I have lived in a Mark’s Apartments building for 2 years. The people in our building are great, never have noise issues. However, Marks always does maintenance first thing Saturday and Sunday morning. They are currently replacing gutters which started before 8am on a Sunday morning. Almost every other weekend someone is banging ladders against the outside walls and waking up the residence. I work from home and I rarely hear this on the weekdays. If you like to sleep in past 8 am on the weekends or work night shift I would not recommend. That being said, the apartment itself is spacious and we love the hardwood floors. Having a washer and dryer in the building is great as well. When we have had maintenance issues inside the apartment they always respond quickly.

I lived in one of Marks & Co. Inc’s apartments(Montgomery Avenue location) for 4 years. In the beginning, things were great. The staff is friendly and helpful and I really enjoyed living there. However, in the past year, I have seen some downgrades in Marks & Co. 1) Review the lease carefully. They have a clause where if you live in the apartment for less than 2 years, they will take ½ of rent in your security deposit for re-painting. 2) They charge $ 95 extra per month for utilities.

Pros: great upkeep on old apartments, beautiful units, fair but not great rental cost, nice people in their office, willing to show you around and work with you Cons: the extra charges(flat utility payment that’s the same each month, parking fees, pet fees), pretty pricey for recent grads. They’re great apartments and I think the buildings are pretty well sound-proof, but if you look around you can find almost-as-good apartments in almost-as-good locations for much, much cheaper.
