Kevco Refinishing

I have used the KevCo a couple times. I should say that results were different in both times. I think first time it was better since, I mentioned him, I will use his service again if the result is good. So, the tub, he glazed, still has great glaze on it. No bubbles and peels. So, second time, he did ok of a job. Since, he figured out, I won’t need his service again. So, all in all, when he tries and does his best its great. But, when he doesn’t he seems does short cuts. Anyway, it’s kind of a little gambling but, in my case it was good one.

I posted a review of Kevco about this time in 2012 after having my tub reglazed. I had been trying to get a call back from him for 3 months after leaving messages about problems with the job he had done. He had said to leave the room sealed for a few days to dry. When I finally went in I could see huge clumps in the glaze (like balls of hair in wet paint) in several places and the glazing was not all the way to the edge of the drain– there were gaps unfinished. He also left overspray on my tile and wall paint which I didn’t appreciate having to clean up. I am posting this update because not only did he do a poor job initially and refused to call me back to rectify the situation, the glaze is now peeling off. I have a circle about 3 inches across in the middle of the tub with NO GLAZE at all that is getting larger by the day. This guy is extremely unprofessional and does poor quality work. Stay away from Kevco!

In response to the owner who wrote me. It was not from any pipes that broke-​those were all intact. My plumber specifically said it was due to the broken dishwasher vent. The masking tape that you put was so tight it did break from the top, and I did call you in the beginning once or twice to let you know only because at first you had removed all the tape EXCEPT the one around the vent, so I was not sure if I could remove it yet and called you for that at first actually. I never received any call backs, so I gave up and removed it myself which it was tightly wound. When I removed the tape I discovered that it was broken on top and maybe the tape was to secure it. However, I thought it was just broken on top (piece was broken) and I agree it was my fault not to think it was broken on the bottom where the water would gush down-​I thought it was just some plastic that came off but it still worked. BTW, the stuff under my sink could not reach that high to hit the dishwasher vent’s bottom, so I know that did not break anything-​mainly soap bottles, and little bottles.
So true after the plumber discovered that it was from the vent, I did not call you after again since I never received a response before just asking if I could take off the tape, so I did not bother thinking time had passed and you would either not respond or say that it has been too long and what would you do to remedy the situation-​pay the repair bills, or for the new cabinet? I doubted that highly so I just said forget it-​lesson learned-​never redo my sink, just get a new one!
BTW, the cast iron sink is white on the outside but chipped it is grayish black under the painted surface-​meaning it was chipping quickly. I hired you, but was not sure that it would really work for long, and I thought it to be a temporary fix, but I figured it would last a little longer than it did! So the graying was not from a dirty sink which would be upsurd and actually insulting-​because I clean the sink everyday after the dishes are done-doesn’t everybody do that?!
Anyway, I am not THAT upset only because now I have an excuse for my husband to get a brand new sink and cabinets to go along with it! I LOVE my new kitchen! BUT if I had to live with it or did not have the money to get a new cabinet/​kitchen, etc then I would be sorely upset so that is a warning for others just in case. The broken dishwasher was just wound too tight with the masking tape and I remember he put a fan in that same spot on my sink so that may have broken it as well and the tape was covering the damage done and maybe that was why it was the only tape that was NOT taken off after the job was done-​suspicious! Basically sloppy work and being careless or too rough.

I used Kevco to refinish my bathtub last year and it turned out great so I decided to do my shower last week I couldn’t be happier with the job and his service he was very polite and on time thank you Kevco!!!

I had Kevco recoat a shower pan. Wow. If I had read the reviews, I might not have called him. So far so good, but it has only been 1 week. He’s not punctual, but then again it is hard to get anywhere on time with all the traffic in this area. I had priced other companies, but chose him because he advertised local and was a bit less expensive. The work looks great as of today. Hope it holds up and we don’t have any problems with it.

I am a property manager and Realtor and never refer anyone or any company unless I have used them more than a couple times. I have used Kevco for a few years now on my own home as well as on properties I manage. I find they do a fine job and are very reasonable. There are other companies out there that charge more but I have never seen the need to pay the higher price.

I used Kevco for a bathtub because I found a coupon in our local mailer. I was encouraged that he gave a 5 year warranty. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this company. He was punctual, pleasant and orderly. It’s the product I take issue with. Two days after it was painted I saw a small bubble in the tub and picked it. It created a bigger hole that was easy to scratch off. The finish was not sticking. I called him immediately to see if there was some small fix so the hole would not get bigger. I was not going to charge him or stop my check, I just wanted some advice. I called 3 times and he never called back. I even mentioned his 5 year warranty. Since we painted this very old tub to sell the house, I decided just not to use this bathroom. But my son moved back in with us so we had to use it. It is 4 months later and the shine is gone from the tub. I had another tub refinisher in who said that they could not fix it because the paint and primer used did not adhere to the tub so their product would actually make the finish peel off worse. They would have to charge me to take off the Kevco coat. Ugh! Oh well, lesson learned. I should have checked Unilocal first.

I had my tub and shower reglazed about 3 years ago by Kevin. He did a decent job and was friendly and timely enough. He did get paint on my hardwood floors and then told me it would come off without a problem, although it has not. About 6 months ago the finish started to bubble and has now come completely off most parts of the tub. This, despite my strict adherence to his cleaning instructions.
While I understand that reglazing a tub is really only putting off a remodel temporarily, you would expect it to last more than 2 ½ years. I also have to think that he must have taken some type of shortcut in the application process, otherwise who would ever get their tubs reglazed if they were so temporary?
