Nunez Ignacio MD OB GYN

Can’t say enough about Dr. Nunez ! Love him, so glad I found him! He answers all my questions and doesn’t make me feel silly Abouty concerns. I moved to dfw area recently and I was not looking forward to the process of finding a new Gyno. He is wonderful!

This is not a review of the doctor but of the practice itself, and being new to the area, I was guided by another review.
The clinic is located in a questionable part of town. As soon as I entered, I was promptly scolded for being 15 minutes early instead of 30 minutes early. Then she demanded my credit card so that she could charge a $ 50 deposit & gave me some forms.
As I was filling out the forms, I realized that the staff seemed agitated and miserable. They acted like they did not want to be there. Then an image of an angry nurse with a speculum performing a pap smear popped in my head. I immediately got up and told them to keep the deposit and left.
I don’t think they’re bad people. Maybe they just feel under-​appreciated at work and unloved at home. Why else would they be so abrasive?

As someone who has sadly had a number of health issues to deal with throughout her life, I’ve had *a lot* of doctors. I wouldn’t say I am really hard on them for the most part, I’ve had some good ones, some great ones, some terrible ones and some mediocre ones. Dr. Nunez is way up at the top of the list for a whole bunch of reasons. If you need a gynecologist (he doesn’t do OB anymore) and especially if you need a gynecological surgeon who is daVinci robot certified and very experienced in the procedure, Dr. Nunez is who you want to go see.
I had my first appointment several months ago after a recurrence of issues that had been plaguing me on and off my whole life. Without going into vast detail, my options for how to work around them were becoming more limited based on other health issues that I have. My first appointment lasted over an hour, where Dr. Nunez took a ton of time talking to me not just about my gynecological history but all of my medical history. He asked really good questions, truly wanted to understand ‘the big picture’ of my health so he could figure out what the options and best solutions for me would be. Beyond that, he actually requested copies of the hospital report from my previous gynecological surgeries and reports from my gastroenterologist and hepatologist so he could have as much info as possible.
From the surgical report he discovered that a previous doctor had lied to me about what procedure she had performed on me (I kid you not), which led to a lot of frustration and confusion about why it ‘hadn’t worked’. He also got the information he needed about my other conditions and he formulated and went over with me in a subsequent appointment what all my options were, and what options we had to cross off the list based on my other issues. I was left with three choices in addition to the «do nothing» option and he went over with me what the risks and possible rewards and likeliness of success of all the various options, and left it to me to choose. I ended up choosing hysterectomy, and as luck would have it Dr. Nunez is not only daVinci robot certified but he does the procedure frequently and is very good at it.
In my pre-​op visit he went over everything I should expect, and as all docs are required to everything that could possibly go wrong (but tempered with telling me how many times that particular thing had actually gone wrong for him, which was usually 0 – 1, so I wouldn’t panic). The surgery was done at Arlington Memorial and I stayed in the women’s services unit or something like that.
I have to tell you, that despite my total confidence in Dr. Nunez I was skeptical that the surgery and recovery could go as easily as he told me it would… but he was right. The level of bruising I had abdominally was far less than with the laparascopy the lying doctor had done, and I was able to get up by myself by late that night (with some pain, but not total misery). As he reported there were four small incisions, the incisions themselves did not hurt. I spent the night in hospital and went home the next day around lunch time. Although he’d prescribed Lortabs, I was able to switch to Ibuprofen only by day 3 and be ok with my pain levels … wow, that’s just unheard of for abdominal surgery. It has now been 9 days since the surgery. I still have some pain and I still am taking some ibuprofen but not as much and not as often. I was able to start working part time just 5 days after the surgery, I’ll go back to full time next week. I am guessing it will be a couple weeks til the pain is completely gone but it is very manageable now. I had my first post-​op visit on Weds, where I was cleared for driving and we talked again about what he’d found, he showed me pics of my insides (yummy) and wanted to address any problems I was having (nothing major).
No one likes having surgery, myself included, but seriously, I can’t imagine a major surgery like a hysterectomy going any smoother than this one did. Dr. Nunez is a terrific surgeon, a compassionate and thorough clinician and he gets my highest recommendation. I’m so glad I randomly picked him from all the names in the sea of the insurance company website.
