BEST DENTIST EVER!!! DR. BUTLER IS AN HONEST, DEDICATED DENTIST! WE NEED MORE DENTIST LIKE HIM AND HIS ASSISTANT, MARIO!!! My hubby and I been his patients for several years and are shocked at negative review because everyone (we have met at his office) is very happy and just loves his assistant, Mario! I can truly say that before finding Dr. Butler, the several dentists who treated me and my family either didn’t do the deep cleaning (that Dr. Butler does himself) or were like used car salesmen pitching a hard sell for services we didn’t need. Dr. Butler is very professional and approachable, and provides sound advice to maintain teeth between visits. He actually uses a scraper to clean teeth himself, unlike a lot of dentist today. We are so very happy that we have found him and Mario! With him, are teeth and gums are healthier than they have ever been! We always look forward to seeing Mario, as well! Just talking to Mario will brighten up your day!!! The world would be a better place if there were more dentists like Dr. Butler and and Dental Assistants like Mario!!!

After reading the prior customer comments, I was extremely hesitant about booking a dental appointment here (I have a general phobia of doctors and dentists), but after my dental visit this morning (I had a standard cleaning/​check up with x-​rays), I was very impressed. The location is very convenient (his new office is located at 2250 Clarendon Blvd, right outside of the Courthouse Metro station). Dr Butler was very knowledgeable, courteous and professional, and I was in and out of there in under 30 minutes. No cavities! Looking forward to my next check-​up in July!

If I could give ONE MILLION NEGATIVE STARS, I would! Absolutely the most awful dentist I’ve ever been to. I go to the dentist annually and have never had any issues, other than slight plaque buildup around the site of my permanent bottom retainer (almost impossible to floss thoroughly around it). My previous dentist was always capable of scraping this slight plaque and performing the cleaning VERY gently, without any excess bleeding or pain. I moved in the past year and got a different insurance with my new job. I got overwhelmed having to look for new doctors so I very quickly looked on my insurance website to see which doctors were in network and convenient to me. Dr. Butler’s name came up at the top of the list and the address was 5 minutes walking distance from my apartment. I should have been skeptical when I called and was immediately given an appointment that week. No wait time at all for a dentist? Does this mean no other patients? After my visit, I understand now why there wouldn’t be. After forcing me to take x-​rays that I didn’t specifically request (it’s not a required part of a routine visit but many dentists tell you it is), he began the cleaning. And by cleaning I mean torture. He was HACKING at my GUMS (with the METAL HOOK meant for SCRAPING PLAQUE FROM TEETH) rapidly and completely haphazardly. After enduring this for a couple seconds hoping he would stop, I shouted ‘OW’ and sat up. My mouth was FILLED with blood because my gums were bleeding so badly after only a few seconds. He then told me there was problem with my gums and that’s why I was bleeding so badly. I said «I’ve never had any issues before. It might have been because you were hacking at my gums with a sharp metal tool.» He replied to this with «It’s not my fault you have gum disease.» He then left the room and returned with a recommendation for a periodontist for my ‘gum disease’. I stormed out of the office without saying a word. The receptionist then forced me to pay a co-​pay and also told me my insurance did not cover the visit. At that point, I was already furious and this made me even more mad, since the only reason I had come across this pathetic excuse for a doctor was because of my insurance website. He said I had one week to provide different medical insurance. This was today so I have yet to figure this mess out. But I wanted to Unilocal while this experience was still fresh in my mind so NO ONE WILL GO TO THIS DENTIST EVER.

I went to the other dentist who shared Dr. Butler’s office space for many, many years. Then, when I called to make an appointment I found out that he had retired, and they just assumed I wanted to see Dr. Butler. Well, I needed an appointment, and they should be able to get my records, so I figured why not. One appointment was more than enough. I have good teeth and gums my whole life and generally take better care of my teeth than most, but at the end, my guns were bleeding all over the place, and my mouth hurt the rest of the day. Also, after the appointment, I had to talk to him three separate times to tell him that the only dental coverage I have is my dental plan and that no, my health insurance does not cover dental at all. He kept insisting I had BCBS coverage and didn’t know it, as if I don’t know what insurance I have. Finally, the lovely people at my dental insurance called him (with me silently listening) and told him that no, he had no more money coming. Oh, and he also said I had a cavity. Now, I have had no cavities or fillings, and I am not saying it isn’t possible, but I will let another dentist tell me that.

wow… unfortunately, have to agree with these other reviews! overall awful experience. never had such a painful exam and cleaning and I go to the dentist every 6 months! Thought I would try one close to work. also got nailed with the $ 30 extra that insurance didnt pay. tried 4 x to reach office to expalin & with no reply. finally got someone who told me that charge was for ‘infection control’!!! OMG! told them I have never had to pay for cleaning and exam (no xrays). They got $ 94 from insurance as it is. they then told me they would zero balance it. the guy reminded me of Steve Martin in ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, except he wasnt funny.

the experience was bad went in for a refurell to see a specialist on ruth canal and for 10 min of the dr time i had to pay 400 $ for two x rays, the staff had people issue and no one give you any information until you get to the register then it heats you .

This guy was attacking my mouth. Most painful experience ever at a dentist and all I had was a cleaning. Dont take my word for it, but listen to all the people found in the link below.
