Quest Diagnostics

So I had to get a blood panel done. My doc practices through NW Community, so I figured Quest next door would be a smart option.
Verdict: It was a decent option, but potentially costly (tho maybe that’s dependent on insurance.).
Pros:
Making an appointment online was easy and propelled me to the front of the line.
My phlebotomist was nice and personable. (Honestly!!1! We discussed the weather, biking the trails, and her post-​workout BBQ!)
Cons:
They put my CC on file unless my insurance (BCBS) wouldn’t cover a CBC and Metabolic panel.
Q: Am I going to be charged for uncovered bloodwork?
A: Maybe.
Q: How will I know? …do I get a bill? Receipt?
A: No.
Q: …sooo…How will I know if Quest charges me? Check my CC statement?
A: Yeah.
Me: Whaaaa?
I’m not sure why you can’t be legitly billed by Quest. (And am I wrong to assume that potential disputes may be irksome?)
Note: I did end up receiving an invoice via email ($ 20, MUCH less than their $ 140 estimate). Too bad cost wasn’t clear at the beginning (I’d have also put it on a different card had I known.) but overall a good experience otherwise.
