The Machine Shed Restaurants are a tribute to the American farmer. You can taste the great Midwest in every aged tender, juicy steak, thick cut pork chop and classic fried chicken. We still use real butter, whipped cream and peel our own potatoes.
History
Established in 1978.
In 1978 we opened our first Machine Shed on the outskirts of Davenport, IA. We had just 100 seats and we were all pretty young and green, but we started with a powerful commitment. That commitment was a simple five-word constitution: «Dedicated to the American Farmer». That dedication meant that we worked hard to have a restaurant that wasn’t just «farm themed» but would be something that farmers could be proud of.

Starting with one, 100-seat restaurant back in 1978, Heart of America Group has evolved into one of the Midwest’s premier design, construction, and management company with a 30 year history of developing award-winning properties across six Midwestern states. A few of the brands Heart of American Group developed and operate are the Machine Shed Restaurant, Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse, Wildwood Lodge, and Thunder Bay Grille. They are known for building unique properties that bring value to the consumer and to the community in which they build.
