Adventure’s Edge

So we went in to drop off a Kokatat suit with these guys for forwarding to Kokatats service team which was closed at the time. We walked in & were greeted by a friendly front counter guy & joined shortly after by what looked like the cycle tech. We explained that we were from out of town & that we had a Kokatat RA #. It didn’t take too long for Jennifer to come out of a back area to spearhead the opportunity to use the words «NO» & «CAN’T» several times. We explained that Kokatat asked us to drop it off with them. She said that they «couldn’t do it». «We have to give you the RA #» if we are involved”. I explained who told us to do what & why. She said that «someone was new & had mis-​advised us» entirely @ Kokatat. After listening to what she said I suggested starting a new RA# so they could handle the process. Jennifer had no interest in doing that or anything else for us. She ended by asking us for the RA #. I asked why she wanted the RA # if she wasn’t going to help us. She said «so she could have a talk with the rep that wrote the RA @ Kokatat». I said «Hmmmm, You have a nice day» & we walked out. Jennifer never got our names & knows nothing about us.
Like Jennifer I am also an owner of a specialty store in a small town on the Oregon Coast with a showroom & that offers products & services. I guarantee that my team & I will treat Jennifer better then she treated us if she walked into our store. Even when I tell someone NO if NO is the only answer, I still do so politely & after first getting the names of who I’m addressing & providing reasonable alternatives. I keep issues with affiliates out of the communication flow with the customer & would focus on other ways to show the customer that I care. Don’t spend your last sentence with us trying to rat on your local business Kokatat. They shop with you (I’m sure) as they are locals & Kokatat does not sell everything needed to paddle. Instead you hurt yourself & attempt to hurt Kokatat. What a pleasure it must be to have Kokatat in your town, why ruin it? If I had my way, you wouldn’t be selling Kokatat at all throwing down poor customer service like that & trying to punk those guys in front of customers. I glad your employees saw this whole thing go down so they will understand where a review like this came from. I’m a business owner & am well committed to every sport you outfit for with the exception of climbing. I spend lots of money to do the things I love. I also have been working with Kokatat for years & pretty much thought this whole encounter was a joke. They never taught me any of these techniques in customer service.

Great bike shop and outdoor store.
Bike shop staff is very knowledgable and friendly, even better –they do fantastic maintenance. They have fixed many things on my bike and always put in the extra effort to make sure the job is done well on quickly. They have also been helpful doing special orders, recommending parts, and building wheels.
The outdoor side of the store also has a great selection of camping and climbing gear. I’ve always been able to find what I need there at reasonable prices.

I had my bike tuned up there by a very nice technician. I can’t say for the rest of the store. I like that it’s a local business. They have a good selection for sale.

Purchased some stuff based on the label. When I got home and opened it, it was COMPLETELY different. Brought it back to the store and guy behind counter said they could only give me store credit. Meh. Not too happy about that considering it wasn’t like I wanted to return it. I just wanted what was in the picture on the package. The product was falsely advertised, but okay whatever… It happens. He said let me check with my manager and see what we can do. Hey! So far so good… After waiting for the manager to show up for 5+ minutes he says no. Umm okay… As soon as he walks away the employee trash talks him and the store. Wow… I’ll take your job if you don’t want it? Needless to say I now have store credit for a store I don’t really want to give business to. I’ll try the Eurkea store and maybe they will have better customer service. I don’t mind foul language, but I don’t expect to hear it from behind a register esp about someone doing their job and following a company policy. (Even if it was kinda true)

Excellent service! Like other reviewers have mentioned, the staff is helpful, very knowledgeable, fun and friendly. They answered all our questions, and gave us plenty of information to help us make the best purchases for our needs.
My friend and I stopped here on our road trip up the California coast from San Diego. We bought a two-​person kayak, plus life vests and an extra (removable) seat for the kayak. I also got prAna yoga pants.

The guys here are the absolute best. The bike crew really helped me out of bind on my xcountry bike tour when my rear wheel got stolen, and I’ll be singing their praises all the way back east. Chris and Scott are bike gods amongst men. Thanks again!

This is one cool store! Wide selection of products and great staff! They answer all my crazy questions and point me in the right direction. Competitively priced and quick orders if not in stock. Oh ya and there is a cool arcade game loaded with all the classics in the corner. Check them out!

Great lil store filled with bikes, camping gear, clothing and more. Friendly sales staff. I always find some great deals when I stop by… today I scored on a really nice Prana shirt and Teva flip flops!

Small store with good quality outdoor and biking gear! No Ugg boots ladies! I always find great deals in the clearance section!
The people follow you around but I guess they have to worry about theft!
The store is really small in comparison yo the Eureka store.
Always keep a look out for their sidewalk sales! I got a great deal on Bogs (low tops) for 25 bucks!

I have been shopping adventures edge since the late 1980s. I have spent thousands of dollars on merchandise and products.
However, I recently purchased defective and poor quality equipment from Adventure’s Edge in Eureka. When I attempted to return these items, I was told that they would not give me a refund. They told me I had to deal with the manufacturer directly. The manager and front desk cashier were unwilling to help me with my returns.
I have always tried to shop locally and to give them my business. After this experience I will never return to adventures edge Arcata or Eureka! From now on I will shop at Amazon or I will shop directly with the manufacturer.
Without good customer service, I would recommend that everyone shop elsewhere!
Sorry adventure’s edge, you had the opportunity to keep my business but you have failed.
I will actively tell friends, coworkers, and other professionals that they should not shop at your store.

Besides bikes, very friendly and helpful employees. Had an ancient stove cooker, and needed a part that was hard to find, and bam, it was there !

Can’t say enough good things about adventures edge. Since I got into cycling and triathlon they have supported me with all my bike needs. Their prices are extremely competitive and the staff is knowledgable and willing to answer any questions. Jeff the manager goes above and beyond to make sure my bike is always working perfectly. On one occasion I went into the store 30 minutes before closing on a Friday with a snapped bolt on my aero bars. Jeff knew I had a long ride planned in the morning. Not only did he stay late to make sure my bike was fixed but he drove it to eureka to meet me with it. Adventures edge is a staple in the community and sponsors many local events. I am honored to wear their jersey when I compete.

I recently bought a new bike from Adventure’s Edge. They helped guide me through the huge bike market and the process of narrowing down the options that were right for me. The owner was great to work with and she really knows her products. The bike manager is super knowledgeable on bike maintenance/​repair, the latest products and how those products operate when used. The staff is consistently kind, helpful and courteous. If you’re looking for outdoor gear you can’t go wrong with a purchase from Adventure’s Edge.
I have had the same experience over the last 20 yrs of shopping Adventures Edge for all my outdoor needs.

I race my bike a lot and a couple friends said to try this place for bike work… I brought it in with a little trouble with my brakes for a $ 30 fix/​bleed. Got it back came out to be $ 100 because they fixed other stuff without consulting me. Brought it to race weekend to find out that the break they were supposes to bleed… had NO fluid in it. they took 100 bucks and bent me over. REVO all the way. Fix my bike better

Don’t understand the negative comments about «snobby» employees. I’ve been a customer of this store for over 15 years, primarily for my biking needs, and have never had a bad experience with any employee or with anything I have purchased. Local cyclists meet several times a week here to go on local rides (Thursday evening for mountain biking) with people who work here. Yes, most of the time the bike shop employees know more than you do about bicycles, but that’s the way it is supposed to be. I’ve never been offended by competency. On the contrary, I’m grateful for it.

I am a huge fan of Specialized and Surly. So when I found a shop that sold them both you can understand how excited I was… Then I actually tried to be their customer. Ordering a $ 2,500 dollar custom Surly, Or at least trying to. I was met with dishonest, lazy employees who time and time again spoke condescendingly to me when I was forced to correct their inaccuracies. I kept it professional with them till the very end, but when they felt too good to properly fit my girlfriend for a 60 dollar seat. went out of their way to make her feel ignored and uncomfortable… I cancelled my bike order and moved on. this is Arcata, there are 4 bike shops here. I recommend Revolution Cycles or Life Cycles depending on your needs. Life for reasonably priced commuters and commuter supplies. Revolution for all your mountain and flashier road bikes. neither shop will steer you wrong. and both will be happy to see you. Unlike Adventures Edge. Which will make sure you understand that you’re a burden to them, whether you’re an experienced cyclist or a beginner.

This is a great store to find quality outdoor gear. I am a local whitewater rafter and this is the place I go for all my gear. The staff seem to also enjoy the outdoors and in my experience I have received good advise and everyone seems knowledgeable. It is nice to have a local store that carries quality merchandise.

I have been shopping at Adventure’s Edge for fifteen years but I fear the new management has taken it downhill. I recently bought a $ 35 coffee mug for camping and the handle broke off before I even got it home. It turns out that it was just a poor design. I returned the same day with my receipt and the tags still on the mug and the manager refused to give me a refund. He would only give me store credit. When I pointed out the clearly faulty design of the mug he told me that I could contact the manufacturer to get my money back.
I understand the reason a small business would want to encourage a customer to choose store credit. It was more the way the manager handled the situation that bothered me. He was rather abrasive and confrontational. And this mug was on a receipt with hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise. Any good businessman would have given a little slack to a loyal customer.
If this was the only bad interaction I had there I might be willing to overlook it. Unfortunately it was not. I am in that store a lot and I spend a lot of money on outdoor equipment, however I’m sure the manager did not recognize me. Their customer service really leaves something to be desired and their prices are certainly not good enough to make me choose them over the other local outdoor store three blocks away.
I recently used my $ 35 in store credit and I plan on making it the last time I spend my money there.

I feel compelled to make a comment about my unpleasant experiences at Adventures Edge. My wife and I have been into the shop many times for many different needs. We have found some useful and good quality products.
Unfortunately, I have always found the sales people to be unhelpful to the point of snobbery. This has occurred in different sections of the store on many occasions over the years. I have always had the feeling that the sales people had very little interest in us and did not want to waste time unless we were ready to make snap decisions about buying high dollar items.
I value shopping locally, but I also like to feel that a store values its customers and is warm and welcoming. Adventure’s Edge has been a cold place to shop for years and I will no longer spend my money there.
