Blu Salon Aveda

Super late review but I stopped going here a few years ago. Elvia left the salon and none of the others could get my bangs the way she did. When she first left I asked the male on the phone if he knew where she had gone (hoping to go see her there) but he was kind of rude, he said something like «I don’t know and who cares we have other stylists who will do an even better job» well no they didn’t do a better job so after going in a couple times and getting them trimmed by someone else I decided to just let my bangs grow out.

My daughter has used this salon before, so she was excited about bringing her bridesmaids in for her big day. The salon quoted her a range of prices depending on the style to be done. MInd you, the quote did not include shampoo or cut — just hairstyling. The quote was between $ 45 – 80 before a 20% discount:
Here is her email dated 2÷14÷12: «The prices for style/​updo ranges from $ 45-​$ 80 depending on how complicated what you want is. I spoke to the owner and she has agreed to give us a 20% discount (so this means if you wanted the most complicated style it would be $ 64)»
Unfortunately, the salon charged everyone between $ 70 – 80 with NO DISCOUNT. And it didn’t depend on how complex the style was. I myself just had my hair curled with a curling iron and was charged $ 72! And when I went home to get dressed for the wedding, I ended up having to brush it out anyway because they had poofed it too much on top and it looked like a football helmet.
I think the salon took advantage of us because it was the day of the wedding and we really didn’t want to upset my daughter on her wedding day.
I believe the salon owes all of us a refund for at least part of the price we paid. They should have honored what was told to my daughter way back in February. Most of us could have done the same hairstyles on our own and it was painful for some of the bridesmaids to pay so much for something that was clearly not worth $ 80.

This is the worst salon I have ever been to, and I have been to many.
I made an appointment to ombrè my hair. When I arrived I told the stylist exactly what I wanted and even showed her multiple pictures. She was very positive and told me that she could do it. No problem. Soon I found out that that was not going to be the case. After she had already began to apply dye she informed me that she had never done the ombrè technique. She then continued to ask every other stylist in the salon to walk her through every single step of the process. She continually said «I don’t how to do it» and was extremely stressed out. Due to her utter incompetence my appointment took almost 5 HOURS to complete, which is absurd since it should have taken half the time. Then when she finally revealed what she had done I was shocked. She had basically dyed my entire head one color with two blonde strands in front of my face and a couple lighter ends. It was not even close to the pictures i had showed her. I absolutely hated it but I felt bad telling her. Anyway, when I went to pay I got yet another shock. The dye job ended up costing me over $ 300! I have never spent that much on a single dye job before.
This salon is overpriced for the incompetent stylists they have to offer clients.

This is the worse aveda salon, they bleached my hair green, it was a newbies intern who did my hair! My hair color turned out brassy old gold tone!

Got a groupon coupon for a facial and eye zone treatment for $ 50. My first facial experience with Ericka. The facial was done in a very small room. She was very professional and took really good care of my face. She was able to notice the problems about my skin and asked what my skin care regimen was. During the facial, she played music and told me what she was going to do next. Overall, the experience was great but this is not a facial where they extract or do deep skin care it is more for just for outer cleansing and moisturizing and to show and use their skin care products.
However, I got sucked into buying some of their products that they used for the facial and after using it for a while I noticed that their products made me break out even more than I already do. I stopped using it and I have less breakouts.
I liked the facial but I would come back ever so often to just to moisturize and hydrate my face when its really dry. I only use their hair products.

One of my Christmas gifts was a groupon for a facial. My appointment was at 10am but we didn’t get started until 10:10, but all went well with the facial. After the facial cleansing I received an arm rub, foot massage and partial back massage. A very nice experience which all people should get at least once a year.

I’ve been to many Aveda salon and i love how lay back and nice it looks/​smells in the salon and i love their products.
Recently tried Blu since i always walk pass it when i go to the mall, figured i’ll give it a try, why not.
The store front display a lot of aveda product considering how small the salon is which is nice that you can stock up whatever you need i think they have most of the stuff in store.
I had a haircut, it was ok. Definitely not the best, i would say somewhere average or below average.
Salon area is actually really small like less than 10 people small.
Doesn’t look like the regular salon, it’s really bring and white. Normally the Aveda salon has this warmer lighting and feel to it. So basically this is like a mall-​salon but using Aveda products. Not like it’s the worse thing in the world but if you are looking for Aveda-​esque salon then you are not gonna like it.
The staffs were polite, which is why i gave it a 3 star.

I’ve gotten my hair cut here twice by Kim. She is a master stylist and can replicate any hairstyle picture you bring in. As talented as she is, I have to take away one star for witnessing her belittle her staff in front of clients. The clients are her priority for sure, but I could sense fear from the junior stylists and receptionist whenever they were in Kim’s presence. I don’t know what way to describe her but to say she is nice, but not warm.
I’d still come back because she does do great work and they usually have special promotions going on. Check their website or FB!

Like most of my fellow Unilocalers, I found this salon through Groupon. I paid $ 39.00 for a package that included a haircut, botanical treatment,& a $ 20.00 credit towards a 1 color hair-​dye process.
All in all, this was a great deal, but I now look like an old lady. I told my hair stylist (McKenize) that instead of doing the normal «V» shape in the back, if it would be possible to change it up and make it straight in the back. My hair is straight but it’s too blunt and thick. It looks terrible even when I curl it! I didn’t realize this until the day after and I wish I would’ve noticed it earlier, because then I would’ve asked her to layer it a bit more.
The good thing is, I do like my length and I still have more room to layer more hair out, but I’m not too happy with the way I turned out and will probably have to get this fixed in the next month or so. Boo.

Ask for Brittney! She takes care of you hair very carefully!
I got another voucher for my second visit here. A set of services included treatment, haircut and blow dry for $ 39 was such a great deal! (must use after 6 months from the previous service if you are not first-​timer)
Unlike the previous time, today I had the scalp treatment instead of the moisture/​smooth treatment. Brittney did a very good job massaging my head and I enjoyed the herbal and calming smell of the products. It was very relaxing till another girl (I think her name’s Carlie) gave me the hand massage. I sensed that she was a bit rushing (she massaged my left hand perfectly; but when she moved to my right side, she only massaged my right palm and not my fingers) and she was not concentrating (kept talking to other staffs during the hand massage and rinsing my hair). I don’t consider the hand massage part that serious because my main purposes were the haircut and blow dry; good thing that Brittney was back to do the rest of my hair services.
I must say Brittney handles very detail to perfection. I am quite demanding when someone’s cutting my bang: it must be in certain degree of volume/​curvature, layers, length and nice transition to the sides. Brittney listens to my requests and does exactly what I expected. When it gets to the blow dry part, I am always impressed of how patiently she blows dry every section of my hair to the desired style. Love my stylist! 5 STARS!

I was a walk-​in very close to the closing time, hoping to score a trim. Mario was literally driving to New York that night and had already packed up his equipment, yet he agreed to cut my hair in the last minute.
He was extremely nice, talented, and sweet. He taught me about my hair and some techniques to style it like a pro, which was definitely appreciated. I got a great cup of tea and an unexpected hand massage while my hair was being washed, which was amazing and gave me the biggest grin. I genuinely had a fantastic experience and would recommend coming here if you’re looking for an accommodating friendly team at a high-​end spa!

I arrived on time and was not kept waiting. Alva, my stylist, was very sweet and extremely thorough. She even showed me how to do a fish tail braid like hers.
Contrary to what other Unilocalers have said, you do not, I repeat DO NOT, have to schedule two different appointments for cut and highlights.
I used my whole Groupon during one appointment and there was no problem accommodating me because I already scheduled the time needed.
Definitely worth the purchase and would go again… and again!

Just had awesome facial service with Carlie. She is super friendly and nice. Can’t wait to go back soon…

Overall the service and vibe this salon gave me is something like a supercuts — distant, matter of fact, get in get out. There was no luxury and starting to feel like aveda probably just sell their name out to anyone who will pay.
I came with a $ 39 groupon voucher for condition and cut. I made an appointment with Mackenzie, who has a few good reviews here, so I felt comfortable even though she wasn’t one of the «master stylists .» However, at the last minute, the salon reassigned me to another stylist, without the curtesy of consulting me first. I only found out because their reservation system automatically sent me a new confirmation for the new stylist that I didn’t agree to. I looked her up in the reviews, and it seems like for the most part she had been more of an assistant up till this point, washing hair and coloring, but not cutting. I really needed a haircut though, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and did not reschedule my appointment.
When I showed up, I was rushed to my station. No one offered me a drink the entire time, and there was no hair survey some people had mentioned. My stylist quickly consulted me on what I wanted, and off to shampooing I go. I did get a hand massage from an Asian girl, but she did jt very lightly and it felt more like just someone putting lotion on for you. i guess everyone has different definition of what constitutes a massage.
Onto the cut. Like someone else had mentioned, my stylist is very quiet, which is fine I suppose since I’m not one for small talk anyway. With nothing else to distract me, I watched her cut and layer my hair. She seemed to be following a strict formula on how to layer, pulling pieces of hair up straight and cutting the parts that were longer. When she finished, my hair seemed ok. The layers are a little shorter than I like, but overall nothing disastrous.
When I washed my hair the next day and my hair went back to its natural state (I.e. not salon blow drier styled) I realized that the right side of my hair is shorter than the left. I’m not really sure whether to laugh lr cry. It kind of ridiculous. The least i can expect from a salon is for both sides of my hair to be the same… I also saw how the cuts were very choppy, like there was no vision of what the final product was going to look like, just focus on the individual cuts based a YouTube video of how to layer hair 101. Rather than smooth graduated layers, there’s a sudden drop, if you will, from the long part to the short part of my layers.
Luckily, since my hair is still on the longer side, the unevenness is not as noticeable if I curl the ends of my hair. Still, this is a pretty newbie move and not what I would expect from a higher end salon like this. When I put my hair up, one side has a too short piece that always falls because it can’t be tied up. The other side is fine. Right…
I’m sure there are some more experienced stylist here who will give you a better cut. But for the normal prices they charge, you can probably get a similar cut at a salon with better service.

Bought a deal from the Blu Salon Aveda website for a Haurcut and Botanical Treament for $ 39. Not bad. It’s an exclusive internet offer that you can find through the link that is posted on its’ Unilocal page.
I was Alva’s first customer of the day so she was ready to go when I got there. They ask you if you want water or iced tea and I wish I got the water. The iced tea has a really strong mint/​weird taste. Anyway, we started off by discussing what I wanted my haircut to be like. I like my hair long, so we only did a trim.
Alva washed my hair and then put in a hair treatment. As she let the hair treatment sit, she gave a quick hand massage. She rinsed out my hair and then was on to the cutting.
She trimmed my hair about an inch and a half max and thinned out my hair. It was a decent haircut. I’m usually pretty picky with my haircuts but I guess I was surprised. I’d come back for a haircut. Alva was really nice and it was good that she wasn’t the type to keep trying to carry on a conversation.
The whole process took about an hour and 10 minutes. Alva’s next customer came in while she was still cutting my hair. I did feel like she rushed through the end of the haircut which was unfortunate. The lady that helped check me out at the end didn’t seem too personable. Anyway, the whole experience wasn’t too bad. I was expecting a little bit more in terms of friendliness just because of the Aveda name, but I’d still come back.

I went to Blu Salon with a Groupon deal for $ 99 that included highlights, wash, deep conditioning treatment, and haircut.
I asked for a balayage, which was unavailable, but my hair specialist was able to mimic the same look with traditional foil. I asked for a deep red tint that can be seen in sunlight.
Then my hair was washed and deep conditioned. The shampoo was very fragrant, but the deep conditioning spray (also a strong scent) went all over my face, very unpleasant when inhaled :(
Britney cut my hair in layers and blow-​dried it to perfection! The best haircut I’ve had in years!
I was a little disappointed in the red at first (too bright and too everywhere), but after a few washes, I loved it!
I voiced my concern of the red highlights to the owner, Kim, and she was very caring and tried to accommodate my concerns immediately. Such great service!

I had to bump them down a star after a ridiculous experience yesterday. Not only did they somehow leave me off the schedule, but after paying $ 75 for a trim by a «master stylist», I had to return twice to have them fix chunks of hair that were very obviously uneven.
The owner was really nice about it and I’m sure it was unintentional, but no matter how much you sugar coat it, $ 75 and 4 hours for a botched trim is a joke. I didn’t ask for layers or anything complicated. It was just a trim.
You are better off saving a few bucks and going with the junior stylists or whatever she calls them.

I had my hair cut by Brittney and she was really nice and sweet. She did a really good job cutting my hair the way I wanted it to be cut. She also did a fabulous job styling it afterwards. So pretty!
Definitely worth the price.

This is the first place I’ve been to that did not offer extractions with their facial. I got the elemental facial with eye zone treatment… staff was very nice and organized (the guy recognized me by my VOICE over the phone a month ago WUUUUH??)
I actually felt bad for my facial girl as she worked in the TINIEST little closet of a room… she had to squeeze past the bed and push carts and whatnot just to get around… Anyway, she was very professional… I won’t say personable, but definitely professional – she always told me exactly what she was going to do and never slacked off or left me hanging. The massage was sliiiiightly weird as I was sitting at a weird angle on the bed, and the facial was pretty basic. The eye zone treatment was literally two slaps of serum and eye cream.
Honestly, you can get better facials elsewhere. I’m not saying my facial girl was bad – she was just doing her job and she was good at it… just saying the facial procedures itself might need some work. The products were pretty nice though and I ended up buying the tea for $ 17 (owch!) but it was very good. I don’t think I’ll be back since I can get better facials elsewhere, but it was an okay experience for me.

I purchased a deal from Groupon for three Elemental Facials.
I definitely appreciated the easy way to book appointments online.
Facial #1: My first visit was great, I really loved my facialist, Elvia. I really enjoyed the massage that is supposed to be part of the Elemental Facial. But it was odd that their website states «Includes hand, foot, and shoulder massage, hot stones, and facial pressure points.» since mymassage did not include the use of hot stones. But other than that I thought it was great.
Facial #2: So I went back in for my second facial this past week and had originally booked Elvia again but when I got there, another girl said that she would be doing my facial. Fine no big deal, but this time, not only did I not get any hot stones, but I also didn’t get the hand and foot massage that is part of the package.
Facial #3: OK, I went in for my last massage this week and again I had requested Elvia, but again I got another girl. She was fine, no foot massage, and no hot stones…
And in case any of you are interested in a deep cleansing facial, this is not it, they don’t do extractions and my face always felt super oily afterward.
