5 stars for atmosphere alone because this place was so cool as hell. The pub is located in the basement of what looks like an old revolutionary home. I wouldn’t be surprised to look down and see dirt floors, but they were wood. Brick walls and lowish ceilings. Anyway — cold beer and deliciousssssss tomato soup. I also really, really thought the Thai Chili wings rocked. Meaty but had a crunch. I tasted some crab dip too and if was fab. The price during happy hour for 8 wings was $ 5 and the dip was also $ 5. Amazing deal. I would come back here in a heartbeat.

Good selection, nice happy hour. Portions are tiny though. Wish our server had told us how tiny the apps were so we could have ordered double right then and there. Wasn’t enough of one app to share among the 8 of us.

I think, this is the worst or even below worst restaurant in the world! I don’t know why this ranked high, I was expecting much more than I was seeing in the ranks. The food was absolutely awful and tasteless, I tried the steak and shrimps, I think my 2 year daughter can tell how awful it is! The service was normal, however, I guess that high tables and their seating areas might give them credit

This place is great! I went with my boyfriend to go see a free showing of the documentary Brewmore Baltimore about beer brewing in Baltimore. It was awesome that they were showing that in the first place, but the seating is all on this lovely patio, the service was perfect, the beer list was good, and they are dog friendly! Winnity win win! We did not order any food, but I intend to go back to try that sometime soon, too.

One of the oldest establishments so we stopped in for a beer. Our server; Tim has only been there for a month! Found that hard to believe. Perhaps it was the care and skill that blew me away. When he took our drink order my little guy ordered lemonade. My hubby said, «cool look, they make it fresh here.» I ordered an awesome pulled pork happy hour appetizer that was great! I dug right in, and forgot to get a pic for y’all, but trust me, at $ 5.00 it did not disappoint! When Tim, our server returned with our Childs 3rd lemonade, I told him, that was it for our little lemonadeaholic. I commented that I’ve never seen them made fresh and I must have missed it on the menu because I didn’t see it. He said, «no they aren’t on the menu, but I hope they were okay». I was like, «Dude, he drank 3, I’m going to assume they were amazing!» Place is 4.5, but Tim made the total experience a 5!

How often can you go to a place and have a beer with a ghost? I’ve been visiting this place regularly for Monday night trivia for about a year and a half now. During the summer, sitting outside under the trees is a delightful experience. The winter months are spent indoor, down below Reynolds Tavern, where the ghost of Mary Reynolds causes the lights to flicker from time to time. The food is good for pub food. The food menu isn’t big, but the burgers are delicious. Occasionally the meat isn’t temped right, but generally it’s close. The sweet potato fries are too sweet for my taste, so I stick with regular fries. But the main reason to come here(apart from hobnobbing with the dead) is the beer list. While the variety of craft brews one can get bottled is good, the draft menu changes with the seasons, and I’ve rarely been disappointed with the selection(there have been one or two stinkers, but two out of 50 isn’t bad). Other reviews on the service are mixed, and that’s because the quality of the service does vary depending on your server. However, I would say 9 out of 10 times the service is excellent, so concern over the quality of the service shouldn’t discourage anyone from visiting this place. The one downside, which applies to much of downtown Annapolis, is parking. The place doesn’t have a parking lot, and the availability of street side parking varies. I generally go towards the end of the day when the meters are off the clock, but sometimes getting a nearby parking spot is a challenge.

Thought we’d try a bit of High Tea but they weren’t serving yet so we had lunch at the pub! I was still able to get a pot of tea with my lunch. The crab cake sandwich and FGT were phenomenal! I had it with the 1747 fries which I highly recommend you try as long as you like garlic and rosemary. I’d come back here again. The only reason I gave it 4.5 stars is because we couldn’t get our«high tea».

Overall, 1747 was a disappointment. Poor customer service. Read on for details. My friend and I were staying in Annapolis for the weekend and decided to visit 1747. Contrary to the fact that our valid Pennsylvania drivers’ licenses got us into the bar, they were deemed not«valid enough» by Maryland alcohol purchasing standards. We were rudely dismissed by both bartenders when we asked for details. I was angered at how the bartenders handled the situation. Although it was virtually empty inside, the manager did not take the time to explain why we could not be served. We were only told that our Pennsylvania drivers’ licenses are«illegal.» Aside from the incredible incompetence that we were met with during the start of our night, we went on to several other bars in the area that were much more welcoming. McGarvey’s, Federal House, Armadillo’s, and Dock’s were much more worth it.

I was unfortunately sent to this bar as a part of a Pub Crawl/Tavern Tour during a recent visit to Annapolis from Pennsylvania. To preface, let me state that I am 23 years old, which for those of you keeping score at home, is above legal drinking age. My friend and I were both carded at the door, presented our driver’s licenses, and were allowed entrance by the bar’s bouncer. Due to poor organization on the part of the pub crawl, there was no one there to meet us, so we were chatting with the patrons and the bartender, who was originally very friendly. We decided to order a drink while waiting for our tour guide. When carded by the bartender, we were told that we could not be served. For anyone unfamiliar, PA licenses are vertical when issued before the driver’s 21st birthday. There is a bold red line that states«UNDER21UNTIL» and the date that the driver will turn 21. PA licenses are valid until they expire, x number of years after they are issued. You do NOT get issued a new horizontal license just because you are now of legal drinking age, which is why they do the math for you and clearly list your 21st birthday. The bartender said that is was policy not to serve anyone with a vertical license and rudely dismissed any further questions. The bouncer, who had previously looked and at been fine with my license, suddenly was also trying to tell me that it was invalid. We were happy to leave the bar, but were guided right back to it when we finally tracked down our tour guide. The guide, who was obviously familiar with the bartenders, went to speak with them for a couple of minutes, and then returned to tell us that our driver’s licenses were illegal, and that we should immediately get them changed. I understand that Maryland and Pennsylvania apparently have different policies when it comes to driver licenses. No problem. If you don’t want my money because my license is sideways, that is fine by me. But please do not take it upon yourself to tell me that my license with a clear expiration date is not a legal license. I’ve driven with it, I have flown with it, and I have been served at bars with it for years without issue. My tour guide tried to justify the bar’s odd behavior by telling me that the Maryland Beverage Control Board was four doors down and the bartenders just didn’t want to get in trouble. For serving people of legal drinking age. For the record, none of the other bars or restaurants we visited during our time in Maryland had any issue with our licenses. And again, confusion over the license is fine. Not serving me is fine. The rude attitude of the staff and the declaration that my driver’s license was«illegal» is what I take issue with. My license does in fact expire later this year. But it is safe to say my new horizontal license and I will not be returning to 1747.

Great happy hour atmosphere! My wife and I went here after work one day and the drink and food prices were great! They had a good craft beer selection and $ 5.00 burgers on Wednesdays. We loved that we could bring our dog along with us while sitting outside and enjoying the meal!

There are few times when u can walk in a pub and feel like you are at home. When you walk into 1747 you immediately feel like you are at a small hometown bar and could spend all day there. You immediately feel like a local and never feel like you need to leave! The gin gin mule from the blonde bartender is the best!!!

«Cozy» is the word I think I have seen in most of the other reviews and I would agree. We were there for a small happy hour party, and I would agree with others that the service is questionable, but the place is very charming, so it balances out.

Great atmosphere, probably one of my favorite bars in Annapolis. It is very cozy in the winter. They have a decent beer selection and the staff is very friendly. I have never had an issue with service like some people mentioned. Highly recommend.

Go to this place with my friends to enjoy a different atmosphere! The difference makes this place crowded. The pub has delicious food and great mixed drinks. The deserts are eye– catching and yummy too.

I absolutely LOVE the vibe of this place. The garden and music made a perfect setting after a day on the water. Why I, unfortunately, cannot leave a higher rating is the abysmal service provided by the wait staff. I went twice over the course of Memorial Day weekend. First with a group of 10 on Sunday, and then by my lonesome on Monday. Saturday I thought the service was good, our waiter gave us just the right amount of attention… at least the side of the table where the 20-something ladies were sitting. I hadn’t heard until after my second visit that the other side of the table had a hard time getting service. My mother and aunt ordered cosmos but got some other kind of mixed drinks. Some other folly occurred involving our food, and soon the manager was out helping our waiter. My real complaint comes from the second time I visited. It was incredibly slow in the garden. There was a table of two who were only ordering drinks, a family of four, and me at my own table. Anyone else was seated at the bar. Emily H was the server that day… and she was awful. Clearly bored, uninterested in providing even slightly friendly service, and while she was only managing three tables it was the WORST service I have ever received in a restaurant, EVER. She didn’t even see me sitting at my table for fifteen minutes. I had to nod to the hostess so that Emily could be alerted to my presence. Several other times I had to ask the hostess for water because Emily couldn’t be bothered to check on me. It was almost entertaining to watch Emily interact with the family a couple tables away from me. The look of disgust on her face when interacting with their little girl was tangible throughout the whole meal. She wasn’t interested in polite conversation until she brought them the check. At that point she put on a baby voice and asked the little girl her name and some other BS question, I suppose hoping to leave a favorable impression while the parents calculated how much tip to leave. I will return to 1747, but if Emily H is my server I’ll probably walk out. Also the hummus tasted like sawdust, though everything else I tried was good.

Great food and atmosphere, but don’t come here if you care at all about customer service. A group of 6 friends went here on a Saturday after some waterfront drinks. One of us had been here a couple years backed and loved the«secret garden» in the back. The food menu looked great and there were a ton of drink(cocktails, beer, and wine) options. Service started off rocky. Our server clearly wasn’t up for chatting which was fine by me. I don’t need to make small talk; I just ask for professionalism. When the server returned to our table early into our visit, however, she asked us how our race went.(We’d mentioned upon arrival that we’d participated in a run that morning.) When my friend responded, she walked away to another table mid sentence– no joke. It was pretty incredible but we just laughed it off. As the evening continued, the less than average service through both attitude and speed of service continued. At one point, we had waited so long for drinks that we got up and went to the outside bar. One of my friends who had just arrived and didn’t even know who our server was stated to the bartender that our waitress was missing so could we see the drink menu. Our server happened to be standing at the bar and spoke up that she was right there. I responded that we could get some information here and order back at our table assuming we now had her attention and not wanting to be rude(despite her track record so far). We inquired about a few different beers and tried those that we could. The bartender was very helpful and friendly. Two of my friends went ahead and ordered their drink at the bar, but I went back to the table to place my order with our server. She came by within a few minutes. When we later ordered food, it came in a timely manner and was good. I had the shrimp and grits. It was delicious but very small. That said, it was only $ 14 so I could have ordered more if I needed it. I did not like the shrimp and andouille pasta dish that my friend paid $ 19 for. The flavor and consistency of the sauce wasn’t good and it was overly spicy. I didn’t try anything else but overall we were pleased with our meals. When the check arrived, we noted that gratuity of 20% had been added in. We also noted that we did not feel the service we received warranted a 20% tip, but that 15% might be more appropriate.(As a side note, we had all agreed to leave at least a 25% tip to our previous server as service had been excellent.) When our server returned to pick up our credit cards, she came back a short time later letting us know that our total did not add up to the full bill amount. We explained that we were going to tip individually on our credit cards. She again expressed that the gratuity had already been added in so I said that gratuity was optional and that it did not state on the menu that gratuity would be automatically added in. She asked if there had been a problem and if she should get her manager and we agreed that that was probably a good idea. She returned with the manager a short while later and they both demanded to know if there had been a problem with service, so we did our best to respond in a constructive manner. One friend started by explaining that we felt it was up to us to determine the amount of gratuity that should be left and that service had been a little slow. The server blamed the kitchen even though our food had been timely and our concern was her attentiveness. After a bit more talk, I explained to both the manager and server that she«could have been a little nicer» and that I felt at 15% tip was more appropriate than a 20% tip. I also expressed that there was no warning that we would be charged a 20% gratuity automatically. The manager agreed that we could leave the amount of tip we felt was appropriate, was somewhat apologetic, but at the same time standing by his server saying he’d never experienced anything like this before. Then he left. The server stood by for another minute and then looked directly at me and said, «you’re a bitch». Not knowing what else to do, we all burst out laughing. I mean, I can be a demanding customer, but never in my life have I been called a bitch. I asked the table if they felt I should speak to the manager, and they unanimously agreed. I found the manager and she was standing right beside him. I let him know what had happened and then told her that of all people to call out, I had tried to do right by her and order my drink from the table even when she was taking so long. She told me that she didn’t want to argue with me and handed me back $ 5 of my tip. Nothing was accomplished other than a few more half hearted apologies from the manager who still clearly stood by his server, despite her admitting that she had called me a bitch. I’m not sure how much tip ended up being left as it was up to each individual to add to their credit cards, but I think it’s pretty safe to say that it was less than the 15% we had originally planned on leaving.

I would have given this place 4 stars except for the terrible customer service we received last time we were here. I used to visit 1747 Pub more frequently when it was Sly Fox but happened to meet a few friends here last weekend. 1747 offers indoor and outdoor seating. Their indoor section is a basement pub which used to be the old owner’s(Reynolds) kitchen back in the 1700’s. Pretty cool. Low ceilings, stone interior and fireplace. Very cozy on a cold or rainy day. Last weekend however, it was gorgeous outside so my husband and I decided to sit out in the garden area. It was lovely. Our food was ok — I got the Fried Green Tomatoes with corn salsa(good) and my hubs got some wings. He got a couple beers which he was happy with and I got a mixed drink which was, meh, ok. Our waiter was nice and helpful(didnt get his name unfortunately) They do get an extra star for being dog-friendly! We even brought our little Frenchie who enjoyed himself very much. Surprisingly it was not very crowded on this particular day, so when our friends arrived we pulled another table up next to ours so that we could all sit together. We were immediately stopped by a waitress who was extremely rude and said they would not allow the tables to be moved. So we ended up sitting apart, yelling across to each other to have a conversation… Ridiculous. And Terrible customer service. Overall, the atmosphere is wonderful(especially in the summer!) their food and drink prices are good during happy hour, and they let my little furball in, so I will definietly be returning!

I actually checked in here and uploaded the photos of Reynolds Tavern under the 1747 tab. They’re all a part of the same building and restaurant, except this is the pub and not the restaurant even though the pub does serve food. They offer extended happy hour from 3 – 7 daily with $ 5 wine, rail drinks, $ 4 imports, and $ 3 domestics. Note worthy — check out the massive fire place with quotes from Benjamin Franklin. One saying, «In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom in water there is bacteria.»

Formerly known as the Sly Fox, the basement of Reynold’s Tavern is now re-opened as the 1747 Pub with very little change to the décor or the menu, except for the elimination of chicken fingers(?) and the increased prices of several of their offerings. I had the Tavern Burger which featured Gouda cheese, guacamole and bacon on a brioche bun for $ 13. I substituted sweet potato fries for the standard. The burger was delicious, if a bit salty, and the combination of flavors melded together surprisingly well. The fries were ok, but not really worth the $ 1.50 extra. With the addition of a $ 2.25 soda, it was a $ 17 meal in a sparsely decorated, cold basement. Really not worth it to me, though the food was good. I’d just rather spend that on a meal with more pizzazz. They still have trivia on Monday nights, but now it’s run by the Final Score trivia syndicate. It was a fun game, where you assign values in several rounds with bar cash as prizes and a bowl tournament for consistent players. It started promptly at 7:30 and we were done by around 10.
