The Lutheran College Washington Semester, also known as LCWS, was founded in 1986 by a core group of Lutheran colleges to provide a quality residential Washington, DC semester exclusively for their students.
The Lutheran College Washington Semester is a small, personalized program where you live, study, and intern while earning academic credit from one of our member institutions of higher education. Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters are offered, with classes being taught in the Fall and the Spring. Students attend internships on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays with events being held on Wednesdays.

The Lutheran College Washington Semester (LCWS) was created by a core group of Lutheran colleges to provide a quality residential Washington, DC semester exclusively for their students.
In addition to the three founding colleges — Muhlenberg, Gettysburg, and Roanoke — ten additional colleges are members of the LCWS. They are: Augustana College (SD), California Lutheran University, Concordia College (MN), Concordia University Chicago, Lenoir-Rhyne University, Luther College, Susquehanna University, Thiel College, Valparaiso University, and Wittenberg University. Originally located in downtown DC, LCWS moved to Arlington, VA in 1998 having purchased student condominiums at River Place Apartments in Rosslyn. LCWS also has office space, classrooms, computer lab, and multi-use space located at this same location.

Nancy J.
Manager
Dr. Nancy Joyner is a native of New Orleans. She earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology with High Honor from Southeastern Louisiana University and received Southeastern’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1979. Dr. Joyner left Louisiana to earn a Master’s degree in international Affairs from Florida State University where she was a university fellow. In 1970 – 71, Dr. Joyner volunteered for service in Vietnam as a Program Director for the USO outside of Saigon. Upon her return, she was named Outstanding Young Woman of Louisiana.
After completing her doctorate of philosophy degree in government at Florida State University, she was a lobbyist for women’s rights, including equal pay for equal work, the Equal Rights Amendment, and Title IX legislation to give equitable treatment to women and men in education sports, and other educational programs.
