Red Top Cab

I made a reservation online and called to confirm about 6 hours before the time I needed to taxi. I needed to go to the airport so it was important that the taxi arrived on time, however, 15 min after my scheduled pickup, the taxi still had not arrived, I ended up calling an Über.

I made a reservation to get to the airport early in the morning from PG county, MD.
On the day of departure, they called me at around 1:10 AM to say that they aren’t allowed to come to my county.
Seriously, if your company can’t come to PG county, then say it on your website, and give me an error message after I submit my address.
It’s completely ridiculous that you called me at 1:10 AM. A few hours before my reservation time? And woke me up for all this?

Horrible service, shows up 15 minutes late and doesn’t even come to the proper address. Picks me up on the Main Street so I can flag him down. Dispatch is no help in locating him or giving him proper directions. Cab 41 admits he didn’t know where he was or supposed to be but says he can’t do anything about it and it’s not his fault. Again customer service manager John Adams is no help and says the he can’t do anything to get the cab to the right address. They take no ownership of there mistake at 4:50am when people are trying to catch a flight. This is why über will put them out of business.

I decided to take the cab to DCA. Why, you ask? Because Über stresses me, they always get lost when picking me up. And, because of this, they pick me up late and I’m über annoyed. So, I’ve returned to Red Top Cab.
On time, picked me up on my street, right in front of my door. They never failed me pre-​Über, they didn’t fail me this time either. I’m back, RTC!
No bells, no whistles. Quick easy ride to DCA. My driver was friendly, not too talkative. Just how I like ‘em.

In the age of Über, I have not been in the habit of pre-​scheduling cabs. However I had an early morning appointment I could not be late to. I scheduled a taxi on the Red Top website and got a confirmation number. I received text messages the next morning to tell me when my taxi was dispatched, arriving and when it arrived. My taxi came on time, knew where my destination was and had it plugged in to his navigation system. The cab was clean and the driver was polite.
I got to my appointment early enough to write this review. I will download the Red Top app and will use it when I need a taxi at a specific time and don’t want to take my chances with a ride sharing company not being available when I need them.

Red Top sucks! I called last night to request taxi to Reagan airport to be picked up at 9:45am. When the taxi had not arrived at 10:20am, I called Über. Driver arrived in 4 minutes and I made my flight… just barely. The most important feature of taxi service, especially to airports, is on time arrival. I will never use Red Top again.

The year isn’t halfway over yet and I’ve managed to lock myself out of my car 3 times! Early onset Alzheimer’s or just really distracted? Not sure.
If you ever find yourself locked out of your car near the Arlington area, consider Red Top Cab! This company not only provide taxi services but they can also unlock your car… for $ 40!!! I am unsure of the extent of their radius, but they arrived within 15 minutes to Alexandria and got my car unlocked in 5 minutes max. Red Top Cab is fast and cheap compared to the local locksmiths that quoted me $ 100-​$ 150 with an estimated arrival time that’s 4x longer!!!
Red Top Cab also offer text message updates and allow you to conveniently check the cab’s progress en route— a feature that I love & something that you don’t often get when hiring a locksmith.

Legit cabs. Polite driver, on time, friendly, clean car, accepts credit cards.
Not anything like the shitty cab I’m currently being hauled around in, Washington cab co or something. Nice guy but, uck this cab ride blows.

I made a reservation a couple of days in advance for an early morning ride to the airport some weeks ago. After waiting and waiting on Red Top, I finally called them to see where my taxi was. They said they’d suspended service for the mere dusting of snow on the ground. Worse, they couldn’t be bothered to notify me, nor did a manager call me as requested when I complained. I probably used them for 20 trips last year, but apparently that’s all for naught!
To add insult to injury, I passed no fewer than three of their cabs when I finally drove myself to the airport. Never again, Red Top. I’ll take my business elsewhere.

Love the app! The driver showed up, as promised. It was very easy to use and the driver was friendly despite the incredibly early hour.

My husband reserved a cab online the night before his 5 am departure for the airport the following day. He received a confirmation email that night. The next morning he called at 4:50 am to confirm and they said the cab was on its way. At 5:10 he called and was put on hold, then at 5:20 realizing he would miss his flight if he kept waiting, he got in the car and drove to the airport. He was on hold all during this time until 6:00 am. The operator then said that the cab was on its way. 1+ hours late. He obviously canceled the cab. Thanks for nothing, Red Top!

Sadly Red Top is no longer the reliable cab company of days gone by. Taxi drivers aren’t expected to be friendly nor to be familiar with the local neighborhoods. The smartphone app is interesting but quirky, and you’re probably better off just calling by phone or using another company. That’s what I’ll do until Red Top gets their act back together and returns to the great company they once were. With all the competition nowadays from Über and similar car sharing services, you would expect Red Top would be at the top of their game, but unfortunately that’s not the case.

If it were possible to give negative 5 starts I WOULD !!! An Elderly customer of ours sat and waited for OVER AN HOUR and no cab. when we called back, the dispatchers says with a chuckle «Oh, someone jumped into your cab». What type of customer service is this? And the kicker… once the cab finally arrived… he actually didn’t arrive, he made a U turn in the parking lot and turned around and left!!! SERIOUSLY!!! So i called back. it was not only raining but very windy, the cab finally came back. Needless to say, we will not be recommending or hailing anymore RED TOP CABS for our clients. Your customer service skills are beyond lacking

I made a reservation for a flight from DCA at 4:50 in the morning. A driver never showed or called. I had to call and was at that point informed that a driver hadn’t picked up so no one was coming.
Seems like if you make a reservation, it means someone is coming. Otherwise I should be informed it’s a possibility I may have to find alternate transportation prior to when I’m supposed to have a ride.
Thanks to Über I was able to get to my flight on time. I won’t deal with Red Top again and will always use Über.

Don’t even think about it if you need to be somewhere on time. Definitely use Über instead. This used to be the most reliable taxi company in the D.C. area but no more. I placed a time call for a cab 24 hours in advance through their website. Received a nice email confirmation too. Time set for cab comes and goes. No cab. Twenty minutes pass no cab. This was for a trip to DCA to catch a plane. What an outrage! Turned out that dispatch never placed a call for a cab.
Their sedan service is fine. Cars impeccable and always arrive early. But forget the cab service. Now no better than the Third World.

BE VERY WARY of using this cab company!!!
I took a cab from Don Titos to El Pollo Rico on May 12, 2015 and it is only 0.74 miles away and should’ve been $ 5 – 6. I gave $ 1 tip on my card and I just checked my CC and the driver changed it to $ 10!

I didn’t keep the receipt so I can’t contest it but wanted to WARN others that they are scammers and either keep your receipt or pay in cash.
I would give zero stars if I could!

One year later… still zero stars.
I had booked a cab through a different cab company to take me to the airport this morning, but they didn’t have anyone available so they very kindly called me a Red Top (now that’s service!).
Red Top quoted them 10 minutes to pick me up. 10 minutes later, I called Red Top and asked what the deal was. They told me in a roundabout fashion that no one had accepted the assignment yet (note: no snow or inclement weather of any kind anywhere in sight).
I said, «Just so I’m sure that I understand you — there is no cab on the way, even though you told [other cab company] that you would pick me up in 10 minutes?»
They confirmed this and then told me to call back if no one had come to pick me up in another 5 minutes. This makes NO sense to me for more than one reason:
1. Shouldn’t they be able to see if someone had picked me up via their system?
2. They obviously have no way of forcing a cab driver to accept an assignment.
3. Ergo, what will calling them back in 5 minutes do?
So, I called an Über. The Über arrived in a timely fashion and I called Red Top back as I was getting into it to let them know that they sucked and I had called an Über since they obviously aren’t reliable, so they could cancel my reservation.
Not sure why they called me again as I was going through airport security, but I really had no interest in talking to them again, so I didn’t pick up. My sense of schadenfreude is well-​served by assuming that their completely inept staff failed to cancel the reservation, despite my taking the time to call them and ask them to do so, and some cab driver sat outside my building for 10 minutes before realizing he should find another cab company to work for.
TL;DR: Red Top got a completely undeserved, unintentional second chance with me purely because a different cab company actually knows the meaning of the phrase «customer service». They still f***ed it up. If you’re thinking of using Red Top, CALL AN UBER INSTEAD. At least then you can see where your car is and when it will arrive.
Über may be causing the downfall of traditional cab companies, but Red Top has dug itself such a deep hole that it’s not exactly hard for Über to kick the dirt back in. Also, for anyone curious, the first cab company I called was Envirocab and they’re usually quite good.

I have only had one experience with this service and it was a good one. The driver was on time and very helpful, despite having a hard time finding my pick up point (which is partially my fault since the area I was being picked up from didn’t exist 6 months ago). He was professional and courteous following the proper procedures for any cab driver.
The online ordering of cabs is what sold me, plus other cab services were pricier and wouldn’t bring me to Terminal B of DCA. I received a rough estimate of the cost (which was within $ 1 of what the final cost was without tip). They showed the most likely route I would be taking. It was a quick and painless process.
About 15 – 30 minutes before pickup you receive a text message with your car number and that they are on their way. Shortly before their arrival (approximately five minutes) you will receive another text message to come outside and to text the number «1» once you are outside.
Credit card or cash, it is up to you (credit card is easier).

Last week we had a most unwelcome March snowstorm which dropped 4 – 5 inches on Arlington. Most of the flights were cancelled but my evening flight to warm and sunny Florida somehow survived. Since Arlington was an icy, snowy, slushy disaster I called Red Top for a quick ride to DCA. After being on hold for 25 minutes (and the Curb app failing me as well) I received a text that due to extremely high call volume, they were unable to take my order. With that, I had to quickly navigate Siberia to the Metro dragging my suitcase in hand.
Thanks for nothing, Red Top. If I had waited on you I’d have missed my flight. When Metro is a more reliable transit option that’s beyond pathetic! Epic fail.

Need a car at 4:30am next day for a flight at DCA. I make a reservation online. Call to check it’s confirmed.
4:35am: no cab. Call red top.
Guy: you should receive a call from your driver shortly. Cab on its way.
4:40am: Still no cab. Call red top.
Lady: looks like there’s still no cab assigned to you. You need to call and check when you don’t get your cab in time.
Me: I did, five minutes ago. And yesterday.
Me: You understand the whole point of me reserving a car is that the car is there and I dont have to call, especially three times now?
Lady: I understand.
Cancel car. Get über. Write trashy review on way to airport hoping to not miss flight.
