Description

Specialties

Mother Lode Mercantile flaunts a mélange of western gifts & souvenirs, an old time Candy Shoppe and the best fudge west of the Mississippi. Explore bushels full of confections such as homemade chocolates, candy cigarettes, Necco wafers & licorice pipes, but be sure not to miss the Cactus Candies and Jellies.

The main attraction at the Mother Lode is the enticing selection of homemade fudge, which is made fresh onsite almost daily. The two most popular flavors are their very own Prickly Pear fudge — made from the fruit of the prickly pear cactus, and the Gold Nugget fudge which is made with real 23K gold! This is the only place in Arizona where you can get these flavors, so when you stop by… be sure to ask for a sample.

History

Established in 1980.

The store is located in Goldfield Ghost Town, at the base of the Superstition Mountains just east of Phoenix, Arizona. Goldfield is the site of one of the largest gold mining towns in Arizona during the 1890s & after the golden heydays ended, the town was reconstructed in an effort to keep the old mining history alive. Today they offer Mine Tours, Gold Panning, Horseback riding, Brothel tours, and a slew of western themed shops and attractions.

The original store was called Peterson’s Mercantile, and the header of the building still sports that name. When the town was reconstructed in the 1980s, this particular store was named the Miner’s Find Gift Shop and Ghost Town Candy Shoppe. It was sold in 2008 and renamed the Mother Lode Mercantile to properly reflect the extensiveness of products that they offer.

This is a great place to bring the entire family for a day out in the old west, and enjoy the infamous and incredible Apache Trail to make it a full day of fun and adventure.
