Established in 1983.

M&W Painting Company was established in 1983 by Mike Gushee, and is the only mid-​coast painting company that has been in business for more than 25 years.

Mike founded the company on the virtues of quality workmanship and an honest day’s work. His belief was that customers value hard work and lasting finishes. He portrayed an understanding that customer satisfaction is fundamental to the company’s success by making sure the employees knew, «We’re not just painting a house. We’re putting our name on it.» This mentality has been at the heart of our long term survival and growth.

Today we retain Mike’s virtues, beliefs, and insight. We continue his commitment to quality workmanship and accurate estimates, a commitment that takes precedent over our bottom line.

I was born in 1954 at the time my parents were living in Washington, ME. Growing up I had 4 brothers and 1 sister. I didn’t come from money and I had to work for everything that I would own. I developed early on a strong work ethic and held jobs such as tending chicken coops, raking blueberries, and working the hay fields.

I started painting Willard Rollerson in 1972 and I loved it. To me painting houses was a source of serenity. In 1983 now married with two children I decided it was time to start my own painting company. I took what money I had saved up and invested it all in M&W Painting Company.

27 years later I am proud to say M&W has been in business longer than any other painting company that services the mid-​coast.
