History

Established in 2014.

Dr. David Draper founded Better Dental for one simple reason: to change the way the world feels about going to the dentist.

He was unsatisfied with the state of dental care that he observed in the places he worked. He was disappointed in the way many patients were treated, and he envisioned a Better Way of doing dental care.

So, Dr. Draper opened Better Dental in January of 2014 in Apex, North Carolina. Better Dental is the proof of this concept: that people want a dental experience that is genuine, refreshing, and enjoyable from beginning to end. Better Dental is obsessed with delivering the best customer service you’ve ever experienced at a dental office. After having suffered many bad dental experiences throughout his childhood, Dr. Draper initially became interested in dentistry as a career when he observed the dental treatment of an anxious family member. This dentist smiled abundantly and conveyed a genuine, compassionate interest in the patient, helping her feel tranquil and reassured. Beyond his undeniably good nature, the dentist also possessed skilled hands with a decidedly gentle touch. The procedure was finished quickly and comfortably and the patient was all smiles walking away. Inspired by this kind and gentle dentist, Dr. Draper knew it would be his mission to help people with dental anxiety by building trusting relationships and providing the utmost gentle care.

Dr. Draper graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery with an emphasize in Oral Surgery & Implantolgoy, and has been helping, healing, and comforting his patients ever since.

I am so impressed with this dental office. I just moved to the Raleigh area and after calling around to many offices, I went to Better Dental mainly because their prices were ½ of the dentists in Cary and Raleigh. Not only was the price affordable but the service was fantastic. The office is so smartly laid out and comfortable. For example no lights on the ceiling to blind you while you are in the chair. The office hours are fantastic too, opening at 7 am to go in before work.
I have serious dental anxiety but I feel good here. I don’t want too many people to know about this place because then I will never get it! :-)

I broke a crown last year and needed a dentist. I was new to town and didn’t know where to go. I found Better Dental and have been so glad that I did.
They were able to see me that day, and create a new permanent crown on the spot. Their staff is positive, friendly and very efficient. I was able to fill out all my forms online, and go in to the chair almost as soon as I arrived.
Dr. Draper was fantastic — he worked with me as we found that i have a low sensitivity to injected novocaine, and checked in constantly to make sure I was comfortable.
Since that visit, my whole family have become regular clients — he’s fitted my partner with invisaglign braces, and we’ve seen fantastic results!
Even Rose, who hates doctors offices usually, loves to visit Dr. David.
**PS I love that we can make appointments online — it does streamline my life to be able to make an appointment when ever I need to.

Stop it. What?!?
Look, I know it’s been awhile since I’ve seen a dentist, but Better Dental is clearly doing this whole dentistry thing… better.
I walked in for my appointment (which you can schedule and fill out any necessary forms for online) and was immediately greeted by a team of smiling hygienists and receptionists.
Gone was the seventies era faux forest wallpaper and droning, persistent elevator music of my childhood dentist’s lobby. Better Dental opts instead for a bright, modern seating area with upbeat current pop hits floating down from an impressive sound system. Their staff is incredibly friendly. Like «no one should be this friendly and happy at work,» kind of friendly. I wanted to make them all my friends immediately.
When my hygienist called me in and showed me to her cleaning station, I was so relieved to see a giant window providing tons of sunlight. No creepy overhead lamp here — they’ve replaced it with a screen offering various entertainment options and your dental xrays if you’re having them done. My cleaning was quick and painless, and I was so comfortable that even those pesky x-​ray bite plates couldn’t get me down.
And then there’s Dr. Draper himself. Clearly this guy is the root (see what I did there?) of Better Dental’s fresh, quirky, fun atmosphere. He walks into my cleaning station, guitar in hand, introduces himself, and then asks if he might play me a song. Why, yes, doc, of course you can sing me a song! He serenades we with a lovely ballad, I applaud, and then he launches right into discussing my x-​rays.
Awesome.
Congrats, Better Dental, on completely redefining what it is to «go to the dentist.» My visit wasn’t a task or a chore, it was an experience, and a fantastic one at that. I live in downtown Raleigh and would make this drive again without batting a lash –totally worth it. Can’t wait to see you all again!

This is the first time that we’re doing a review for medical/​dental services.
Bar-​none like any other dental experience you have had. We went in for our daughter’s lingual frenuloplasty (remove the frenulum which restricts movement of the tongue… AKA tongue tie). Dr. Draper is one of only a handful in NC that utilizes a fiber-​optic laser to cut. Offers more of a range and depth of the incision.
We were speechless with how seamless the procedure was. The whole prep time was a few minutes. Actual procedure was maybe 10 seconds. Immediately after, they gave us privacy to nurse the baby right in the same room on a very comfortable rocker. Immediate and significant results to the way the baby was able to nurse. She was able to extend her tongue significantly farther to latch more efficiently and therefore draw more milk.
Not only was the doctor most pleasant and knowledgeable but so was his staff. We immediately wanted to make appointments for our dental cleaning and exams on the spot.

Dr. David and his staff have created eye pleasing office and relaxing atmosphere. On this particular appointment I had to have a number of cavities/​fillings worked on. When I entered the office I was greeted by the receptionist (Adrienne I believe) like I was a well known friend. When they dropped me off at my dental cube I was met by the hygienist and we went over the work I would like to have done for the day. She then asked if I wanted to watch anything on the TV while we waited for the Dr. and while he did the work. I’ve been going through the archive of the show «The Office» on Netflix and stated that I would love to watch that. So the hygienist and I sat and watched The Office for a few minutes until Dr. David came in. He expressed his approval of the show choice, recited a couple lines right along with the scene we were watching and began working on my teeth. Periodically we’d take a break and watch a part of a scene and we would all laugh. It felt like I was getting my dental work done at a friends house while we were hanging out watching a show. It really is that enjoyable of an atmosphere. Upon leaving, Courtney offered a yummy chocolate chip cookie (which I declined this time since I couldn’t feel my face yet) along with a number of other snacks and drinks. I’m very happy with the work that was done and in a sort of odd way look forward to having more work done in the near future. I have moved my family to Better Dental due to my experience and the fact that they accept a number of dental insurances.
Summary: If you need dental care you really should look into Better Dental. They have an attention for detail, warm and inviting atmosphere and very skilled professionals ready to take care of you.

The doctors at Better Dental are SO nice! I’m TERRIFIED of the dentist! While visiting in town a family member told me they go there a lot, since I’ve been having major teeth sensitivity issues, and took me there. The whole process was quick and easy. Everyone was welcoming and the nurses went out of their way to make me feel at ease and relaxed. Wish I had one by me! Would highly recommend!

This is one of the nicest Dental offices I’ve been to in my life. The front desk guy, hygienist, and Dentist all provided one of the best experiences I’ve had at a Dentist to date.
The office is new and super clean and modern. They even have pandora and netflix for you to watch while you are in the chair.
I have some uneasiness going to the dentist (like most people). Better Dental gave me an incredibly gentle and pleasant visit which is a relief for me personally. I can’t recommend them enough!

I have never been so happy at the dentist as I was today. Seriously. In all my life, and I love going to the dentist.
First, scheduling was a breeze and the receptionist is so friendly I wanted to chat with him all day. They were really flexible with us as we had to call this morning letting them know we’d like to push our appointment back 30 minutes since my husband had a meeting that he HAD to be at. No problem, they said.
We arrived at 5 and were greeted with smiling faces. We were handed 2 iPads (that’s right… I said iPads) and filled out all of the necessary paperwork required at a first visit.
While we waited a couple of minutes I noticed a super clean office, bowls of mints or sugar free gum, a large TV, plants, comfy chairs and the most state of the art dentist office I’ve been in. We also noticed they accept bitcoin — whhhattt!?! How cool!
My hygienist walked us back to our rooms. I sat in the dentist chair (nothing super fancy about that, until…) and noticed a TV above with Netflix as well as Pandora and other super cool options to keep me entertained while I had my teeth cleaned. I opted to talk to the hygienist because she was cool. In the middle of my cleaning, Dr. Draper came in with his guitar (seriously, I am not kidding) and jammed out. He said he likes to give patients a nice surprise since going to the dentist can be kind of a drag. You can also request a pillow, blanket, or personal iPad to use while you’re there to keep you busy.
After the cleaning, we got the typical dentist gift bag, except it wasn’t at all typical. My husband was given an ENTIRE tube of toothpaste! We also got some fancy toothbrushes, floss and mouthwash.
This is the best part… as we were on the way out, we got WARM CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES! What dentist office gives cookies after a cleaning??? Obviously the best dentist in the world, that’s who!
Five stars for a fabulous experience, ultra friendly and professional staff, a fancy state of the art office and leaving with CLEAN teeth feeling SO good about the dentist!
I am so looking forward to January when I get to go back for my next cleaning (unless I show up there tomorrow just to hang, which is quite possible)!

Just wanted to say a huge «thank you» for my visit yesterday. I’d been nervous about seeing a dentist for a while, and everyone made me feel right at ease. Having been forced in with a cracked tooth, I knew I’d need a crown and you took such good care of me in one appointment! The whole experience, from watching a movie on Netflix to having Dr. Draper play his guitar and sing a few songs, was truly exceptional. Today, my tooth is pain free and I am one happy client! I’ll definitely be in for regular six month check-​ups from now on.
