Historic Inns of Annapolis

This review is for the Treaty of Paris Restaurant and it posted there as well. The restaurant is part of the Historic Inns of Annapolis, and the Inn is connected to our problem, so we bosted it here so that anyone in a similar situation would be able to view it.
We held our wedding reception at the Historic Inns back in 2008 and it was very nice. The venue was great and I would recommend the Inns for hosting an event. At the time we were given a gift certificate for dinner at the Treaty of Paris Restaurant. Before we were able to use the gift certificate, we were transferred to the West Coast. We recently moved back to the Maryland area and were hoping to be able to use it on our upcoming anniversary, but the restaurant has said they will no longer honor it. I understand it is well outside a year from when it was issued, but given the circumstances it would have been really nice if they had chosen to honor it. When you take into consideration the amount we ended up spending on the reception and the number of our guests that ended up staying with them, it really is a shame. One star for customer service in a military town.

I stayed at the Maryland Inn this past week for a business meeting. The staff is very friendly and they do their best to engage you and share tips about the area. You have to check-​in first at the Governor Calvert House. After check-​in, valet drove me to my inn. After settling in my room, I received a call from the front desk to make sure everything was ok. I stayed in a single room, and it was just right for me. The meeting room was just right for less than 25 people. We enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the property. This is a great location for a small business meeting. Annapolis is fun for exploring and shopping. There are a lot of inclines and old brick sidewalks. Watch your step! I want to return with my family, but I have reservations about my mother getting around with her walker. Just a heads up, if you have ADA concerns. I will definitely visit again!

The staff from the parking valets to the desk clerks to housekeeping were pleasant & efficient. The Governor Calvert House is very nice but quite dark. The rooms had extremely comfortable beds, nice shower and plenty of towels. A small microwave would have been nice, but the small refrigerator was great.
One time I stayed in the historic room at the front of the hotel. Fantastic! Beautiful historic themed décor, lots of tall, vintage windows with a stunning view of the Maryland State House. It does not get better than this!
One complaint about the modern addition to the historic section: the rooms were so terribly dark, you could hardly see the electrical outlets, dark cords, and dark clothes. * Two or three more BRIGHT lights are absolutely necessary. The architect designed the windows in the modern addition to look out on their atrium, and sadly, the atrium has a black ceiling.
You literally cannot tell if it’s day or night, sunny or cloudy. Ladies, just try putting on makeup, creating a hairstyle or looking for something you’ve dropped on the floor. Demand they give you a couple of extra lamps!
The desk clerk (Caitlin) and house-​keeping gave us free breakfast since some one had forgotten to finish clearing the refrigerator and cleaning the bathroom. This was rectified quickly.

I am presently sitting on my comfy bed in the Robert Johnson house sipping complimentary Champagne. We checked in this afternoon, unfortunately our rooms weren’t ready and we had to wait twenty minutes, for this we received the champagne which honestly we didn’t mind waiting. Thanks Caitlyn! When we got to our room a nice guy Joey was working on our phone, which we didn’t need at all but I remembered we left something in our car in valet and he offered to get it, just like that off he goes. He returns only minutes later, soooo nice of you Joey. Love this place !

I will update this review and add more stars if the experience improves after our arrival this evening, but I had to get this out there before we even set foot in the building. I’m starting with two stars, so there’s room for this review to go either way, but obviously, there’s a much bigger hill to climb going forward.
My first impression is subpar. Apparently, their website doesn’t work correctly. I booked a suite for Valentine’s Day weekend Friday — Monday — first Valentines Day as newlyweds, mind you. Total cost was over $ 900. They called me a few hours later to advise me that they could not accommodate my request anymore, even though I had previously been confirmed via email and a telephone call with a reservationist. I passed up an opportunity for a room with a king-​size bed in order to book the suite, but they were not willing to honor the price for the king quoted earlier that morning at $ 121. I requested that they allow us to valet for free as a gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience, which again, was denied. The earlier quote of $ 121 was not honored and their remedy was that there was «nothing they could do» — which unfortunately, to a seasoned traveler, is a careless response that leads me to believe that guests are not their top priority. We have the next 3 days here at this place, so God help us if this is what we’re in store for… I’ll update as necessary — with both positive and negative feedback. More to come!

Your valet did execute an inspection and claim check upon check-​in of my vehicle and determined no damages (I signed off on this) but he did not provide a copy to me… not sure why your valet service refuses to now provide this claim check form, of a clean/​undamaged vehicle upon check-​in, with my insurance company. Very suspicious and unethical business practices!

We were very disappointed with our stay! Staff not helpful at all!!! We did not have heat in our room, temp in the 40’s, the boiler wasn’t turned on and the air was blowing out cold! Our bed sunk in causing knee and back pain and we could hear every step upstairs! Staff ignored our complaints! To top off our trip, the valet damaged our car. We noticed and pointed out the damages when they delivered the car, and they immediately said they were not responsible for damages!!! TOWN PARK never pays for damages, check out their FB page. The hotel did not take responsibility or offer a solution and now we have to pay for damages out of pocket! What a disaster! Stay somewhere else with free parking and with a staff that treats you like they care…

The Historic Inns of Annapolis is made up of well maintained properties, but what makes this place special is the service. The staff understands guests want to be treated well and do everything they can to meet the needs of those they serve. Well done.

We were encouraged to change our room to the Robert Johnson house because it had been recently «refreshed.» Not sure if this was better or worse. We ended up having to get new key cards twice and getting completely locked out of he building/​our rooms in the rain 3 times, once with several other guests. The card reader had some «glitches.» When we got to our room we had to have someone come up and fix the cable, which had a «call the cable co» message on the TV screen. Unfortunately this building doesn’t have a reception desk and is far from the valet. No one told us there was coffee downstairs in the AM until we found it the third day. Our room was pretty but extremely small. The bath tub had a gritty anti-​slip lining that made taking baths uncomfortable. Not the luxury we were hoping for in the heart of Annapolis.

At the Gov. Calvert House for a family wedding and highly impressed with staff, food, room, service and the location. Plan to come back to do more exploring as the location if fantastic, if a bit crowded. Valet parking is $ 24, but free in and out and the valets are excellent. VERY crowded around the area, so be patient. Front desk folks are wonderful, lemonade and water in the lobby area and the rooms were big enough — ours looked out over the reception area of the wedding, but the double pane windows muffled most of the noise. Great showers, clean and very professional staff. Wedding was fantastic — great dancing, lots of room and wonderful location. Wifi was a bit slow, but free in the rooms. Location is ideal for exploring the Naval Academy, shopping, waterfront jaunts and historical Annapolis. Park at Calvert St garage for free weekend parking overnight and walk up the six blocks.

Best element: convenient location. And that, apparently, is what you’re paying for because the rooms are outdated and tired in appearance, the beds are sagging, and «breakfast» is coffee and warmed frozen danish, not even a glass of juice for children.

Once again, great customer service wins the day. When initially planning our stay, we needed to ensure the room size we needed was available. Our request was quickly accommodated and the staff member Caitlin even remembered to follow up and ensured our needs were indeed met. All staff members were genuinely kind and helpful. We stayed in the Governor Calvert House and found it clean and comfortable. Free Wifi was a breeze to use and double double room was good size. Hotel is well located to local restaurants and across the street from the state house.
We lucked out and managed to find street parking nearby all three nights of our stay, but it was mere luck. Others may want to plan on using the public parking options a bit of a walk away or valet.
We had a lovely stay and will be glad to return.

We stayed here over a weekend and couldn’t have been happier with the place. Our room in the Robert Johnson building seemed like everything had recently been upgraded and was 100% brand new, clean, and working. The location is perfect right next to the historic main street and all the shops and restaurants. We will stay here again if we go back to Annapolis.

We stayed at the Maryland Inn. This was a beautiful, very quaint historical hotel! Staff were fabulous with a great valet service as you do have to check in at the Govenor Calvert House, but the system works! Loved the front porch as we visited with other hotel guests! We were also able to view the Fourth of July parade from this porch! We dined at the Treaty of Paris which is on location and delightful, great food/​service! Annapolis is a very fun City and everyone should visit at least once

My husband and I stayed at the Maryland Inn and besides the awesome location there was nothing else that we liked about our experience there. You had to travel to the basement to try and find someone to help you if you required assistance with anything and honestly the rooms were not the clean. The parking was horrible and the weekend we were there they were hosting a wedding. Our room was right above the reception hall and my husband and I literally had to scream at each to hear one another until around 11pm! They did not inform me there was wedding that weekend, I would have never booked a room! I gave it 2 stars because honestly the location couldn’t be better, right in the middle of town, close to all the restaurants and shops.

(First, whether you stay here or not: Walk in like you are, turn left at the front desk and get a tall glass of fresh lemonade. Delicious.)
Saddened by our experience here. Seemed nice. And the facilities aren’t bad considering how old they are (that’s the charm that draws people in). And if you require great location, in Annapolis I am not sure there is better.
The big downers were that valet parking is required. There are no other options. $ 24 per night. Plus tips. To big for my budget.
Also, half the rooms face inward, to an atrium. This atrium hosts weddings, and receptions. Receptions with loud, dj-​driven, bass-​bumping music late into the night hours. (THIS IS YOUR WARNING!) The hours that your four-​year-​old needs to be sleeping. AKA, not great for families.
Simple fixes that would help are:
Better breakfast options
Easy to use WiFi
Channel guide in room
Bible in room
More queen beds as opposed to full
…all fairly standard in today’s hotel stays.

Awful, I checked into the Maryland Inn, stayed 5 minutes, long enough to call front desk, provide my displeasure, and check into a hotel down the street. Smelled like smoke, peeling wallpaper, original carpet from the 18^th century. I never prepay, not sure why I did. Out $ 300.00, what an expensive lesson. Staff was not customer friendly.

Stayed at the Governor Calvert House, one of the oldest historic buildings in Annapolis that was home to two former Maryland governors. The location is prime, and you are within walking distance of Main Street and the water. The hotel is quiet. The rooms are 18^th Century quaint with modern amenities. They feel historic, but not old.

Is it possible to have a friendlier, more attentive staff than this hotel? Absolutely not. Everything was more than perfect from the moment we checked in. Note to prospective travelers: this hotel is divided up to 3 buildings in the area. We stayed at the Maryland House which is situated right at the top of Main Street. Great location, steps from restaurants, shopping and sights!

I couldn’t have asked for a better hotel experience. We traveled to Annapolis for our two year anniversary, we were staying in town for just one night and so i needed everything perfect. I called to arrange for a bottle of champagne in the room and mike the manager — a true mensch — upgraded us and went to such an effort to make sure the champagne was perfectly chilled when we arrived after a long car ride. We walked into our suite and the staff had made little towel swans, put flowers by the tub, and we had a lovely hand written note of congratulations waiting on the desk in the room. The staff seemed to genuinely care that we felt welcome and taken care of. Such a rarity these days. The room was very nice for the price and the service, from valets to receptionists was prompt, courteous and professional. If we’re ever back in Annapolis we will surely be back to this inn.
