Saw Dr Khalil today and he did a great job as usual in addition to all other staff. I would highly recommend.

It has been a couple of weeks since I visited this office. It is a very modern and staff are very nice that is why you will get two stars.
I recommend everyone visiting this practice to make sure to get a second opinion since they do really try to sell a lot of unnecessary treatments.

Wow, cannot say enough good things about Dr. Khalil! I have gone through 2 other Arlington dentists in the past 1.5 years and I have finally found «the one»!
I called and the receptionist was detailed and explained what I needed to do before the appointment. She also asked if I had a particular issue that needed to be addressed and made a note of it.
Cleaning: very thorough. The hygienist walked me through everything, showed me around, and went through all my old records. Very thorough and helpful with all my questions. They have the latest technology. I told her that I had trouble with one tooth and she took detailed x-​rays of it. They have headsets to communicate to each other. She finished my cleaning and asked through her headset if Dr. Khalil was ready for me before taking me to the other exam room.
Dr. Khalil arrived to look at my affected tooth. He took a camera that looked like a pen and took a close up of the tooth. Right away, he could see that the filling was cracked. He gave me a thorough explanation of what he would do to fix it and even an estimate of how long it would take. He was careful not to overly criticize the previous dentist who did the filling but he showed me the crack, as well another issue with the filling, which is all I needed to know that the previous dentist did a hack job.
Filling: I scheduled my filling with Dr. Khalil. I’m a recovering dental-​phobe, so the numbing is an extremely anxiety ridden experience for me. I don’t know what he used to pre-​numb my mouth, but the needles didn’t hurt at all! I was so impressed and I told him so. Once I was numb, Dr. Khalil went to work. He told me what he was doing at each step. He fixed my filling in no time and, unlike the previous dentist, I had no issues with my bite being too high. I told him that I had problems with the bite before and Dr. Khalil was quite confident that I wouldn’t have any issues. He was right! It was such an easy experience!
Customer service: The staff who works for Dr. Khalil are also very friendly and very attentive.
Cons: The only two complaints I have is that it is rather difficult to find a good time slot with Dr. Khalil unless you book in advance. They are very busy and popular (with good reason). Also, for appointment reminders, they call a week in advance, then text, and then an email. (Probably because of the 4-​day cancellation policy.) A little too much, in my opinion. I got a text for a reminder one morning, which asks to call to confirm. I didn’t have time to do it right away but intended to as soon as I could. About two hours later, the receptionist called me to remind me again. It was a little excessive.
But overall: I love this practice! Top notch and the best in Arlington in my opinion!

I don’t recommend Arlington Dentistry by Design. My experience is that they’re are not very professional, they are not upfront about treatments, they are pushy and they are not clear about what they are going to charge for your visit.
In the initial consultation, Dr. Cho acted like an orthodontist, when he is not actually one (my mistake for not double checking before going, but I was mislead by the fact that in Unilocal they are classified as «orthodontists»). I went in because of TMJ. Dr. Cho said that before we could proceed with braces, I should go visit Dr. Bukzin, an oral surgeon, to get a 3-​D scan of my mouth, so that he could more accurately move my teeth with braces.
I went to see Dr. Bukzin and he said he doesn’t do that type of scans, but that he could send me to a place in Richmond or Philadelphia where they do. Also, he said that the best thing was probably surgery, which Dr. Cho had said was not the best option. Lastly, Dr. Bukzin said that braces would probably not solve my TMJ problem. He said all of this without having any background of my particular situation or any x-​rays of my jaw. After the consultation, in which the only thing he did was make me open my mouth a couple of times to see the movement of my jaw, he charged me a large amount of money. I was very disappointed.
On my second visit to Dr. Cho, I told him what had happened at Dr. Bukzin’s office. His response was that he was no longer referring patients to Dr. Bukzin and that sometimes professionals like him think they can get away with charging a lot for not doing anything.
During this same visit, I found out that Dr. Cho is not an orthodontist (nor is anyone in that office, it seems). He said he would advise me to go see an orthodontist because he couldn’t help me. I asked him if I should go get the 3-​D scan before I went to see the orthodontist and he said that the 3-​D scan actually wouldn’t help and that it wasn’t necessary. I was bewildered.
Also, on my second visit, I was only going for a teeth cleaning. I made myself very clear before I went in. They said they needed to perform several x-​rays in order to do a more in-​depth cleaning. I declined the x-​rays (even thought they kept insisting that I get them done) and said that my budget was what they had told me the oral hygiene was over the phone. Nevertheless, after the visit, they charged me $ 130 more than what they had first quoted me. It was very annoying. The woman at the front desk apologized for the «misunderstanding.» What misunderstanding? I had specifically told Sophia (a dental assistant) what my budget was and that I didn’t want anything done that would be more than that.
I will not be returning (or referring anyone) to their practice.

Arlington Dentistry by Design is fantastic. The staff is friendly, understanding, and helpful and always on time. I have never waited more than a few minutes for my appointment. The hygienists and dentists are great and I have never had a bad experience. I actually look forward to my dental appointments!

Today I just had a root canal. A would’ve been terrible experience was a very good one. At no point in the whole procedure did I feel any pain. And after the numbness still no pain. This is why, along with being a great dentist and having great support staff, is why I have decided to write my first Unilocal review. Dr Khalil is without a doubt one of the best dentist I have ever encountered. He is friendly, personable, and leads you step by step explaining the procedure. Sophia the dental technician was also superb — she has a zest for life and work and balances the two with a very caring persona. I went from the worst dental experience at another DC dentist to the best. I am very grateful and will return for many years to come. I have found my Dentist Office!

Disclaimer (sorry), but I don’t like the dentist. I used to go to a very small, 2 seat office, with that dental office smell, and no windows…
but not here! From the moment you walk in, you could be walking into a spa. The receptionists are all smiling, everyone is wonderful and friendly, I’ve always been offered a cup of water if I have to wait more than 2 minutes.
They send out reminder texts and emails– and all you have to do is click to confirm.
They’re located right off the orange line, so it’s extremely convenient if you metro into the office. Additionally, there’s a small parking garage, where you could park if you drive.
All the equipment is modern, high tech stuff. (ie. no more drooling since the suction thing just sits there awaiting your saliva and super fast xrays (all on the computer)). Lots of windows allow for sunlight, so you don’t feel like you’re in the middle of a closet. They provide sun glasses, so your not blinded by the light.
I’ve had great teeth cleaning experiences here by different hygienists. All were great.
On your way out, they even give you a goody bag– travel size floss, toothpaste, and mouth rinse– oh so appreciated for traveling.
I always recommend this dentist to my coworkers/​friends who move into the area.

My favorite dentist to date! From the moment I started attending this office nearly 2 years ago, I felt welcomed and «at home» like everyone had always known me. The staff are incredibly friendly and genuinely kind. Beyond this, the services I have received have been extremely professional and well done. I have had cavities filled here, cleanings done, fluoride treatments, etc. and everything has always been fantastic. I can’t rave about this dentist enough and am constantly making referrals to everyone else in my office since I know they will all be happy with the services they receive from Arlington Dentistry by Design! Also, there is a $ 30 referral credit received by both the referee and referrer (I love this!). Finally, they do an awesome job of reminding you of appointments so that they never go forgotten. Definitely give it a try if you want super healthy teeth and a smile on your face when you leave. :)

The first time I came to this office, it was for my 4 year old son’s first check-​up. This practice doesn’t specialize in kids, but really, a pediatric dental office just has more tvs, right? Anyway, I was hoping that my son would be ok and not only was my son excited about seeing the dentist, but the staff was really good about talking to him and explaining what they were doing and what they needed to do. Dr. Khalil really took the time to talk to me about my son’s teeth and answered my questions, which was great since this was my first ever appointment as a parent and not a patient. After that, I made appointments for myself and my husband. We found our new family dentist — yay! I switched dentists because I moved and while I liked my last dentist just fine, it’s the little details at Dr. Khalil’s office that make the difference, like the difference between Macy’s and Nordstroms. Macy’s is nice but Nordstroms is NICER. For example, at my last dentist’s office, the office was clean and the staff was professional but every time I went for my cleaning and I got my little bag of toothpaste and toothbrush, they never gave me floss. I would ask for it and every time I was told that they ran out or they never received any. That really annoyed me. Seriously, how hard is it for a dentist to have floss? Here, I’m pretty sure Dr. Khalil’s office would never run out of anything since they seem to run a pretty tight ship. Everyone and everything about the office is super professional and super clean. Before my appointment, I got multiple reminders via text message and email, which was nice. When I arrived for my morning appointment, the receptionist wasn’t at the desk (staff meeting) but when she came out, she was offering people water and checking them in. Nice! The dental hygienist that cleaned my teeth took the time to tell me how I could take better care of my teeth and my cleaning was pretty painless. I’ve only seen Dr. Khalil (knowledgeable, friendly) but my husband’s seen Dr. Cho and gives him 2 thumbs up, too. Also, I’ve only had dental cleanings so I can’t comment on more complicated procedures.
bottom line: the office is pretty deluxe. the staff is professional. dr. khalil knows his stuff and has great bedside manner (or whatever kind of manner that dentists have.) highly recommend for adults and kids!

I just had my first visit at Dr. Khalil’s office (with Dr. Cho actually) and couldn’t be happier. I hadn’t been to the dentist in years because of a pretty horrible experience, but the staff at Dr. Khalil’s office immediately made me feel comfortable. They were extremely friendly and easy to talk to. They offered really thorough explanations of any issues I had with my teeth and calmed my fears. The cleaning and fillings I received were top notch as well — relatively quick and painless. Most importantly, the staff is great about getting you in and out promptly, so it’s perfect for lunchtime appointments!

Excellent! Great staff — helpful with insurance and all other questions. Great dentist — takes the time to talk to you and ensures everything is done right.

I’ve been coming to this practice since 2007 and love it, the latter is hard to say about dentistry. Dr. Khalil and his staff have always been about prevention and maintenance. The office, old and new is state of the art and clean. Appointments are seen promptly and there is never a wait. You pay up front for the service, but they file the claim timely so that your reimbursement from insurance arrives quickly. Tip and Sheila at front desk are the nicest people.

Dr. Joe ((Khalil) is my new Dentist… I am 70. The man loves dentistry and it shows… he’s a true artist. Today, he installed a crown on my tooth that was scheduled to be pulled and replaced by another endodontist. BOTTOM LINE: He saved my tooth and did painless, well explained work on it. My wife and I feel blessed that Dr. Joe and his OUTSTANDING STAFF are our partners in our dental health.

I have been going to Dr. Khalil and previously Dr. Lillard (Dr. Lillard retired) for years and they are easily the best dentists I have ever had. I have gotten regular cleanings, bondings, a crown, and teeth bleaching. They are very kind, professional, and perform the highest quality dentistry. As an aside, their new office location is convenient and upscale.

I love everything about this place. The staff is super nice. Dr. Khalil is an all-​star. And the location is convenient.
I’m a total wuss with going to the dentist, and Dr. Khalil and his assistants always make me feel comfortable and I never feel any pain. All of their equipment is high tech, but what really matters at the end of the day is the quality of the work, and that is top notch. Highly recommended.

This is the best dental practice I’ve been to, and I’ve had the misfortune of being to quite a few. I called with some jaw pain, and Dr. Khalil was able to see me a couple of days later. He recommended a night guard, and didn’t pressure me at all to get one custom made (very $$$), saying I could try an over-​the-​counter one first if I wanted. I opted to just go for the custom, and he offered to let me pay for it over 3 months. Perfect.
Everyone on staff is really friendly and helpful, the waiting area is very nice, and the wait time is short. I look forward to making Dr. Khalil my regular dentist going forward.
I’ve also seen Dr. Cho, who is also excellent. He performed a root canal and an apicoectomy on me, and I had total confidence in his work. He made me feel very comfortable with the procedures, despite my anxiety about them. I would recommend this practice to anyone I know.

One year and several appointments later, I’m still over-​the-​moon about this dental practice. If there were a way to give Dr. Khalil and his team at Dentistry by Design six stars, I would.

I hate teeth; I think they’re stupid! Being African I’ve always had a naturally pretty set of chompers – no braces or retainers needed. But I also loved candy and stringy meat, so there was a whole mess of oddities happening in my mouth hole.
It took me several years to get my teeth in order, and by the time I did, I was thoroughly scared of dentists. However, I’d already invested beaucoup bucks in my grill so I knew I had to maintain them, like an adult.
Enter Arlington Dentistry. It’s literally one block from my apartment building in Courthouse so that’s a mega plus. The staff is always courteous and professional. They remember me each time – or at least they do a good job of pretending to remember me. I never have to wait in the waiting room for more than 5mins.
I don’t know how dentists work, but I have one regular woman (Dara) who cleans my teeth and lectures me. She’s young and fun, and each visit I keep hoping she’ll ask me to be BFFs. But she gets in there and does a thorough job.
Then Dr. Joe comes in – I guess he’s the head guy. He checks her work and makes sure nothing insane is happening. So if this dentist office were like Grey’s Anatomy, Dara would be Meredith Grey, and Dr. Joe would be Baily.
I love this practice because everything is no pressure (I have you read some of the reviews for other practices!!!). I chipped a back tooth awhile ago and on my first visit Dr. Joe told me that I should probably get it filled, but that I could also just be really diligent about flossing and keeping it clean and they would just monitor it (that was 4 visits ago). Also, I’ve had this wonky whole in my gum since high school and NO dentists has ever even commented on it. Dr. Joe diagnosed the problem, determined it wasn’t that big of a deal, but offered a procedure to correct it.
Dental insurance is for suckers, so I pay OOP for it all. They’re really good about working with me – like they’ll give me a dental plan of action and the cost breakdown so I can kind of choose what I can afford in the future and budget for it. Also, they give free goodie bags after each visit (maybe it’s built into the price) but it’s nice because I haven’t had to buy floss or a toothbrush in like, 2 yrs.
Finally, this place takes appointments at 7:30am. I don’t even have to take time off from work. Luvs it!
