Meet the Business Owner

Essy S.

Business Owner

Following almost 10 years in a variety of D.C. restaurants, Essy began his business at this location in 1975, when he purchased an existing neigborhood family restaurant and bar. Leading an evolution to fine dining, Essy upgraded the menu, introduced white table cloths and fresh flowers, and focused on high quality, fresh ingredients. Today, Essy’s Carriage House features Certified Angus Beef, Wisconsin veal, Colorado lamb and the highest quality fresh fish and seafood flown in from various parts of the world.

Essy began his cooking career under the tutelage of a Belgian-born, French-trained chef, Joseph Storm. Essy’s specialties, in addition to a jumbo lump crab meat recipe that has become his signature dish, include braised short ribs, veal osso buco, beef stroganoff and other continental cuisine based on French cooking principles. Essy selects all of the ingredients used in the restaurant and cleans and cuts many of the steaks, chops and other center-of-the-plate items serv
