Alexander’s of Annapolis

I will not return –not happy with the experience, the results, the follow up– or lack there of– very disappointing. I first contacted them in early November to follow up on hair extensions I had done in september. initially i was impressed, they appeared knowledgable and assured me the hair extensions they used were even better than the ones I had it– which were great. They told me $ 1,800 and then said they did not include $ 400 for removal of the ones i had. not sure why they all needed to be removed but I trusted them. The ones they used were not as good as they constantly shed and fell out. Four weeks later I went in for my «maintenance» visit– another $ 250 — and told them how disappointed i was. Rather than listening they debated with me but since it was the holiday and I knew I couldn’t find someone else 3 days before Xmas I continued. Two weeks later I had them all removed by another salon in the area. I called to talk with the owner. I was not loud, rude or problematic I simply ask the phone person to have the owner call me. She assured me he would, she asked for a brief summary which I gave her. I have never heard back. Not onlyy bad customer service clearly not a salon that wants to address an issue of concern for not only me but other clients. I would not go back and encourage others do to research before selecting this «high end» salon as the only thing I saw as high end was the price-​not worth it

I had my haircut by Jen, whom didn’t say a word the entire time I sat in her chair. The girl who washed my hair was so much friendlier and welcoming. I told Jen that I wanted layers and trim my bangs but I wanted to keep the length of my hair. Once she finished the cut, my hair still damp, she asked how I wanted my hair styled. She seemed so bothered working with me I told her I would let it air dry and I left. I finally styled my hair my own only to notice choppy layers and at lest 5 – 6 inches cut off. My pony tail is now just a stub and my hair is choppy mess. I do not recommend going here; even if you have a group on. I wish I would have read the reviews before purchasing mine.

Wont be back… went there to get partial highlights and came out disappointed… I had a groupon for it, the girl pointed out I am getting only 15 foils, the toner is extra and i will need it… She ended up missing a huge chunk infront, had to fix it, I hated the highlights, it made my hair look dirty or like a visited some cheap salon. So last week I went to salon in Millersville with another groupon, I told the girl, Stephanie that I hated what I had in my hair, and my deal was for partial highlights, too, but Stephanie did whatever she needed to do to fix it without saying that it will cost me more. I didnt have high hopes but now my hair looks amazing. For highlights I will only go to Christina Josephs Salon Studio

This is a great salon in Annapolis. I read through some of these reviews and was somewhat surprised at the negative comments. I am a guy so I don’t really know the woman side of the experience here. But I know that if you have an issue, please contact Alexander himself and he will make it right!
My partner and I get our hair styled here every 3 – 4 weeks. We love it. Alexander is very talented and his staff is great. The décor is beautiful as well as the Day spa side. David provides some of the best esthetician work in Annapolis too!
We have had facials, massages and pedicures there and they never disappoint. He also sells merchandise, such as hair dryers, shampoo, gift baskets and other items.
Alexander’s is also very generous to the community. They have donated gift baskets and cards at various charities in the area — which is really a nice touch if you ask me.

Scheduled a mini pedi. Granted a mini pedi doesn’t include all the perks of a standard pedi but they should call this a mini-​just pay to have your nails polished because that’s all she did — and she did a horrible job of that.

I went in for a Deva cut because I have unruly curly hair, I called and made an appointment and showed up only to have them tell me that I was supposed to have washed my hair and let it dry naturally and to not put it up, none of which the person who had made my appointment had told me. The haircut wasn’t bad, but the product they put in made it super sticky and crunchy which meant that I had to wash it again as soon as it got home. For the price they charge its not worth it.

I get my hair cut at Alexanders, and occasionally a massage there. Sandy is a great masseuse and all the haircuts I have gotten there have been great. I have curly hair and it can be a little challenging to make it professional and low maintenance.
It’s a comfortable atmosphere. I am probably more picky about my massage than my haircut.

Looking for Brian. Had a bad experience and will not go back. Anyone know where Brian went?

My Mom and I have been clients of Alexander’s for over 10 – 15 years. On my recent trip I had low-​lights (partial) and an express manicure done. When I checked out, they said that it would be $ 191. I thought that was a little high. On my drive home I had added up the cost in my head and confirmed with myself that they had overcharged me for the services. When I got home I called them and let them know they had overcharged me. They also had charged me for a $ 65 haircut that I didnt recieve. the receptionist at the salon had confirmed with the stylist that I was overcharged. She said they were going to credit back $ 25. When I asked why they weren’t crediting $ 65, she said that we needed to charge you for the style. I was not happy but at least i was getting something back.
My mom and I had been very good customers to Alexander’s over the years and I was very surprised that they actually charged me for a style since they overcharged me in the first place and I caught their mistake. Personally, I believe $ 160 is way too much to be charged for partial low-​lights and express manicure.
That may have been my last time getting anything done at Alexander’s. It’s pricey and they don’t seem to do much in order to keep long-​time clients.

I first went to the salon for a one hour massage and facial I had got through groupon. I thought the salon was nice and the people there were extremely nice as well. So I decided to make an appointment to get partial highlights. I was told partial highlights start from $ 90 and up. I thought that wasn’t too bad.
I had made an appointment with Brian, but was told the day before that he no longer works there, which didn’t bother me because I had never seen anybody from that salon. So they put me with Victoria, senior stylist. When I went in for the appointment I told her to make sure she gets my roots especially around my face. She told me no problem and not to worry. After being there for 4 hours already for only a partial highlight, she had not gotten the roots like I told her to focus on. All around my face was dark with lines showing that she didn’t even get close to the root. I told her I was no happy with it and she then gets attitude with me saying «we’ll if you want it perfect then I can do it again to make it perfect». Excuse me, if I’m paying alot of money for you to do my hair I should be happy. So, another 30 minutes of her trying to fix my hair still not happy. At this point I was tired of being there and still not happy with my hair. My hair is suppose to have blonde highlights, but its more like some blonde highlights with alot of orange streaks and patches of dark spots. I can’t believe how expensive and nice this place was, but how horrible she did with my hair.
This place is so over priced!!! They tried to charge me $ 50 to blow dry and straighten my hair, which they never told me it was more money to have this done. I’m sorry but charging to blow dry someone’s hair is rediculous!!! You have to have dry hair to see if the stylist did the color right or see if they cut it the way you wanted. Also, they charged me $ 20 for some deep conditioning treatment, which again I was never told it cost extra. They just put the treatment on without asking if I wanted it.
I would not recommend this place unless you want to spend an arm and a leg for horrible results.

I just got off the phone with Mr. Alexander and, unfortunately, I must report it was not a good encounter.
Long story short I went to his Salon yesterday morning to redeem a Living Social voucher for a haircut, single process color and blow-​dry. The lady I was scheduled to be with was no longer working there, so I was given to their «Senior Colorist» on staff. I discussed with her my hair issues, explaining that I was fire-​engine red last summer but now I am trying to return to blonde for my April wedding. I told her that several other salons had single-​processed a strawberry-​blonde color into my hair and that I could not afford the $ 120 highlights she wanted to give me. So she said she would take me back to my «base color.» None withstanding the rest of the conversation, I was under the impression that I would be walking out of his salon as some form of strawberry blonde. Halfway through my blow-​out I realized my hair was darkdarkdark BROWN and started to cry. They did nothing about it. As I was walking out the door crying, they did nothing about it.
Which leads me to my conversation with the owner of the salon. We went around in circles with the conversation and he was getting frustrated– I swear I never raised my voice or got obcinent. He then had the NERVE to say, «What do you *bleeping* want me to do??» When I very quietly asked him why he had the audacity to curse at me like that, he denied ever having cursed. Why would I make this up? I wasn’t demanding a refund, I was wanting to know TWO THINGS: 1) Why I misunderstood the colorist so much; and 2) Why on Earth would any professional establishment allow a client to walk out the door crying? That made no sense to me. He continued yelling at me so I just hung up the phone.
I feel like crap. This man is an elitist and a horrible human being. Please please please please avoid going to his salon. I have heard fantastic things about other salons in the area, so I am going to go to them and spend $ 300 to get my hair fixed when I can save up the money.

I came here on 7÷21÷11 to get a facial while my fiancé got a haircut. The place got great Unilocal reviews. I specifically went there because the reviews mentioned someone who was great with extractions, which are the main reason I get facials. My skin is prone to clogged pores.
Unfortunately that person wasn’t there. I can’t remember exactly, but I believe my person’s name began with an N. She totally ruined the experience for me.
She asked me to fill out a form and wait while she prepared the room. When I went in and pulled the blanket back, there were some long nasty looking hairs on the massage table she had just prepared for me. I hesitated, and she pulled them off and said «Oh you didn’t need to see that!».
I laid down and she asked me what I was looking for in a facial. I said I was mainly there for the extractions, and also the application of products to help keep my skin healthy. I told her I specifically came there because of the extraction reviews, as my pores were really clogged up.
From the outset, she was talkative. I hate that. I am trying to relax, not listen to someone talk. About 5 – 10 minutes into it, her cell phone rang. BIG NO NO! She let it ring, looked to see who it was, and muttered, «She works in this industry too, she should know better than to call while I’m working!». I couldn’t believe she would leave her cell phone on while giving a facial. Talk about a relaxation killer.
The facial was just okay — not stellar by any means, but decent. At some point she did 1 or 2 small, quick extractions. Luckily the talking died down about 25 minutes in. Then the next thing I know, she’s telling me it’s over and to take my time getting dressed!
I said «What about the extractions? Aren’t you going to do any?!»
She started stammering and said something like «Most people find that extractions hurt, and they don’t last anyway, give it a few days and your pores will be all clogged up again anyway, well, I just don’t do them because most people find them painful.»
Excuse me!!! I specifically told her at the outset that the main reason I was there was for extractions! In fact, I don’t remember since it’s been 6 months, but I believe I also made note of it on the form she had me fill out before my facial started. And regardless — aren’t extractions a major part of a facial? What she said didn’t even make sense. She clearly either forgot what I requested, or was just too lazy to do them, period.
The facial wasn’t cheap — about $ 100 — and I wasn’t about to let it go. I started telling her AGAIN that I had come specifically because I wanted extractions and didn’t find them painful, when she interrupted me and stammered something AGAIN about most people finding extractions painful and that she was going to go set up my shampoo (another reason I came here, because I love when places include a shampoo as part of a facial) — and hurried out of the room. I didn’t want to cause a scene because it was my fiancé’s birthday. I decided to enjoy my shampoo and move on.
Well, after getting dressed, she came back in and cheerfully announced that all the shampooers were busy, so I wouldn’t be getting one! Just like that!
I was stunned. What a fitting end to a very disappointing experience.
When I was paying, I politely said something about it not being fair that I didn’t get my shampoo when they were still charging full price for the facial. The person ringing me up said I could come back anytime to get a «free» shampoo. I asked if I could get a coupon or something in writing to indicate that, and you’d think I just asked for her firstborn («You want me to put it… IN WRITING?!»). After some back and forth, she finally wrote on back of one of their cards that I was due a free shampoo.
To top it off, the woman who did my facial was standing right there hovering over me when I paid, so I ended up tipping her 20 percent to avoid being uncomfortable. So I was out $ 120 for a so-​so facial that did not include the extractions I specifically asked for, and no shampoo either.
In the parking lot, my fiancé asked why I didn’t get my shampoo. I told him they told me all the shampooers were busy. He said, «They were not! I just got my haircut, and they had at least two shampooers who weren’t even working on anyone when I was back there! And anyway, even if they were busy, how long does it take to shampoo someone?» Indeed.
What a ripoff. I would never go back, not even for my «free» shampoo. What an expensive disappointment. :-(

Was here with a large (and very low key) group before an event, and despite the great work done by the stylists there, the openly rude scheduler/​receptionist made our day there absolutely uncomfortable. The unappreciative attitude of this person made the rest of the staff seem to feel rushed and uncomfortable too. Maybe just a bad /​off day but it was enough for me to not want to go back.

Tabatha’s Salon Takeover — Please Help! What was supposed to be a relaxing mother/​daughter spa day was completely derailed by (as best I can tell) an incompetent front desk staff and clueless management.
My mom had booked a spa day (90 minute massage, manicure and pedicure) for me as a Christmas present. I wanted to do the same for her so that we could share the experience & spend the day together. I called several days before Christmas to make her appointment and the man I talked to told me my services would have to be shortened to a 60 minute massage and «mini» mani/​pedi since we would be using the same technicians. Fine, no big deal.
However, when we arrived, they didn’t have my mom’s massage in their system, even though we had confirmed our appointments 3 days in advance. But they certainly had my massage in for 60 minutes and not the original 90. Apparently their computers had crashed on Christmas Eve, but that should not have affected our reservations which were made several days prior and were confirmed on Christmas Eve day.
The girl at the front desk kept apologizing, seemingly incapable of picking up on my frustration until I finally said the situation was unacceptable. Then it finally dawned on her to get a manager. The manager explained that they couldn’t accommodate my mom’s massage even if they called in another massage therapist because all the rooms were booked. They offered her a facial instead & said they’d only charge her for a mini mani/​pedi but give her a «regular» mani/​pedi. She ended up having to wait a solid 30 minutes from the time her mani/​pedi was done until the facial began. And the room was so cold & drafty — even after the nail technician turned the heat up — that my mom had to keep her coat on while her nails were drying. Given the mix-​up and the half-​hour wait, they should have made one of our mani/​pedis (or at least the manicure) complimentary.
Adding to the annoyance is Alexander’s system for notifying its staff when their clients arrive. The receptionist gets on the intercom — which can be heard loud & clear throughout the spa EVEN IN THE MASSAGE ROOM — and says, «Sally, Jennifer is here. Sally,» as if it was WalMart.
As for the treatments themselves, they were fine. I’ve definitely had better but the massage was good and my massage therapist was very knowledgable and worked out my most problematic knots. The manicure and pedicure were fine but the nail technician had trouble comprehending how to do a french manicure on my mom’s short nails even though she walked in there with one. The technicians and therapists were certainly nice people but certainly could use more training.
In other words, it was NOT A FABULOUS DAY at Alexandar’s Salon & Spa.

Merry Christmas to ME! I’m thrilled with my experience at Alexander’s. I had been lead to their website through fellow Unilocalers and found that not only did I want to get my mother a facial at Alexander’s for Christmas, but I wanted to give myself the gift of whiter teeth. They were running a special where their usual $ 199.00 price was down to $ 150.00. For those of you who have considered professional whitening, you know that it usually costs around $ 600.00, so either of those prices are more than reasonable. I did have to pay ahead when I made my appointment for this service, and without knowing what I was going to be getting, I was a little nervous.
I went in the day after Christmas in a snow storm. They appeared to have stayed open for me, which I very much appreciated because I live 3 hours away and would have been unable to return for quite some time.
They lead me right into the back room, explained the process (put in bleach trays, smile — or rather bare your teeth, bring your face so close to the blue light that you’re practically making out with it and stay still still still for longer than you think will be possible.)
The minutes passed like hours, but the music was spa-​ish and I kept my eyes on the prize. After 15 minutes, the technician came in and had me take out the tray, rinse and check the results. I was NOT impressed. She had warned me that I could pay an extra $ 50.00 for another 15 minutes if I felt I needed more time. I definitely did not see the results I was hoping for after 15 minutes. I wasn’t going to pay another $ 50.00 without knowing that it was worth it, but the technician saw my disappointment and graciously offered me the opportunity for «a little more time» free of charge.
The second round flew by and when I rinsed and revealed — WOWZA! It was a DRASTIC change and I’m just thrilled with it. I feel like smiling — or at least flashing my chompers at anyone I pass. Man oh man, are my whites pearly! I’m not sure how long this will last, but if I have to do it once a year, I will consider it mandatory maintenance.
They gave me a whitening pen to use when I want a little more flash, and I have strict instructions to avoid dark colored food and drink for 24 hours. So I raise my practically clear glass of champagne to Alexander’s and my super-​white fangs.

Unilocalers – you did not disappoint! With the humid temps as of late, I was feeling less than glamorous. Enter Alexander’s and it’s Alexander’s Makeover special. $ 99 covers a mini-​facial, haircut & style, and make-​up application.
I thought that the mini-​facial would be a quick 10 or 15 minute thing – not so! It was like a regular facial appointment but without the annoying extractions – total relaxation. I was very pleased with the haircut too… The stylist took me from BLAH to AAAH and took the time to listen to me. I was pleased with my make-​up too – nothing too heavy, and it looked polished and nice.
Everyone asked if I had special plans for the night – nope – just dinner with The Man and the kiddies at home – but I felt like a million bucks. For $ 99, go ahead and treat yourself! Alexander’s is a comfy, friendly little spot – not pretentious at all – and you’ll get expert service tailored to your needs.

I am very much so a fan and will probably be returning. I had Patty give me a prenatal massage which was lovely. I didn’t feel comfortable in the pillow that I could lay face down on (Gus started kicking up a storm), but I am also a week away from our due date, so maybe it would be better for someone who is at seven months pregnant.
Well moving on, she accommodated me in every way, she talked to me when appropriate and we had lovely conversation, and other times when I was relaxing it was perfect. She did some wonderful work in my upper back and neck. It was just very comfortable and enjoyable.
I also got a spa pedicure and that was lovely as well. Barbara took care of me and she was a sweetheart. She took her time and really allowed me to enjoy the spa water and the pampering. It was great!
The lay out of this place was a bit strange and the music was ok, but in the room where I got a pedicure it turned off along the way and that bothered me a bit.

I just love Valerie P. from Alexanders. She took her time with me, gave me a thorough consultation. So I got the got I wanted, actually better than the cut I wanted. Also, she did an amazing job coloring my hair back to health. Looks shiny, feels great. I feel better and its amazing what a good cut and color can do for you. Valerie is amazing. I think the salon is dated looking, and has a awkward layout, and the music annoying. I can look past all that just to have Valerie take care of my hair.

This speaks to Mr. David Frost and his Eyebrows and Facial services.
David Frost will give you the most amazing eyebrows in the world. It’s at times very time consuming but believe me, well worth it. He gives you exactly what YOU want not just a generic wax job like many people do. Want a high arch — he will give you one. What them a bit thinner — he will thin them out. The only thing he will not do is screw them up. Each eyebrow matches the other so you don’t have an awkward surprised look on your face like a botox job run amuck. Although I live in Virginia, I will take any excuse I can to drive out there to get my eyebrows done. Hands down one of the best «eyebrow» artists around!
As for his facials, they are very relaxing despite the numerous extractions he does. My face always looks flawless afterwards and does for weeks on end. I wish Annapolis was closer so that I could go more often. Included is your massage is a OMGazing neck and face massage. Your face will truly «pop» when you leave. Everyone in my family loves him. He is truly the best.
After your facial you will receive a complimentary wash and blow dry. I always get mine with the owner, Alexander himself. Quite possibly the blow out… EVER.
