This is as much a review of the people of Wisconsin as it is of Soldier Square Parking. The star rating is purely for the parking lot. I was driving around downtown Appleton looking for a place to park. Without any change in my wallet, the cash only parking meters were not an option. I was delighted to finally stumble upon this three story parking structure. Imagine my surprise and frustration when I pull up the ramp and find it too is cash only, payment has to be made before you enter, and the attendant booth is unoccupied. To make matters worse, another car has pulled up the narrow ramp behind me with a lady driver busy on her cell phone. I roll down my window and yell to her that I don’t have cash and need to back out. A pedestrian, hearing this, walks over pulling out his wallet saying, «I’ll help you.» The lady in the car behind me hops out, waves him away with a «I got this,» and PAYSFORMYPARKING! Two complete strangers were willing and eager to help me out! The super nice people of Wisconsin get a very grateful 5 stars from me. The frustrating, pay-first, cash only, unmanned parking lot gets an annoyed 2.
