Description

Specialties

McBride Gallery was established in 1980 near Annapolis’ historic City Dock. In 1990 the gallery moved to larger quarters in one of the oldest buildings on upper Main Street. The land was originally owned by William Paca, a Maryland signer of the Declaration of Independence. The gallery has maintained the colonial character of the Georgian styled home with three of the original fireplaces.

History

Established in 1980.

Owner Cynthia McBride grew up on a small dairy and grain farm influenced by an artist mother and hard working enterprising father. She first opened two small galleries, one in Hull, MA (1972) and the other in Sewickely, PA (1974). When her family moved to Annapolis in 1976 she saw a beautiful town with few art galleries. She opened The Annapolis Marine Art Gallery on Dock Street in 1978 and sold it to open McBride Gallery on Main Street in 1980 with a more diverse range of subject and mediums. In 1990 the gallery moved to the top of Main Street (215) into larger space, a Georgian style colonial home with 7 rooms and 3 fireplaces on the first floor, an ideal space to show art in a home-like setting.

Cynthia M.

Business Owner

Growing up on a small family farm taught me the value of perseverance and hard work. Our home was unusual in that it was filled with art, a creative spirit, love of family, community and the Lord. The goal was to do everything to the best of our abilities with the highest of character in accomplishing it. Following college years at Bethel College in St Paul, MN and Drew University in Madison, NJ, work in various settings led to the opening of the first art gallery, called The Original Gallery in Hull, MA.

I enjoy working with artists and art collectors, planning and executing quality gallery shows to benefit both. I enjoy being active in the community in which I live and work to make it a better place for all.
