Having no car, I have few options when I want to go off campus with some of my friends(who don’t drive either) during lunch, and this is one of them. It’s close enough to walk to and from the high school, order, and eat. The service is decent: not as quick as some fast food places but faster than most other places. The food is average — it’s not bad, but I’ve had better teriyaki. I’ll give it an extra star, because it’s convenient and slightly better than cafeteria food, but it’s not the best.

If you’re in the mood for fast chicken teriyaki but can’t find a yoshinoya close by, then this is your best bet. I usually get the large chicken teriyaki plate and eat half for lunch and save the rest for dinner. The large plates start at $ 4.99. Today i had the large chicken plate that comes with chicken, rice and vegetables. My lunch cost about $ 7.50 with a medium drink. Its located in a plaza next to El Pollo Loco and an asian mini market. Not the best I’ve ever had, but very affordable and convenient.

This place is hard to miss since the name is kind of cute and it’s right on the corner of Santa Anita and Duarte. I checked it out for the first time today and was not impressed. First I ordered a spicy tuna bowl that cost $ 7.89 + tax. The picture looked like there would be a lot of spice tuna but what I got was a big bowl of white rice and a centimeter thin covering of spicy tuna. There only a small slice of avocado and then some seaweed paper. This was not worth the money. Also, the only vegetarian thing they have is steamed veggies over a large amount of white rice. And believe me there is about 5X more white rice then vegetables made of cabbage and some brockely(we only got one little sliced carrot). I left feeling dissatisfied and sick of rice. I don’ think I will be going back here.

Ok, the food is great, but not memorable. But with such an affordable menu for more than often unaffordable food, it’s a great place for casual lunching. Looks like a family-run operation and they’re all very friendly. :) It used to be Jody Maroni’s and they didn’t convert the entire place so it still has the same look and feel(red and yellow). But, once you munch on the food, you kinda forget about the décor. The teriyaki chicken is awesome… the perfect texture and right amount of sauce… They are VERY consistent with their food, and that’s a major plus! The beef is also great! I highly recommend their combo meals so you get a little bit of everything(rice, veggies, chicken and beef). My favorite is the sashimi bowl… ! You get a good portion of rice, smothered with tuna and about 4 – 5 slices of salmon sashimi. This would cost perhaps about $ 12-$ 15 at other places… here, it is about $ 8-something. :) Like the others say, hope this place doesn’t close down like the previous restaurants did in this same place. Support the mom & pops!

Surprisingly good teriyaki chicken – nicely charred, but usually tender and a lot of it. The rice is nicely«al dente» and the fried shrimp is nice and crisp. I’ve always had a decent meal here and the prices are cheap. They have a good beef bowl too, but they took it off the menu because their beef prices shot up and the owner didn’t want to buy cheap beef. The beef noodles wafted by and I’m going to try that next! Like my grandmother used to say, «pyan yet lian” – cheap but also good!

I knew I shouldn’t have trusted sushi to people who Rock & Roll… Came here after passing by this lonely corner store for awhile. It was new and they made it look cheap… decided to give it a shot. Inside of the store looks just as cheap and ghetto as the outside. Food was whatever… wasn’t horrible but not worth going back for. Kind of pricey for such a ghetto looking place too. Prices are comparable to actual good sushi restaurants so I was kind of surprised by the prices here.

i’m a big fan of the teriyaki chicken here, the chicken is tender and plentiful, and the teriyaki sauce doesn’t overpower like they do at most other places if i feel like eating teriyaki chicken in arcadia, this is definitely the place! hopefully this place doesn’t shut down like the other 5 or so different restaurants that have occupied this place since i’ve graduated from AHS

Reminds me of that sad senior moment when everyone else has a car and you’re stranded because you have no connections. Or no friends. I practically gave them my money for the better half of a year(until I got my license =D) and I kind of stopped coming. Actually, I don’t even know why I stopped coming. They have some delicious food for some pretty good prices. Because of their recent opening they have some amazing/awesome combo deals for only 4 or 5 bucks. Unfortunately, it kind of rounds down to a 4 because it takes a while for them to make your food. Secondly, their portion is just average. It’s not enough to make you full, but not enough to make you hungry. Somewhere below satisfied but not wanting any more. Besides that, the owners here are very nice. I came in one night and they still remember(ed) me. Wonder when I’m going to stop by again. I’m hungry.

They used to have the $ 3.99 chicken teriyaki bowls here(that came with a drink), which was like the best deal since god knows when, probably to lure in customers to this location that’s notorious for eventual downfall. Sadly, they don’t have it anymore = downfall

Surprisingly enough — this place is pretty good. BACKGROUND: I drive by Rock Teriyaki and Roll all the time. I never bothered stopping by because I certainly had my doubts: 1) Whichever establishment that occupied this property never seemed to do well — as in, they would close very shortly after opening.(One victim I recall is Cherry Lips or something or other — obviously forgettable) 2) Being that a bowl of teriyaki chicken AND a drink was only $ 3.99 — needless to say, some flags were raised — They either gave you very VERY little, the chicken was horrible, or worse, it wasn’t even chicken. 3) With a name like that? I highly doubted anything good could come out of it. PROVEDWRONG!!: There was actually a very good amount of chicken and rice within the bowl — and with the sauce at ‘all you can pour’ — I was definitely very surprised and very happy with what I got. The chicken was actually juicy and of good texture. The rice was near perfect — not too sticky, not too dry. VERDICT: Sure — I’d come back when I’m not feeling El Pollo Loco(in the same plaza) or other forms of stomach filling substance(there’s so many food establishments within a ½ mile radius that could be considered better selections). Give it a shot — you might end up as shocked as I was :)

How can you go wrong with $ 3.99 for a decent sized chicken teriyaki bowl and a soda? You can’t. This place is my go to place if I have NO idea what to eat. I just pop on over, it’s about 2 blocks from my house, and grab a chicken bowl. Tastes pretty good, I always grab an extra container of teriyaki sauce cause they don’t really put much on the chicken. Overall, YUM. Try the strawberry fanta!

I used to visit this place biweekly on days I was studying across the street at the Arcadia Public Library. If you are already in the area and you want a solid teriyaki chicken bowl, this is the place to go. For $ 3.99, you get rice, a little bit of veggies, and A LOT of chicken. Oh — and it comes with a drink! For the price, I highly recommend it. It’s a great value. The profit margin cannot be that high for what they give you. Honestly… I’d actually prefer less chicken and more veggies. I’ve tried other items, such as teriyaki beef and teriyaki salmon and, unfortunately, I don’t recommend them. They also have sashimi bowls and I never mustered the courage to try those. Stick to the chicken bowls if you come here. Also… don’t forget to get extra teriyaki sauce and rooster sauce on the side. This place gives yoshinoya a run for the money. Just do yourself a favor and try to come here before or after the lunch rush. It’s located right by Arcadia High school and kiddies rush this place between 12:07 and 12:38. =P You figure that the kiddies need time in order to have to go to their lockers after class and they have wait for their friends so that they could walk together in order to come and leave… but I digress… Chicken bowls are solid. End of story! =)

Rock Teriyaki and Roll occupies a storefront that was once a Jody Maroni’s Sausage Kingdom. I couldn’t understand how that place stayed in business. Arcadia isn’t exactly a Mid-Western, sausage-eatin’ kind of burg. Well, it obviously went out of business, so there you go. I don’t really get the name of this place: Rock Teriyaki and Roll? Wah? They have teriyaki bowls and sushi rolls, but what’s with the«rock»? I didn’t see any pictures of any former WWE superstars hanging on the walls. I guess weird business names are mandatory for this particular strip mall. Another defunct shop in the same row was named«Cute Baby Beauty». Huh? The interior is rather austere. They have a counter with a cold case and a few tables. Most of the items on the menu board are about 7 bucks. They had a special lunch deal in the window for $ 4.99. I opted for the spicy tuna and salmon combo, which was the most expensive item up there. I got it to go. Hey, it was fairly tasty. I’ll have to go back and try the teriyaki. Seems like a quality place and I’d like to help keep another storefront from going empty in the neighborhood.

It was 8:30pm on a clear Arcadian December night. I wanted a chicken teriyaki bowl, and was excited to see the«open» light on at this unfamiliar Rock Teriyaki & Roll place. I parked. Fumbled through my bag to get my wallet, and got out of the car. Suddenly, the restaurant lights turned off! Sad! She must have saw my broken stomach(vs broken heart) because the nice Chinese lady opened the door and said«You want a Chicken Teriyaki bowl right?!»(how did she know!!) «YES!» I said So she kindly opened shopped again, got the cooks in the back to make my desired craving. She was even apologizing… she explained they used to close at 9pm before, but for the past few months, they closed at 8:30pm. There was even a sign that stated the new hours. Chicken Teriyaki Rice bowl with rice and a soda… for $ 3.99. Chicken quality was good and wasn’t overly sauced with teriyaki. Rice was great to taste, and it came with steamed vegetables. Did I say it was only $ 3.99? I doesn’t get better than this. They stayed an extra 10 minutes for me man… that’s awesome. 4 stars for quality and service.

Got a hankering for teriyaki, so me and my brother decided to check out Rock Teriyaki and Roll. It had a cute name and was close by. I got a chicken bowl while he got a beef and chicken combo. The quality of the meat is definitely better than Yoshinoya. My brother also commented on how the vegetables weren’t «sour» as they were in Yoshinoya. However, he was disappointed the beef was more like Korean BBQ ribs, and he had more bones than actual meat. We did like the chicken though. The prices were more than fair. However, I tend to like my teriyaki bowls with more sauce. My bowl wasn’t dry, but the sauce only covered the rice and not the meat. I guess I’ll ask for extra sauce next time. I gave them 3 stars because while the food quality was good and tasted more healthful than chain stores, it just wasn’t memorable. To compare, I enjoy the teriyaki at BMan’s or the premade bowls at Mitsuwa more.

I’m paranoid they are going to close and that my boyfriend will resort going to Yoshinoya again. Seriously, please save me from such a fate and eat here on your lunch break so I don’t have to eat the ridiculous yellow veggies that are loaded with salt. The menu is limited but what you get is a great value. The chicken is not over sauced so I don’t feel like dying of sodium and I can drizzle it on and control how much I want to elevate my blood pressure for the day. The food is fresh and the service is generally pleasant. A nice clean mom and pop joint. I usually get the chicken bowl but everything I’ve had here is decent. The chicken is tender, the salmon is well cooked, and the sushi doesn’t make me sick and works in a bind. The beef teriyaki is actually short ribs marinated in gingery teriyaki sauce and really tasty and comes recommended too. The only thing that bums me out is that it can take awhile to get your food, in which case call ahead. FREESODAISBACK! I hope this doesn’t mean they’re going out of business… sad face.

Last weekend i just tried their beef teriyaki. SOOOO delicious, i’m still drooling over it. even at 8 something o’clock(they close at 9), the food still came out piping hot. they used nice cuts of korean short ribs for their beef teriyaki. Albeit at $ 6.99 for korean ribs that included the bone isn’t as filling as the teriyaki chicken, i can’t deny that the ribs were so juicy and tender. a nice slavering of their sweet teriyaki sauce over moist ribs made it so good. Extra props for the owner/chef that came out of the chicken and gave a complimentary ice cream to one of the little kids.

I tried their teriyaki chicken bowl and it wasn’t anything special — just your standard teriyaki. The price wasn’t bad, A nice sized bowl for about 4.70 after tax. I must say the chicken was a BIT undercooked though. However, I do want to come back and try their salmon bowl since everyone seems to recommend it on here!

I’m not a fan of the name since I find it hard to remember(what is rock teriyaki???) but I like this place. Food comes at a decent price plus they’re currently running a promotion where you can get free soda. I read somewhere else that you can just go in for the soda without purchasing anything although I’ve never tried to do that myself. I tend to get the chicken teriyaki bowl for a little over $ 4. My dad likes the salmon. I haven’t tried any of their sushi yet. Got the craving for Yoshinoya? Try this out instead. I have high hopes for this place. Businesses at this spot have not survived for too long so best of luck! Edit: FREESODAISGONE!
