Steak Out

I was not impressed with Steak Out.
It was about $ 17 for a ribeye steak dinner and $ 20 for ribeye and some combination of seafood, so I opted to get the one with some seafood (shrimp for me).
Their doneness scale is a little off, and not very good at keeping things consistent.
I asked for Medium, but found 0 traces of pink.
They also will use a 1 – 7 scale, in which I found out 3 is rare — so less than 3 is like raw? Don’t really get that scale. 3 — rare, 4 — medium rare, 5 — medium, 6 — medium well, 7– well done?
so 2 = blue rare and 1 = uncooked and mooing?
Yeah…
Anyways, their cooking isn’t very consistent. My steak was of low quality and I it was way too tough for a ribeye. Not worth $ 20, and you’re much better off going to Four Seasons in Rowland Heights.

It is with great displeasure that this review was knocked down from a 4 to a 3.
My experience: I order the «land and the sea» which included filet mignon and calamari for $ 19.99. When I was ordering they asked me whether I wanted rice or noodle (spaghetti), and I chose rice. Then they asked me how I want my steak cooked. I told them I want it cooked rare. The waitress told me «we do point system here from 1 – 7.» Being not familiar with the point system I asked for a 2 expecting the steak to come out rare or somewhere between rare and medium-​rare. More on this below.
The meal I ordered came with:
1. Horrible «salad.» It was the most banal cheapest lettuce found at any grocer, cut up into squares and topped off with what appeared to be imitation Thousand Island dressing. Too bad I didn’t take a picture of it, I was too busy trying to finish it (I was taught to eat what I don’t like first and fast).
2. The corn chowder, which was very watered down but retained a slightly bland but satisfying flavor. This was great with the (look at #3).
3. Garlic bread. The star of the «free meal» appetizer.“
Someone from my party also ordered the tofu, and that was the king of the appetizer. The tofu was soft and a little crunchy, great with the sauce they provided.
My party received all their food first and it all looked amazing. All the steaks came out in a steamy clay pot, which was sizzling hot. I was the last to receive my food and the first to be disappointed. I cut open a bit of my steak to reveal it being raw. I understand that I did indeed ask for a 2, so I called the waitress over and told her it’s raw. She told me to wait a minute, and grabbed a male waiter who then proceeded to chastise me that a 2 is raw steak.
But holy snaps, I just wanted them to take my piece of meat back to the kitchen and stick it in the oven for 10 more seconds! I wasn’t even rude and I was given this lecture and disgruntled attitude. Honestly I just wanted my steak to be edible (in my standards), and I wasn’t even asking for a new one. I just wanted him to take my steak back and make it from raw to rare, which he did, after he proceeded to make this whole situation into a show of power and ignorance.
So there. The food’s great, not worthy of a 5 but still great nonetheless. The waiter and the way the whole restaurant handled this situation (which shouldn’t have been a problem in the beginning, JUST STICK IT IN THE OVEN AGAIN)!

Ordered the Filet Mignon Steak which comes with soup and salad. Meat is reasonably thick and tender. Large portion for the price.
However, service is horrible, we only saw our server only when he served us our food. Other than that, he is nowhere to be seen most of the time to refill our drinks.
Tips: Get seated at the tables near the front counter. Service is slow and it seems like they seldom walk to the tables right inside.

I don’t know about you but personally, I just love a good, raw steak with blood oozing out every time I rip into it. Okay, I’m joking. I’m not that much of a cavewoman to enjoy my steaks like that. Unfortunately, this was the exact experience I had here at Steak out.
The restaurant’s concept is inexpensive Taiwanese café style foods. Think sizzling steaks, spaghetti, beef noodle soup and iced teas. My friends and I all came here for the sizzling steaks and with a name like Steak Out, how bad could it be?
Bad. Really, really bad. With the notion that my steak would continue cooking a hot sizzling platter to medium rare perfection, I ordered my steak rare. The woman taking the order asked if I’d prefer it at a ³⁄₁₀ or a ⁵⁄₁₀. I found this system confusing, as a ⁵⁄₁₀ in doneness is not even close to rare, it’s a medium since it’s right in the middle, right? All technicalities aside, I asked for it at a ³⁄₁₀. What was delivered to me was an almost raw, bloody mess that seeped blood from the top each time I cut into it. The taste of raw beef was overwhelming to the point where I had to ask them to cook it for longer. The woman tried to justify this by telling me I asked for a ³⁄₁₀. I really don’t care what number I asked for, you can’t justify serving meat like this!
When they brought it back to me, I had already lost my appetite and was getting quite hangry at this point. Side note: I didn’t misspell «hungry», by the way. On top of all this, they had forgotten to bring us our drinks. Since we were at the end of our meal, we asked them to cancel the order. What did they do? They left and brought us our drinks, even though we told them we didn’t want it anymore. And no, it wasn’t complementary. Again, we had to tell them to cancel the order.
They also don’t speak any English whatsoever and insist on speaking Mandarin to you even if you have no idea what they’re saying. Luckily, we had a few Taiwanese Mandarin speakers in our party, but what if there wasn’t? It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten at such a mess of a place.

Food was alright. My gf and I order the fried tofu, tenderloin steak/​medium rare/​with black pepper sauce, and the fried pork chop rice. Fried tofu is hot on the crust but cold inside, steak was not tender and tough, and the fried pork chop wasn’t juice at all.
Service could be faster. Over all food was alright, but would not come again.

I came here on my fellow Unilocaler’s recommendation but i was disappointed, so weremy teenage kids. Their food was on the bland side. But if u ever want to pick what sauce to go with your steak, choose the black pepper sauce. The other sauces like mushroom was just too bland and almost tasteless. On the bright side, i do really like their simmered pork mushroom noodle soup! And their service. I would come back only if i was like in the area and just order the same simmered pork mushroom noodle soup.

OK food, no service, not planning for second visit.
Drove by this place a few times and since there is not a Taiwanese style steak place in San Gabriel, decided to give it a try on Sunday.
The restaurant was pretty empty for dinner, we got to pick our own table :) Serve dropped the menu and came back took the order a few minutes later. We both ordered the Sea & Land Special $ 17.99. Corn Soup and salad, garlic bread are just same as other places, the entrée did had pretty presentation, chicken was really tender, generous portion of fish filet, shrimp is a bit dry and plain. We tried the mushroom sauce; a little light, so does the black pepper sauce.
20 minutes after we finished dinner, server walked by and dropped the check, good 15 minutes later we asked him to picked up the credit cards. There was NO interaction between the server and us or other guests, took order, bring out the food, pay and leave… It looked like a family owned restaurant and I love support local business, but the service was just non-​exist and hard for us to go back again.

Love the sizzling plate and the egg that came with it. Big portion.
I don’t like the dressing on the free salad. Just wish they can put it on the side.
I ordered median rare, but forgot that the steak was served on the sizzling plate and I should have ordered rare instead since it continues to cook when the steak is served.
Be sure to order the fried tofu. Loved it.
Overall, I like the food, but the service is just okay since they are understaffed.
We will come back again.

Their chops and steaks are pretty decent for the price. However! They really need a makeover on their salad dressing and soup! The dressing are always like a dollop of goo, and the soup that comes with the meal taste like flour soupy water! Not editable!

The closest Taiwanese steakhouse place I can get to in the 626. The next place to have good Taiwanese steak is Rowland Heights.
Filet mignon –was bigger than t-​bone steak. It was good! And soft. I chose black pepper sauce. Bf preferred my sauce rather than mushroom. The mushroom sauce was plain. I give my sauce and steak an 8.
T-​bone steak –is good. It doesn’t taste like an american steakhouse but for Taiwanese its good. I give it an 8!
The steaks are not bad. Good portion and the sauce is what makes it good. They give it to you on the side. It comes with noodles or rice and veggies, salad, bread, and soup. I would come back.

I tried the New York Steak, medium, with black pepper sauce. The meat is really tender and the side pasta is home made style, which taste ok.
Will come back to try other things.

First time trying this type of restaurant. When I fist walked in the server was sleeping in a booth. My boyfriend and I taught that was weird. Yes the day we went it was pouring and they had no business we were the only couple there. I was surprised to find the waiter sleeping in the booth right when customers walk in it’s just strange. Well I still wanted to try the food. I had the fried wonton, not what I expected. I had the shrimp noodle soup not as tasty as I expected. The only plate I liked was the steak fried rice. I have had better. I hope management improves the food and customer service. The location is new, so they definitely need better ideas and tips to survive. The previous restaurant that was at this exact location had excellent food and it still didn’t survive. My advice improvement to attract more people.

Inexpensive good food. The ambiance is spare but clean. The menu has lots of goodies. For example, we decided to share a fish ball soup thing that was $ 4.95, I believe. It’s comes out in a rather massive bowl with lots of fish balls and lots of great broth and stuff in it. In short, great value for the money.
Service was okay. About typical for an Asian restaurant.
Bathrooms: Didn’t try them.

I’d give this place 3.5 stars solely on food, but because I really enjoyed their service, I’m bumping it to a 4!
I had the tenderloin ($ 9.50) & the bf had the ribeye ($ 16.95), and although I did enjoy my dish, I thought the rib eye was better.
Both the entrees come with salad, soup, garlic bread to share, rice/​pasta, choice of mushroom/​black pepper/​fusion sauce, and my personal favorite, a sizzlin’ egg!
We shared popcorn chicken ($ 4.99), that was pretty good, wish there was basil in there though!
BOGO green tea ($ 2.95) was pretty good too!
How do i remember the prices? I don’t know, it’s a gift.
All in all, I’d definitely come back!

Walked in just before 7 pm on a Fri night and got seated pretty quickly. The place isn’t that big but they seem to turn around quick as most Chinese places try to do. This is more of a Taiwanese food joint and if you’re used to eating at Chinese cafes and the like, you’ll recognize the items on the menu.
7:18 pm: finally was able to get someone’s attention and place our order. Yes, almost 20 minutes to order. The staff is running around like chickens with their heads cut off. I know this place hasn’t been open long, but it feels like an opening night.
7:25 pm: received starters of «salad» (just lettuce leaves in a not too shabby dressing that’s kind of mayo-​y), our corn chowder soup that came with our steak meals and garlic bread. The garlic bread is a strange touch for a Taiwanese place but is good.
7:31 pm: my order of fried tofu appetizer just came out. tofu is good. the garlic, soy sauce dipping sauce is on point, if you like your garlic… and I do.
7:34 pm: one of our ordered drinks comes out soon with one of our dishes, Taiwanese sausage rice.
7:39 pm: our final dishes come out, chicken steak with black pepper sauce and beef tenderloin in mushroom sauce. These plates come out sizzling hot! My wife ordered the beef medium and it came out bleeding still. Luckily, my chicken wasn’t. However, my chicken was extremely tough. One thing is, they do not skimp on the pepper in their black pepper sauce.
Overall, this place doesn’t stack up to other established spots like Garden Café or the like. I have a feeling that if I come back here, it’ll only be for certain items as they don’t do all items well. The service, as mentioned before, is lackluster and the food comes out slower than most Chinese places. Once they bring your food, they don’t come check on you, which I don’t particularly mind, but some might. I don’t feel that there’s anything they offer that would bring me back here.

We’ve tried Steak Out twice, once for shaved snow and once for the steak.
The shaved snow was pretty good and I liked how they leave the condensed milk separate. I kind of wished there were a few more options for the shaved snow menu. It was kind of limited to a few different fruit options.
The steaks are served on a sizzling hot plate and your entrée comes with a sunny side up egg, soup, small salad, and your choice of rice or pasta.
Our party got the tenderloin, filet, and a beef noodle soup. All of the dishes were bland and not something we would order again (mainly because it is prepared better at other restaurants).
If it weren’t for their shaved snow, I’d probably give them 2 stars overall. We might try them again for shaved snow, but definitely not for the food.

First and foremost, don’t judge a place by its name. Steak Out may lead you to believe they specialize in steaks. Complete lies!
We came here for lunch on a Sunday. Their menu is less than impressive. The usual chicken, filet of sole, pork chops or beef is served w/​either rice or pasta, and comes with mushroom or black pepper sauces … just like Garden Café and numerous other Asian places. In addition to a side of soup, they also include garlic bread and a side salad. The salad is a small bowl of iceberg lettuce w/​a dollop of their homemade thousand island dressing (basically ketchup & mayo) the soup is cream of corn, no other choices. The garlic bread is something you’ll probably find at a Denny’s. Needless to say, not impressed at all with the sides.
Both orders arrived on a sizzling platter w/​an egg sunny side up. We opted for pasta. Should have chosen rice. The pasta sauce tasted like it should be used on a sloppy joe. Curiously, their mushroom sauce was very similar to the pasta sauce.
The filet of sole was tender, lightly seasoned and good, but costs a few bucks more than the other Asian places in Arcadia.
The tenderloin (which is supposed to be tender, like a filet mignon) was extremely tough that we had problems trying to cut it w/​a steak knife, and we ordered medium rare. This is where the entire experience went downhill.

(5 minutes pass by, we see her helping other tables, and not coming back, so I called her over again)

Waitress: Want me to bring it back and have the chef cook it some more?
Me: ??? It’s not a matter of being undercooked, it’s a bad cut of meat.
(she leaves and brings me black pepper sauce, which she forgot when they first brought out the platters, 10 minutes before)
Me: That doesn’t solve the problem. Did you tell mgmt.
Waitress: Yes, they said it shouldn’t be tough.
Me: But IT IS. Would you like to cut into it, or take a bite? How about ask the chef to come out and take a bite?
Waitress: Um … I’ll be back
(returns a few minutes later)
Waitress: Chef said some cuts are tender, some are tough. It’s normal and you just got the tough slice.
Me thinking: WTF?! by this time, we lost our appetite and wanted to leave
Me still: Well we can’t eat this. OK, just give us a box for the fish.
(no boxes ever came. the check arrives and they charged us for the salad, soup & garlic bread, which is ¹⁄₃ of the cost of the entire tenderloin order) I don’t have time to argue over a few bucks. so fine!
Me: Can we have a box? (while paying in cash)
Waitress: Sure
(the change comes back and still no box, and every other table got the boxes they asked for)
Me thinking: oh yea … 1 star Unilocal review and no tip, while exiting w/​plans to never return. We were planning to exchange it for chicken or pork chop, but the way in which they handled their mistake told us this is not a place we want more food from.
The place isn’t very big, about 7 or 8 tables. The décor is quite plain, although they try to give it a hip, modern feel. The walls are painted a dull mustard yellow, and they painted over everything, light switches, outlets… etc. Which shows a complete lack of attention to any details.
I can’t believe other diners would settle for the cheap meat they serve. I truly believe Sizzler or Denny’s would have better steaks, or at the very least, much better customer service.
I DO NOT recommend this place. I wouldn’t even bring the leftover steak home for my dog, she deserves better.

I’m super nice to small, up and coming, restaurants. So Unilocalers may find my review a little too positive.
Good spot! Food is decent. Everything lacks a little bit of flavor but I’d like to think this new spot can improve. Of all the Taiwanese Steak spots Four Season on Colima is my fav, but this spot is at least better than Cowboys on Valley.
Ordered:
A Choy– not my style of minced meat sauce but happy that they have many side dish options.
Braised pork belly– only 2 big pieces but today is was very tender
Rib Eye– good for the price
Shrimp– small pieces of shrimp overcook a easily
The sizzling entrees all come with:
Salad– authentic because it’s originally so simple anyway lol
Corn Soup– watered down
Garlic Bread– normal, nothing amazing
Spaghetti– normal
Black pepper and mushroom sauce: both watered down. Even the A1 Sauce was watered down. Damn Chinese restaurants
Not complaining! Happy to be a Taiwanese food fan in Arcadia and hope to see them do better. This paves the way for hopefully similar and better eats.
Oh! They have shaved ice too. It’s aiite, condense milk is also watered down hahaha!

Came in for lunch on a weekend. Place was not crowded at all. In fact we were the only ones there when we arrived.
FOOD:
–Fried Tofu: This definitely needed to be fried more. Felt like I was just eating regular tofu.
–Salad: This came with the meal. It was pretty good but WAY too much dressing.
–Corn Soup: Pass on this. A bit too watery for my liking.
–Garlic Shrimp: The portion is actually really small considering the fact that I was able to finish everything and still felt like I was not full. I like the fact that the shrimps has already been peeled for you. I did not like the raw egg that came out on the hot plate. Since I do not like runny yolk, I decided to break it up and it just became little bits and pieces of fried/​scramble egg… In regards to the taste, it was not anything memorable. In fact it was pretty bland covered with a whole lot of «mushroom sauce» that didn’t really taste like mushroom sauce.
SERVICE (hit or miss):
–The waitress was accommodating at changing the channel to a basketball game for us when we requested.
–For the drinks you have an option of adding boba, aloe, etc. I wanted to add aloe to my drink and she just looked at me like I was speaking gibberish. After about 2 minutes of trying to explain, I just gave up.
–Even though there was 2 other tables there aside from ours, the waitress was hard to get a hold of.
OVERALL:
Don’t think I would come here again. The food wasn’t that impressive and service definitely needs some improvement.

Got a flyer in the mail for 10% off this place during its Grand Opening. It’s the same chain as Formosan Restaurant in Artesia, apparently.
My friend and I went for dinner and we both easily passed it on the way here. It’s literally where Shanghai Garden Bistro used to be, next to Café Fusion, but the sign is still up with a temporary banner denoting that it is a steak house now. Apparently there is a sign up that says it was a change in ownership?
We both were not hungry so we shared a Popcorn Chicken appetizer for $ 4.99 and the Tenderloin for $ 10.50. The sizzling plate came with salad, corn chowder soup and garlic bread. You get to choose your sauce and spaghetti or rice.
Salad was eh, but obviously you’re not there for that. The Corn Chowder was a bit sweet and thick/​flour-​y. We both agreed it was «different». Garlic bread is just butter on a slice of soft-​almost stale baguette bread.
Tenderloin was nice in some parts– juicy and tender and other parts it was a bit tougher. We ordered medium and it came out more medium rare, which was still fine. We opted for the fusion sauce with spaghetti and it was great. It also has an egg on a sizzling platter, which was nice.
Popcorn chicken is pretty good here but we both prefer spicy versions of it. It actually is a light batter with more meat and garnished with light, crispy basil leaves. It was not greasy at all and was very nice. If you get the Popcorn Chicken Rice Plate though, it is $ 7.30.
Overall, we both thought it was ok. As far as Taiwanese steakhouses go, it is okay. With the 10% off, it was about $ 15 – 16 for these two things between both of us and we were both sufficiently filled. Really not bad at all but nothing too spectacular.
The service was great since it is relatively quiet as of now. Our waitress gave us extra plates to share food and rushed to me when my water was getting low (I don’t even think she was looking at me!). They have sports on the TV and are flexible with requests as well.
