me an appointment for Friday. I explained that I was the person that had called earlier, and when I had spoken to Lisa on the phone, she had informed me that I could bring the phone in any time that day and pick it up the next day, on Tuesday. The woman looked at me and said «No, that didn’t happen. I don’t have an appointment down in your name.» I calmly explained again the phone call and the woman (who was the same woman that I spoke with) said «No, I didn’t say that.» I was flabbergasted. It is one thing to say there might have been a miscommunication, but she was calling me outright a liar. I said, «Listen, I’m really frustrated because this is the second day that I’ve come here, I took time out of my work day and came over here from DC because you told me to come any time today, and I really don’t appreciate being told that I made up a phone conversation that actually happened.» The woman just looked at me blankly so I told her I would be taking my business elsewhere.
Long story short, I went across the street to Wigo Cell Phone Repair and they were AMAZING. They fixed the phone that day (without an appointment) and the guy was SO friendly. I had mentioned I might have to come the next day b/​c I didn’t know if I could make it by closing time and he even said he would stay late for me if I could get there a half an hour past closing. They were efficient, my phone looks great, and the price was cheaper than Smart Phone Repair, Inc. But most importantly, they valued me as a customer and provided great service.
I contacted Groupon and got a refund the very next day. I know this is a new business, but they will fail if they continue with this kind of service. Luckily, WiGo can scoop up all their upset customers!
