Description

Specialties

We are not the traditional Chinese restaurant. We serve some of the same dishes, but we use updated ingredients. Better cuts of meat, higher quality seafoods, etc. Also, we have a dining room that’s urbanly modern, featuring a long full-service bar with a global wine list, 70+ bottled beers, sake, and spirits. Finally, our best hidden-gem is our top-notch sushi bar. Fresh, beautiful fish by a 14-yr sushi chef veteran that rivals the best in DC, but with less attitude at less expense.

History

Established in 1987.

From 1987 — 2007, we were Charlie Chiang’s — built in the traditional fashion of good food and mysterious service. Through these years, we’ve been successful, catering for multiple president’s inaugurations and embassy functions galore. After 20 years in one of the toughest industries out there, we’ve re-invented ourselves.

In 2008, we became PING, bringing us into the modern age. Now, we are above par compared to your impersonal chains and on par with your local favorite success stories. Beautiful dining room, Western style servers, quality ingredients, super selection of beverages, and inventive dishes. We are a different look but still uphold the beliefs and ideals that have made us succeed for 20+ years.

Meet the Business Owner

Christiana C.

Business Owner

Born in Xian, China at a time of huge civil unrest and danger, Christiana escaped with her parents to Taiwan where she grew up. Always artistically inclined, she dreamed of being an artist, while her father pushed her into business. After marrying Charles Chiang, together they moved to Chicago for Charlie to pursue his doctorate in O-Chem. Quickly those plans were derailed, when the two were asked to help a friend out in DC with his restaurant business.

In less than a year, they were bitten by the restaurant bug and in ’73, they started their own businesses. Christiana ran the front, Charlie took care of the back, and Christiana’s father became the executive chef. It’s been a family affair, ever since. With a youthful look and a spirit that belies her age, she floats around the restaurant welcoming and talking to diners. She takes pride in the dishes she’s carefully designed and works the room in a presidential manner. Come visit. She’s always ready to meet new people.
