Gold’s Gym

It’s a pretty big gym with various facilities and options in terms of machines, free weights, and classes. The people here (patrons) don’t clean up after themselves so plates are all over the damn place. That said, I don’t really see any staff members organizing the weights so both parties can share the blame on that one. My biggest must have at a gym is a squat rack and they have 3 of various designs not including the 2 smith machines. I think that’s respectable. The facility itself is right in the middle in terms of cleanliness so with all those factors into consideration, I think a 3-​star score is fair. I will append this review when I go during peak hours. The parking lot might be a bit too small for this particular strip mall so we’ll see how it plays out.

I just became a member of the gym and it’s a nice gym. They have weights and stuff. You can pick them up and you can put them down. I enjoy the neighborhood. Everyone trying to better themselves is always a great atmosphere. One suggestion make one day a week where your not allowed to wear headphones and you have a Dj come in and spin! That would be pretty dope. Thanks guys

I have been going to this gym for over 10 years and have tried all the other Gold’s in the metro area from Bowie, MD to Annandale, VA and all those in Arlington. Have also tried those in Florida and Colorado. Haven’t been to a better gym in any chain at this price point. They have by far the best equipment (not the best possible but the best in any gym I have been too). The gym floor stays clean and the equipment is pretty well kept up. I especially like this gym because there are plenty of free weight stations, they have a glute/​ham machine (rare) and they have a reverse hyperextension machine (unheard of). Now, if they just add a neck station, some more plates at strategic spots, and a more regular cleaning in the men’s bathroom, it would be close to perfect.

I joined Gold’s gym on 3 March 2016 and I signed up for 4 personal trainer lessons because I wanted to workout the right way and I made it clear to Mr. Armond Hill that I needed personal trainer sessions. Mr. Hill scheduled my session for 7 March at 5:00pm with Jermaine Cameron who he recommended based on my needs. I received a confirmation email from from Mr. Cameron on March 5^th. I also checked the website to see what Mr. Cameron looked like so I knew who to look for. I arrived at 4:45pm and I didn’t see Mr. Cameron so I worked out on the treadmill until 5:00pm still no signed of Mr. Cameron I continued to walked around looking for him and I finally got the attention of one of the employees and explained to him I had a scheduled appointment with Mr. Cameron at 5:00pm (its was 5:15pm) and he stated he would contact Mr. Cameron and in the meantime I should just warmup on the treadmill (again). The employee stated he would come and find me with a status.
The saw the employee several times after that and he never provided me with an update finally after working out for an hour I left. I intend to cancel my membership because I don’t think this «Gold’s Gym» is a right fight for me I don’t do unprofessional especially when I’m paying by the hour. I understand things come up emergencies, but the professional thing to do was for Mr. Cameron to contact me to reschedule just I would have done if I could not make it. I feel as though one of the other employees who were just sitting in the office could have conducted the session in his place. «Team Effort»

So disappointed of this place!!! There are thieves in this location!!! Someone literally preys and steal your items. Management is poorly managed. Seem like they know these thieves that frequently steals random items from members.

I just tried to get a tour of the facility. They have one person at the front desk checking in and trying to describe the gym to me. No pamphlets for pricing and he had no clue about the actual price. Being a former fitness instructor and in the gym business… this is piss poor management. Don’t you managers know January is your time to gain more memberships? Pick up your game or you will be closed soon. You just lost a possible family membership. How much in membership fees is that for one year you just lost. I’ m off to One Life and LA Fitness to see what they have to offer.

I continue to be underwhelmed by the South Glebe/​South Arlington Golds Gym. It is cheap and I guess you get what you pay for. I stick with Golds because it is convenient — while this location is closest to my home, they have other locations sprinkled around northern VA that I also use (I go to Tysons location just as frequently, which is a notch better than South Glebe). I also travel quite a bit for business, and the nationwide network is a great benefit.
The pluses: This branch is big and it is near my home. The staff seems polite enough.
The minuses: The locker rooms continue to be dirty and do not exactly smell clean (blame it in part on sloppy patrons, and in part on staff that don’t pass through to clean regularly enough). Last week there was vomit on the floor which I needed to alert the staff of! The equipment seems to be well maintained (usually). There seems to be enough equipment variety, though a stretching station would be nice. The simple fact is, this place is full and they cannot squeeze anything else in. The functional fitness area is bursting at the seams, and when they have classes going on in that zone it adds to the space crunch. Continuing with the theme of congestion: there is a real parking crunch in this shopping center. (I love the Tysons location for the copious garage parking).
Last week (just before the Christmas holiday) the gym had a table set up with free snacks (candy and possibly cookies). Seems a little contradictory for a fitness chain to offer unhealthy foods. Just an observation.
If there were another nationwide chain with a branch near my home, with cleaner locker rooms and better parking, I would switch, but for now I am sticking with Golds the chain and enduring the South Glebe branch with its mediocrity.

The GMs are always professional, personable, and provide STELLAR customer service! John (the CPT) is dedicated & very focused with his clients! Other CPTs seem professional, friendly and approachable. On the flip side, the Personal Training Mgr is less than friendly, majority of the time, defensive & carries an unprofessional & careless attitude/​demeanour. As a «manager», she does not take the time to listen to clients/​members and has little to no regard for respecting people.

The Zumba class was fun on Sunday morning with Anna. I took the yoga right after and enjoyed that too. Low key here, no staff tried to sell me. Years ago water problem and it does smell in the main gym room.

Prior to obtaining a membership, all I knew of this gym was that the members took ALL the parking spots in the shopping center, meaning if I brought my cats to the vet, I’d have to walk from the Giant parking lot (cmon guys, can’t you park farther and walk? You’re not the ones carrying an animal, and the point is to EXERCISE).
I got my membership at a different Gold’s Gym by my work, but I’ve begun using this one more because it’s conveniently located 5 minutes from my house (yes, I’ll park farther if the lot is crowded).
Based on the few I’ve seen, this is a reasonably sized gym. The front desk people are pleasant, especially the guy who tends to work evenings; he can put a smile on my face before a workout. I’ve never seen the locker area or the cardio equipment area dirty. It may be that I try to avoid the rush hour group (4−7pm), so perhaps staff have managed to clean from the traffic by the time I arrive. I’ve never had a problem with equipment being broken, and it seems like there is plenty of machines to go around.
I guess my only negative note is that there are definitely lockers that have had locks on them every single time I go, meaning the staff doesn’t regularly remove them like they should when the locks are left long-​term. But there’s plenty of locker storage even then.

Ok gym with all the basics. The equipment is a little dates and the locker room is NEVER clean. Good gym if you are in a pinch to workout; otherwise, I would not be a member.

This Gold’s Gym is pretty outstanding for a «Globo Gym.» I’m pretty familiar with the gym industry and their pressure to sell training packages once you sign-​up. When I took a tour, I thought it would be off to the races on the training package pitch – kind of like a Best Buy Warranty on a flat screen TV. It never happened. The guy who gave us the tour and signed us up is one of the most genuinely kind guys I’ve met at any gym (I’m going to come back and enter his name here – I really should know it, for now, white dude with cleanly shaved head in his early 30s). I have a couple Crossfit Certifications and am a wannabe powerlifter. I have 20 years of training (mostly) the wrong way and now 1.5 solid years of doing things right. This gym has everything to fulfill my needs. There is a 200lbs tire to flip on 25 yards of green turf if you want to grind old skool. They also have a generic push prowler – it will break you. There is an area to do some heavy and speed bag work if boxing is your thing. In terms of the big compound movements, they have 4 racks for squats and deads (including one platform) and many benches. If you don’t like to make progress, at least in terms of weights, they have plenty of weight «machines.» Sorry. Anyway, they also have a great dumbbell selection going up to 150lbs. This Gold’s is certainly no powerlifting mecca (they don’t allow chalk and excessive noise – although I really haven’t seen it enforced) BUT if you truly want to transform your meat vehicle, they’ll be no excuse not to.
****Also, during the weekday hours of 4:30PM to 7PM, the place is jammed. Unless you’re just doing machines (shame on you, see a powerlifting coach asap – Alex Kang is the man, «google» him and sign up for his free videos on youtube) STAY AWAY during this time. You’ll be glad you did unless your into waiting and watching serious gym shenanigans. Ever see a dude do pull-​ups on a Smith Machine? Unfortunately, I have. Anytime on Saturday and Sunday is great for training.

This location one of the few gyms I’ve encounter that has so much to offer. There are variety of equipment to choose from whether you’re looking for cardio or strength training.
What I love most about this Gold’s Gym are the classes and very friendly fitness instructors. In addition to group classes (which are included as part of your membership fee by the way), they also offer personal one-​on-​one training with professional fitness instructors. This gym also offers free WiFi, a movie room where you can watch a movie while you get some cardio workout done, and even a steam room in the women’s locker room. I’ve yet to utilize that amenity. If you have children, they provide childcare on site, which makes it incredibly convenient.
Location isn’t too bad, except for parking. It can be challenging finding a spot nearby, especially during the weekend and any time after 5:00 P.M. on weekdays. Front desk personnel are always friendly and courteous. My only con at the moment is the outdated elliptical machines at the very front facing the TVs on the wall. Other than that, I’ve found that this gym has everything (and more) that I look for in a gym. Membership worth having.

There’s a dozen of us standing outside right now because despite «opening» at 7:00, no one has shown up to unlock the doors. – it’s 7:30. Really wish I could say this was a first for this location.
UPDATE: gym was in total disarray when we finally got in (weights scattered and unracked, towels all over the locker room, tangled mats and jump ropes shoved into bins), so opening and closing staff fail.

The Pilates classes at this Gold’s are amazing. Power Pilates on Monday with Alicia is consistently changing and she changes the routine every week. It’s impossible to get bored in her class. Beth’s class on Friday focuses on building balance, flexibility and strength. She’s very attentive to students and gives useful corrections throughout the class. Taking the Mon/​Fri classes has helped me recover from a stubborn back/​hip injury.
As a member of this gym for 5+ years, I’ve found it’s only improved over the years. The staff constantly seeks feedback and responds within days to requests. They also post notes with responses for all members to see.
The Kids Club is one of the best deals in town. My kids on several occasions have begged me to «go to the gym» so they could play in the club. Most of the staff are kind-​hearted and attentive.

I’ve been trying to join this gym for a few weeks now and every single time no one is there to help me.
I went into the gym on a Saturday around 5:15pm to see if I could have a tour of the facilities and to talk to someone about signing up. The man at the front said that they couldn’t accommodate since they only do tours and such between 9am-​5pm. Alright, so I’ll come back tomorrow between those hours. He agrees, though it looks as though I’m bothering him. Following day, I go to the gym at 1pm. The girl at the desk said everyone who is able to do that has gone for the day. Ummm???
I decided to try one last time a couple weeks after that weekend, but called first to schedule an appointment. Called three times over the course of an hour on a Saturday morning. No one picked up. If they are unable to have customer service for a potential new member, how on Earth do they support their current members? And maybe if, on the off chance, they aren’t able to talk to new members on the weekends or after the standard 9−5pm, how is one supposed to contact them if they are only available at those times.
It’s like they don’t want you to join! And after seeing some of the harsh reviews, it might be for the best.

I love this gym. I’m one of those gym rats who you’ll find in the weight area. They have a decent cardio set up and I’ve never really tried the group workouts, but the weight area gets the work done.
What really makes me love the gym is the staff. The staff is amazing. I see people complain about nit picky things, but they don’t seem to realize just how awesome they have it.
A bandaid on the floor? Isn’t that more of a complaint about your fellow gym people, not the gym itself? People suck, yes. The gym had housekeeping working all the time, constantly cleaning up after some really gross people – and always doing it smiling.
The staff has worked hard to make you feel like family, if you’re willing to put in the effort. If you want to put your headphones on and run on a treadmill for 5 hours, then the gym will do too, but you’re really missing out on some great customer service.

I’ve been a member since they gutted out the bowling alley and turned this building into Gold’s Gym. Well, it’s been good, bad, mediocre, and everything in the gray area.
I live in close proximity. So, it’s quite convenient. A decent gym, a cardio cinema room, nice weight training area, lots of spin and gym classes, and a kind, smile face to greet you at the door.
I like the gym. I need a change of venue. But, it has nothing to do with the gym. I’ve simply been a member since forever and I’m ready for a change of scenery.
Nevertheless, if you’re looking for a neighborhood gym, this is a great option.

I have been a member for 2 years now. Seriously considering switching gyms when my membership expires. I initially joined because they had aeveral 6am RPM classes. Now there is only one. The other 6 am are GGX which is basically classes led by «teachers» who do whatever routine they want. And thursday has no 6 am cycling class at all now. The gym is routinely dirty. Today it was obvious that the mens locker room had not been cleaned in over 24 hours. Evidenced by the used band aid in the middle of the shower room floor that was there yesterday. One shower had scum building up the walls. Disgusting.

I’m a regular at Gold’s and love the large selection of cardio and weights at this location. Additionally they have a great selection of functional fitness equipment.
The classes are good for spin and sports conditioning. I’m not into body pump in general but see it’s usually really crowded. The yoga classes weren’t good because of the really large workout room so I prefer to go to ballston golds for yoga.
